I used to love playing this on the Spectrum. Now there is going to be a Kickstarter project to bring it back for the PC and possibly other platforms.

Bah. All versions were inferior to the mighty BBC Micro original! Very nearly caused me to fail my O-levels, that did…

Cheers!

I find the kickstarter for this to be utterly baffling - a million and a quarter to get the thing kickstarted? Seriously, they could write a neat little ipad version for a fraction of a fraction of that, make a million and a quarter and then pour the money into a PC version.

OR, they could do the minecraft model - start small and expand. (Which, according to their website has now sold something like 8million at £16 each!)

For that kind of money they should be selling equity and giving shares.

The (vastly superior) Spectrum version did the same for me too Jim :)

I would love a new Elite game, it's amazing how those guys crammed a complete universe into less memory that a .Jpeg uses these days. I thought David Braben was supposed to have been working on Elite 4 for some years now (in between being a bit of a dick about second hand games)?

If you want to relive the oringal Elite experience, albeit with much improved graphics and tons of (optional) extra contact in the form of community mods, look no further than http://www.oolite.org/

I love it.

Yes, I was about to suggest that too Mark.   What exactly is wrong with Oolite?

My brother played this for hours... I on the other hand struggled to learnt to dock my ship... I've never been very good at computer games but this one burnt. It looked so bloody good but I was so rubbish at it.

Yeah, right up until you get a docking computer, it's hard work!

Yeah, right up until you get a docking computer, it's hard work!

There is no more horrible moment in gaming than when that precious Docking Computer gets blown up on some Tech Level 1 Anarchy like Riedquat, and you realise that in order to deliver those 40 tonnes of Computers you're going to have to remember how to dock the bloody ship yourself.

Being pish at Elite formed the intrinsic distrust of free markets and the arms industry that dwell within me to this day. Lousy rubber keyboard.

There is an iPad game that I play called Galaxy on Fire and very similar to Elite.

Can anyone remember Elite - Frontier? I used to play this on the Amiga 500, it was David Brabham's sequel to Elite. Also there are plenty of great online space trading games. Eve online is bloody awesome and addictive.

That was the one where you could land on multicoloured polygons planets, yeah?  I played that one for ages, but never seemed to get anywhere.

Once you have your docking computer try to get in the habit of docking manually from time to time just to stay in practice. If you follow the manual docking procedure correctly with a bit of practice there is (almost) no chance of screwing it up. Just don't get impatient and try to go in too fast...
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.

I never could dock the damn ship worth a damn back in the day. Any time I did it was clearly more blind luck than actual skill.

Ah, the days of wireframe graphics...

There is a free version of Frontier: Elite 2 with nice shiney open GL graphics here:-

http://tom.noflag.org.uk/glfrontier.html (http://tom.noflag.org.uk/glfrontier.html)

It's based on the source code of the Atari ST version mixed with an ST emulator so it is pretty much the original game rather than a remake. It certainly runs better than it did on the ST originally, Frontier was a slideshow on my old ST. The ST did have what is considered by many to be the definitive version of Elite though.

There is a remake of Elite out there that was based on the original code, reverse engineered to make a PC version. It is absolutely spot on but it got taken down after the rights holders got a bit pissy about it (it's out there though, just do a search for The New Kind). It was even ported to the Gameboy advance, I still have it running on an old Flash2Advance cart.

My brother was ace at this game but I always had to dock his ship for him until he got the docking computer.

Oh, and it was the C64 version that was the best! ;)
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.
: Mark Taylor 10 November, 2012, 10:46:27 AM
Manual docking in Oolite is easier than the original Elite due to the fact that every station has a navigational buoy lined up with its docking port. I only just realised/remembered that they didn't have these in the original Elite. Doh. (Having said that, manual docking in the original still was not really that difficult, just a bit tedious and long-winded).
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.
: Rog69 10 November, 2012, 06:46:47 PM
My docking technique was to do a close flypast of the station from behind and then centre the planet in my view, travel on for a little way before slamming the brakes on and flipping over to face the station. This should put you dead in line with the entrance. I would then fly up to it slowly and when I was pretty close to the entrance I would accelerate hard into it as it rotated into a horizontal position. It hardly ever failed  :D.

