An idea floated at the Glasgow Con, anyone fancy a meet-up in August in Edinburgh? there are a couple of other things on then in toon but we can just ignore them.
We could meet up before the Pat Mills talk at the book festival - teatime Saturday 23rd? as there will be various comic folk about then. The Oxford would be handy.
or a teatime/early evening on Saturday 9th?
or a Thursday evening? 7th or 14th?
Any takers? Any ideas? anyone GAF?
bump
before it sinks without trance :D
Get on a plane. I've seen return flights from Glasgow to Toronto for less than £500. :D
Stuff the return bit...
We have a large basement full of comics.
you are truely evil, promise no commonwealth games and I'm there!
Oh yes. There's barely a word of it in the media here. In fact, there's so little interest that I'm writing something about the international attitude to the games. Should be printed in a British newspaper next week.

Not enough ice hockey.
Theadjackers ahoy!!
shiverme timbers, I'm trying to organise a pishup in a brewery here, and failing... :-[
Maybe.
I'm an Emphatically Yess.
Also, let's all go see Trout.
Please make this happen. It's not funny anymore :'(
I would love to attend but I suspect that I would be the only one there.
Waitaminnit, I was going to try for this, Denise Mina & Hannah Berry were talking about this project the other day - and about the Edinburgh thing. So another maybe. Hold that thought...
I was in Edinburgh last Saturday - £20 for that?! - but alas will be in San Sebastian on the week in question. Never mind, week beer, weird chicken pakora and tourist prices suggest ma bawbees are better preserved anyway!
I work in Edinburgh, so if it was on a weeknight and walking distance from the office (that Calton Square building near Waverly station) I'd probably pop in for a couple of sodas.
There is a definite possibility that I might make this. TBC.
hmm, 200 miles is a bit of a tall order for a midweek night out for me I'm afraid. Looks like that's 'all' my conventioning done for the year.

oh yea of little faith....
This was fun. Until three pints in my boy was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg and I had to run for the train, which was ten minutes late.
Stil, on the plus side, it's only a badly twisted ankle - and he got to stay up late and watch Dr Who with his old dad to "help make me feel better".

Bloody hell, X. Sorry to hear that. Also: bloody kids.

phew, glad it wasn't his leg. You missed a great night, it got a bit messy later, Fungus MIA!
(Talk about bad luck Dr X - glad to hear the broken leg didn't materialise...)
You make me sound like your stereotypical Book Festival Casualty, I should quash that rumour now :)
I remember losing Tips at the train station, but am hazy enough to suspect that was my fault. Oops.
Most excellent day in Edinburgh, thanks all.
Told Pat Mills I was thrilled to meet him (no lie) and he stood up, beamed and shook my hand. Briefest of chats then shuffled onwards. Simple pleasures.
Glad you made it Fungus, Tips was worried you'd been eaten by the yeti of olde Haymarket tunnel.
yes Mrs Mills laddie was on good form even when i ambushed him on the pavement outside. The book talks were good but the bar chat better :D
Yeah - meeting Mister Mills was a genuine pleasure. I manajed to highjack him for about twenty minutes and he was utterly charming.
(And the next day, I got Kenny Baker to sign me an R2D2 autograph! Never imagined that I'd meet those two face to face when I was 14)
didn't you take some fotaes?
Anyone seen Lindsay?
I did. They are mostly rubbish and I don't have a photobucket account or whatever it is you need to get them up on t'internet.
I have a long train journey today so am looking forward to reading IDP 2043.

If any fotaes are okay send them to me and I'd do the necessary, we need proof for CF ;)
I'd be interested in you take on IDP let us know.
Proof....? :o
Well, Dr X had a medical emergency by this stage and Tips is taking the photo. I'm the one staying as far away from the scary lady as possible.

Can't remember that magic trick, how does she manage to keep that pink triangle floating in the air?
Reread IDW 2043 yesterday. It worked better for me on the second read but I still don't like the ending. Far too happy and convenient. All of the chapters have something fresh to offer but I especially like Cait's explosion at dinner party. Great bit of characterisation and emotional story telling.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, especially the Murphy and Morris chapters. Mills' chapter reminded me of Crisis - when he does political you are left in no doubt :)
