From this week's Private Eye:

"Tompson & Thompson are different in appearance; the difference is visible wherever they are portrayed.  In one frame of one Tintin book it becomes apparent which is which.  Go to it, anoraks..."

So what's the answer?

Rex Banner

I don't know if it counts as 'appearance' but I think it's one of them is left handed and one is right handed.

Geek mode off.

You're right about the left/right hand thing!http://www.drawger.com/robd/images/tintin.jpg">

I'm beginning to care too much about this!

Wikipedia says:

Although unrelated, the two clumsy detectives look like twins and can only be told apart by the shape of their moustaches.

johnnystress

and, according to Wikipedia, Thompson is the one without the twirls on the end of his moustache

which i also never noticed before

Proudhuff

so there are two differences, but which is which?

Thompson is right handed one and hasn't got a twirly moustache. In the centre panel he's lighting a cigar

...right?

TordelBack

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the right-handed Thomson always drawn as the taller of the two?  Never noticed the moustache thing, and am a bit dubious about it.

TordelBack

Well I never!  Now, how does the girl in dungarees fit into all this?

Proudhuff

Damn you!! another webpage with a timeportal where I've lost an hour.... or two