: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.
: ThryllSeekyr 12 November, 2012, 10:35:22 AM
Used to play this on the old Comodore 64, and my highest ranking score was Deadly. Played it up to getting the misson where I had to hunt for the Constrictor ship stolen from the Intergalactic Navy by space pirates and couldn't find any further missons.

My method for docking was the same, except I would fly at top speed upon apporoach after I flipped over.

Works every time :)

Glad they are rereleasing it.

My docking manouvre was to put 'the Blue Danube' on the record player (remember those kids?!?) and imitate that scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey.  On the rare occasions I crashed and burned I at least had some soothing classic music on to stop me smashing my Acorn Electron up with my chair.

Did someone mention Galaxy on Fire 2 on the iPad?  It's excellent - very free romaing like Elite, free markets, space pirates, different races, a fek load of ship types and even a story!  It has had a couple of expansions and to this day is the only iPad game that has hooked me for longer than a year.  Well worth a look!

I played the demo of Galaxy on Fire 2 on the ipad, very impressive for a tablet game.

They have released it for the PC now too, it's on Steam for £12.99. I'll probably pick it up in the winter sale.

It would be nice to see David Braben's version get a release. I burned much Midnight Oil on the C64 version. Never quite got to Elite status, but the one before it. Deadly was it? I kinda lost interest after a while, and then Mega Drives came out lol.

Speaking of Commodore 64 games, anyone remember Tau Ceti? I first saw the special edition on my friend's Amstrad (CPC664 I think, with a built in Disk Drive). The C64 version was more colourful etc but it didn't have the Libraries in the cities, where you could read up lots of info about the game world.
Basically you piloted a hover craft (a Skimmer) on a planet where you 'hopped' from city to city via a jump pad, and destroyed all of the robotic defences in each city. It was a very immersive game.

Mercenary was cool too. Damn, I might have to look into a C64 emulator again, I used to use one when my PC was XP based, I have loads of Roms, both tape and disk files.

I remember Tau Ceti, I had it on the Spectrum. I still have it in fact, I rescued my Speccy and 2 big boxes of games that my mum was going to throw out a couple of years ago and I remember seeing its distinctive triangular box.

I think I also still have Academy, the sequel to Tau Ceti.

Elite was before my time and I never really got deeply into the 4x genre myself. I was quite enthusiastic about Star Control 2 for a while but I gave it up in disgust when it springs upon you, three-quarters of the way into the adventure, "oh, by the way? I hope you were doing all the main plot bits in double-quick time because we're killing the galaxy in six game-months! What, you thought this game was about exploration? Hahah, sorry chum, the big star map was a red herring! Funny, eh? Better reload and start again, lots of extra playtime!"  >:(

As I said before I was ranked as deadly as well before I quit playing the game.

Do you remember any missons?

I think you have to complete some specific missons before attaining elite status, but I never got that far.

I played this game as well, though not as much as Elite!

I had the Acorn Electron version first which seemed to lack any missions. When I got the Atari ST version I beat the constrictor mission and the document transport mission (which involved you getting mobbed by thargoid destroyers all the time).

I also found the hex code editing screen that enabled you to change all sorts of values. One gave me a cargo bay full of refugees (enayone played this mission?) Never found out how to get them without cheating.

Ah yes cheat codes that rings a bell. (Braben and Bell lol). I remember doing missions but can't recall specific ones. I remember the random one that everyone gets, something to do with a Prince of some planet, and if you agree to the mission, you get totally over run with Tribble-like creatures, purring and crawling all over your screen readout. I think you had to jettison your cargo to get rid of them.

Nice some of you chaps remember Tau Ceti too :)

Correct re the missions - there were none.  It also lacked any suns in any system, rendering the fuel scoops a complete waste of cash, and making refuelling a nightmare.  the Electron version was very stripped down.  Also, it was completely balck and white, including the radar.  There weren't even any Thargoid Invaders!!!

As far as reloading, you didn't have to reload the entire game, only your last save.  The saves weren't very big files, so a minute or two of fiddling with the cassette deck and you'd be back into the action again.
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.
: Rog69 16 November, 2012, 06:58:46 PM
I think the lack of missions on some formats was down to memory limitations, If I remember correctly the BBCB version didn't have missions either and you only got military lasers if you had the floppy version of the game rather than it being on tape.

The two missions I remember was the one with the sun going supernova in a particular system and you had to take a hold full of refugees to safety and were rewarded with a load of gems. There was another mission where you had to destroy another ship that had a cloaking device, which you then got to equip afterwards.

I just remembered this! So I decided to google Elite - Dangerous and found this site here.

 The Elite: Dangerous Project! (http://elite.frontier.co.uk/)

It looks like they are still accepting backers and I might contribute. Though I wanted to find out if they take your money straight away. As I don't have all the money in my account that I want to contribute yet.

So I checked if this was on Kick-Starter as well.

 Elite: Dangerous  -  Kick-Starter! (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1461411552/elite-dangerous?ref=live)

I was disappointed that it was fully funded on Kick-Starter and I missed out!

So I checked the information back at the original website and sent them a E-mail asking them what is going on and I'm still waiting on their reply.

While I'm waiting, I found this on one of official pages

With the support of our fantastic community we have achieved the funds necessary to enter full development on Elite: Dangerous. Thank you to everyone that has helped us reach this stage!

Although the Kickstarter has ended we are still giving all of our fans the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of Elite: Dangerous, and get yourself a variety of rewards in the mean time. This includes copies of the game, access to the alpha and beta tests, and even the opportunity to get your name into the game as an NPC.

So, it looks as though it's still available for funding, even though the Kick-Starter closed.

I may still have a chance and you have a chance as well. I just want to know if they'll take my money now or later. I would prefer later!

I need to know.

I remember some cheat i used to do regarding docking and trading goods without having to fly to other systems which was set which other system/station you want to go to line up for docking and press warp just as you dock and hey presto you ended up docking in the next station. Correct me if im wrong its been 30years since i played it .

This is the answer I got, when I asked them what was going on with the funding for Elite - Dangerous!

Hi Michael, Thanks for your enquiry. You're indeed right that the Kickstarter has ended and development was funded, we're already well under way with development in fact! We are still accepting pledges through our website, however these will take the money from your account straight away so you may want to wait until you have the money available. You can still register and check out the available pledge tiers thoug, without backing just yet, at http://elite.frontier.co.uk/register Kind regards, Ashley

So, they would be taking my money right away. Pity :(

I sent them a reply asking them how many more weeks will the funding be open, as I told them I would be able to finance them with the amount I'm willing to part with in 4-6 weeks and they replied with......

Hi again Michael,

It shouldn't do, no. The only thing that may not be available around then might be some of the physical reward extras, such as T Shirts and art prints, as we want to lock those off after we send out the next round of deliverables. Copies of the game and other in-game rewards should still be available though.

Kind regards, Ashley

So, the next few weeks I'm going to be real frugal with my spending.

I really want this  :D

:o Looking at that right now. It does look impressive as well. Sorry, I haven't heard of this Chris Roberts  :-\ I may or may not back it as well as Elite - Dangerous. Though I remember saving my pocket up and looking through various computer game stores looking for Elite back 1986. A year after it's release. One store had the game in stock. After finally getting myself a copy of the game. I took it home and the rest has been several years of enjoyment for me

Chris Roberts is the guy behind the Wing Commander series so he has a pretty good pedigree when it comes to space games.

I'll probably end up getting both myself anyway, the space combat genre has been much neglected of late when it comes to AAA titles.

I quite like the look of the Mercenary or Bounty Hunter packages for Star Citizen, they are still available and sound like a pretty good deal for £25-£30, I might even add on the $5 basic pledge to get the hull skin switch.

The Return of the Cobra (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewC4ov9HXBw)

I just found out there were seven different Kick-Starters about Elite the famous award winning space trader/combat sim by David Braben and Ian Bell. Including it's fourth official sequel the upcoming and still in development Elite - Dangerous itself.

“Elite: Dangerous” is the latest installment of a long series of epic space games, starting with "Elite" - one of the most successful games of the 1980s.

Our galaxy.  Its an awe inspiring, beautiful, vast place; with billions of star systems, planets, moons and asteroid fields just waiting to be explored, and exploited. The triumverate superpowers of the Empire, Federation and Independents dominate their core system volumes and constantly skirmish to outmaneouver one another on their frontiers. Outside their influence, in the vast majority of the galaxy, anarchy reigns supreme and spectacular discoveries await the bold.

Its dog-eat-dog out there – you need to keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

Whether you want to trade for profit between systems, take part in multiplayer co-op mission alliances, free-for-all group battles and team raids to bring down planetary economies, even tip the balance of power in the galaxy (for your own advantage, of course..), or simply explore the wonders of the galaxy (and who knows what you’ll find out there..) is up to you.

Your second-to-second actions could have you taking the roles of trader, pirate, bounty hunter, leader, team player, opportunistic assassin, grand schemer, and more. You are at the centre of the action any time, any place and any way you choose – each action has a consequence, and influences the galaxy around you.

Starting with a few credits and a basic starship, carve your own path through the richest, largest gaming sandbox ever created, set against a backdrop of raw anarchy, galactic powerplays and intrigue.  Do whatever it takes to upgrade your ship’s hull, engines, weapons, defences, cargo hold; constantly improve your capabilities and influence on your journey towards the most coveted rank in the history of gaming - ‘Elite’.

Survivor -An Elite Dangerous - Gamebook

Armed with nothing more than a pencil, two dice and an eraser, do you have the skill and wits to thrive in an hostile galaxy?

ABOUT SURVIVOR

Survivor is a book with a difference... you are the protagonist. Whether the book has a successful- or premature- end will depend on the decisions that you take. Only you can decide which career to follow, which risks to take, and which enemies to fight.

Set in the 33rd century, in the Elite: Dangerous universe, Survivor immerses you in a galaxy where man has already gained a strong foothold. Hundreds of star systems have been colonised, interplanetary trade is flourishing, and space travel is common enough for spaceships to be affordable to the masses.

To people such as you.

Thrust into this universe, do you have what it takes to make a name for yourself?

Survivor - An Elite Dangerous - Gamebook (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/232063970/survivor-an-elite-dangerous-gamebook?ref=live)

As you can see... funding has ended for this Kick-Starter project. I have contacted the founder of this Kick-Starter for more information. To see wether this still being be funded on another website and wether the Survivor - An Elite Dangerous - Gamebook will ever be available to general public outside the Kick-starter.

The Cost of Exploration - An Elite Dangerous - World Book
After chancing across a missing persons notice for his former lover, playboy Chad Baxter sells up all he owns to head off in search.
Moving through life, we all take decisions that lead us along paths that take us to new opportunities, new people. But the other side to this is that we move away from others. In hindsight, we sometimes wonder if we did the right thing, and how things may have worked out if we had made a different choice to the one we did. This story follows an individual who chooses to go back, to search out someone missing.
The story is set in the future, some time after 3200 CE, in the world of the computer game Elite. However, it won't require an understanding of that game in order to be enjoyed. I have put up this project in order now to take advantage of an offer made by the game developers on their own Kickstarter project, but I intend to meet a proportion of the cost myself.

The Plot...
Commander Chad Baxter is a man at ease. Having spent his life on the border between the Empire and the Federation, he has had to be able to look after himself to survive. Born the son of a fisherman on the ice moon of New Peckham, he has pulled himself up by the bootstraps via trade in his early life, and then as a famous ice yacht racer (on a moon with fierce winds, this is not quite as sedate as it sounds!)
Through such adventures, Baxter has accumulated wealth that has allowed him to establish his own space station orbiting his home, a world of both tremendous scientific interest as well as a healthy trade in aquatic pets and exotic sea food. The taxes levied on the tourists and the traders that flock to New Peckham are sufficient to provide Baxter with a life in which his main challenge is to keep himself amused. However, all this changes when news reaches Baxter regarding an old flame, the explorer Xania Singh, who is reported missing, presumed dead.
Baxter is unable to get this piece of news out of his mind. He sells his freighters and his moon-yachts, pulls strings with a contact in the Imperial Military, and obtains a state of the art stealth ship capable of taking him into the deep unknown, to grapple with whatever adventure awaits. Baxter makes first contact with a new civilisation who give him a lead to find Singh, which takes him to the heart of another titanic struggle where he must win the trust of both sides in order to get closer to Singh.

The Cost of Exploration - An Elite Dangerous - World Book on Kick-Starter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/336512366/the-cost-of-exploration-an-elite-dangerous-world-b?ref=search)

As you can see... funding has ended for this Kick-Starter project and I haven't really found out a lot about this one. I will be asking the founder of this project very soon.

Out of the Darkness - An Elite Dangerous Book

A gripping, gritty and authentic science fiction book set in the "Elite" game universe. Not tacky, schlok SF, but a d*mn good story.

As you can see... funding has ended for this Kick-Starter project and I haven't really found out a lot about this one. I'ved just sent a message to the founder of this Kick-Starter about my own experiences with the orignal classic, docking with those trecherous rotating orbital space stations and his book. If  I can still obtain a copy outside of his Kick-Starter.

Mostly Harmless   -  An Elite Dangerous Novel

Set in the worlds of Elite, inspired by the wit of Douglas Adams; the tale of the least deadly assassin the galaxy has ever known.

Mostly Harmless   -  An Elite Dangerous Novel (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/katerussell/mostly-harmless-an-elite-dangerous-novel-working-t?ref=search)

As you can see... funding has ended for this Kick-Starter project and I haven't really found out a lot about this one. Now I just finished that particular Douglas Adams novel of the same name earlier this year and despite it's wit. It was a sad ending.

Now there's another one?

I asked the founder of this Kick-Starter about her choice for name to her novel when it had already been used and then realised it's also used in the Elite game. Being one up from Harmless and one down from Competant! Anyway, It does say that this is only a working title. I also asked about the possibility of obtaining her work when she's finished. Out-side of her Kick-Starter!

Well, that's seven Kick-Starters I missed and they were all about Elite! Though, atleast tow of the most interesting ones are still funding beyond Kick-Starter!

I found this  interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGE0_WSHGHc) with both David Braben (Elite - Dangerous and Chris Roberts (Star-Citizen) and some other guy asking them question, but where is Ian Bell? (Classic Elite.) This one is part four, I 'm still looking for the first three parts.

Here is another  video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5JYRyhxYhI) displaying a beautiful asteroid field in all it's detail and with some impressive laser fire. It's laser bolts instead of lazer beams. Which is a huge improvement over what's featured both in the Classic Elite and Oolite.  This is footage from the unfinished product and I hope they stick with it or improve it better still.

BTW, It's now exactly two weeks and two days until I can afford to back Elite - Dangerous at Commander Level. As I get payed next in two days. While I won't say how much exactly I'll be investing into this. I will back this one at this tier and get the add-ons later. After many weeks of saving.

As of a couple of hours ago.....

I have now officially submitted my pledge to Elite - Dangerous

I have also purchased some Add-Ons as well and they cost a extra $880.78 + $26.43 for Postage & Handling .....

My Extras

Digital Copy of "The Dark Wheel" Sequel - Qty: 1

Elite: Dangerous Soundtrack CD - Qty: 1

Elite: Dangerous Mug - Qty: 1

Though, I couldn't wait any longer going for the cheaper reward and saved about $500.

I may buy the other three concept-art prints tomorrow morning after I get payed again, but here is the first one I ordered.....

Now I will need to wait until April for the full Game. Until then, they may send me all the other physical rewards and then I will be able to download the game Alpha in December.

The one I got is in my price range and I couldn't afford the other one before December and that's when the Alpha Testing Phase for Elite - Dangerous starts.

Yes, I am one of the Alpha Testers. The developers have told us that we will be flying a starter ship with no enemies to bother us and they will add more stuff as the months progress until Beta and then Gamma Phase (Intial Game Release) in March next year.

I will make a video of the unboxing of my new joystick and upload it to You-Tube later.

BTW, a Elite - Founder or Founding Member of the Elite is person who has paid for the previlges of being treated like a Elite without actually working their way to the status of one. They are a very secretive and protected group.

Cost me just over $4000.00 AUD and I will be paying it off over the course of the next following year.
I have made a very short film of placing the boxes in the kitchen and I will upload it later and put the link for it up here. I will also film the unboxing and setting up of this new Uber-Computer and those links up here as well after they've both been uploaded. Until then, I'm sitting at my old computer (Copying and Pasting from a Online Keyboard because the physical keyboard is busted. The l key completely missing and the other keys don't work without a lot of effort. I had no idea how much I need to type l until I lost it.) doing this right now while the battery to my Handy-Cam recharges at the power-point in my other room.

Game ALPHA is very soon, within the month, within the next few days.....

Game Gamma is March next year.

I would like to know if anybody else is a Elite - Dangerous backer or is merely buying the game after it's release sometime next year.

I would like to start a in game group or guild of people just from this Community Forum and call us the RED-BRANCH-KNIGHTS. Based on Slaine of course. Just thought of it now while listening to Slough-Feg's "Cauldron of Blood" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd24iLq1vKc) on the X-Box 360 television.

So, if you find yourself playing Elite - Dangerous next year. Look around for a space-craft (I know not which yet?) piloted by Michael Hartwell and rally to my call.

I am installing the Elite Dangerous Game Alpha for the fifth or sixth time since this morning and I must be the last backer, the only back to have not sampled the game yet :(

The first time I had downloaded the installer early this morning I kept getting this
error (http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/xinput1_3-dll-not-found-missing-error.htm [b) every time I pressed the play button.

Right, now it's nearly eight pm and I have been re-installing the game since round about five pm after two false starts and it's nearly a inch and barely a centre-metre and about a tenth of the way from filling right up.

I will be making videos of Game Alpha plays and will keep you all posted with links to them.

When I finally start playing that is  :-\

Here are other Elite Dangerous Game Alpha videos from the other  Frontier-Forum (http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9172&page=2) backers.

Last Elite Dangerous Game Alpha (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QC3aHzVnlQ) trailer.

The Game Alpha has been released in a set of phases detailing various flight and combat scenarios.

The ship being used is modified Sidewinder that now has Witch/Hyper-Space capability. Not that it this is used in any of these scenarios as I think they are all set in just the one spot.

Well, I think they do.

 Game Alpha Footage One (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJZlla-3L6NEdJAvuBa0QOA)

 Game Alpha Footage Two (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrdKDQ9DVgLwhoR4s9aDiOA)

 Game Alpha Footage Three (http://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Elite%3A%20Dangerous/live)

 Game Alpha Footage Four (http://lv.twitch.tv/kerrashlanding)

This was the first video I saw and I was really impressed with the detail inside and outside the cockpit. Just look at it as it starts to smoke right before the pilot gets destroyed.

 Game Alpha Footage Five (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3nC726tL_Q)

 Game Alpha Footage Six (http://lv.twitch.tv/onevigor)

  Game Alpha Footage Seven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Zn3UxxQFvA)

 Game Alpha Footage Eight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sMHjE_f7lg)

I watched the first two of these videos next. Some great footage here. This game is going to be fantastic.

 Game Alpha Footage Nine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Zn3UxxQFvA&list=PLiQWmceaQmjxi1jzBlpF5QzJWna-Kl3-Y)

 Game Alpha Footage Ten (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrdKDQ9DVgLwhoR4s9aDiOA)

 Game Alpha Footage Eleven (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8Uvv1HdQ7s)

 Game Alpha Footage Twelve (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDHkzIJbc0Y)

 Game Alpha Footage Thirteen (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiQWmceaQmjxi1jzBlpF5QzJWna-Kl3-Y)

 Game Alpha Footage Fourteen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXLUfzP8I6Q)

 Game Alpha Footage Fifteen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGA7eECfm44)

 Game Alpha Footage Sixteen (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrdKDQ9DVgLwhoR4s9aDiOA)

 Game Alpha Footage Seventeen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwKxs8GoutM)

 Game Alpha Footage Eighteen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpxHZT22ByY&feature=youtu.be)

You have probably seen this happen a few times already. I'm not altogether sure, as I haven't watched every video here yet myself. Though you will see part of the cockpit canopy flying towards you as the pilot's space-ship is blown to bits.

 Game Alpha Footage Nineteen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db4q1H6s6DA)

 Game Alpha Footage Twenty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLNgk9IEm6I&feature=player_detailpage&hd=1)

You won't have to watch all of these videos as most of them are just different players doing the same phase/mission/scenario. I have just collected evry piece of footage I could find on the relevant thread.

You might also notice the retro machine like guns being used in a lot of them. Despite never overheating as much as the lasers, I believe they may still needed to be reloaded after a couple of rounds.

Wouldn't you know it, but my Elite Dangerous Game Alpha installation has timed out a few more times and it always restarts from zero >:(

I may be here all night and tomorrow morning  :o

Are you into the alpha yet TS? How is it?

I have been playing it since I successfully downloaded and installed the Game Alpha Phase 1.0 very early on last Saturday morning (A week earlier than today.) and I have made numerous videos. The half hour videos that I filmed with my external Handy-Cam took nearly three days to each upload. While the three-five-ten minute videos I made using Shadowplay ( I got it for free with my new Video card.) would take anything from a hour to a few to several hours or a day as I ran out of bandwidth.

Here the very first half hour videos I made.....there are four of them in four or them total on my first few hours recording and several more from recording after a couple of days. So far I have only uploaded two of these videos (Because they take such a long time to upload.) and in these videos you will see me introduce myself (My First Talky) and and show my new computer and then start playing the Elite Dangerous - Game Alpha - Phase 1.0 some what unsuccessfully once I try to complete the third mission. Sidewinder Face-Off. The first two missions are called Waste Disposal and First Kill. The next one called Recon Wing is where couldn't successfully beat it without getting used to the new controls on the dashboard. The next few missions Wolf-Pack Tactics, Predator & Prey, Supply Strike are not even on these videos and the last one of those took me a couple of days to accomplish. The last two Incursion which is the hardest where wave after wave of enemy ships are sent to attack you. The very last mission Faction is surprisingly easy if you know what not to do. You will see my other videos of these missions much later. But here are the first....

(Remember, the videos look better when watching if you click on the little Cog Wheel icon at the bottom of the screen and click on the highest highlighted number.

 Continuing Onwards (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZUZPW2nlJQ)

Here are the same missions played later and more successfully recorded using Shadowplay (It's records the games from inside the computer flawlessly.) These vidoes are only between one-to five to ten minutes in length. I had also made other videos simultaneous to these with my external Handy-Cam, but they are still waiting in line to be uploaded....

[img]http://elite.frontier.co.uk/media/walls/02_Ship_Sidewinder.jpg)

As you may have guessed your ship in this Game Alpha i s the Sidewinder Classic Bay Edition straight from Faulcon deLacy shipyards. In the original game they were small, fast highly manoeuvrable ships with very limited cargo space, with room for only one crew and no Witch/Hyper-Space capacity at all.

In Elite - Dangerous they have been modified for Witch/Hyper-Spacial self travel. Because they will be one of the starter ships in the game. In the Game Alpha so far you cannot yet use Witch/Hyper-Space.

[img]http://elite.frontier.co.uk/media/walls/14_Sidewinder.jpg)

In the cockpit/dashbord you will notice everything is nearly the same as before. You still have the same 2D - Radar/Scanner (As a Holographic-Display in the Middle.) that's does a very good impression of being in 3D (You will find out more about the how the original game was made  here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpWoF5uVgbA) (19:10) and how that famous Radar/Scanner was programmed and implemented with the rest of game code using what was left of the limited memory they had.)

Hugging this Radar/Scanner on the right hand side is your ship's forward/reverse (I will explain Reverse later.) velocity. It gauge starts from the bottom and will climb higher towards the top the further I push the Twin-Lever-Throttle forward. If push it all the way, the gauge will rise nearly 75% towards the top. There is Blue-Light and White-Line here. I'm not really sure about the Blue-Light, but the White-Line indicates the Sweet-Spot , the correct speed you must be at when chasing a particular ship and keeping them centred in your Foreward-Cross-Hairs. Although, it didn't really work so well for me. When you use Reverse, the gauge starts from the top and then climbs lower towards the bottom. (I will explain Reverse more later.)

Hugging the left hand side of the Radar/Scanner is the Cabin-Temperature-Gauge that starts from the bottom and rises higher, the warmer/hotter your cabin gets. This will naturally get higher the closer you fly towards the sun. Though, this is impossible to do in the Game Alpha (Explained above.) and when you shut your engine down completely (If I pull the Twin-Lever-Throttle right back.) and switch the ship to Silent-Running mode. (This mode completely lowers your Energy-Shield to nothing like it been completely depleted with weapons fire and will start the lengthy process of slowly recharging again when you switch off Silent-Running.) This effects your ship's Heat-Signature (I will explain this more later.) cooling it down, making it harder to find by Radar/Scanner and Guided-Missiles.  While your Cabin Temperature slowly rises higher as  your ship has closed all it's heat vents no longer releasing heat into space a round it. This will soon cause damage to your ship and it will soon self-explode if you leave Silent-Running on for too long. Only use in emergencies. It good for hiding from other ships while their is huge asteroid between them and you. It's have also found this good for stopping those Heat-Guided-Missiles from staying targeted on your ship. I have done this few times and found it works flawless and a few other times I couldn't get it to work for some reason and was still hit. I'm not sure if this featured is intended or a bug. As it works too well when it does work. But this can also be used against if other enemy ships know know your going to do this and expect you to drop your Energy-Shields completely when you switch to Silent-Running. So there is tough choice between Energy-Shields or being hit by Guided-Missile which could very well do the same thing. Once your Energy-Shields are down, you Hull can be hit directly and they will start taking damage shown as a %. So far in the Game-Alpha, the Hull can never be repaired. This real bad in the Incursion mission where there are more than one wave of enemy ships sent at you.

Elite Dangerous Alpha, using low heat emission and heat sinks (Not one of my own Videos!) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_hP7MV89s8)

There is 3D Holographic-Display of your own ship with it's own Energy-Shield and Hull status on the right hand side. On the left hand side is a 3D display of what ever ship or other object you have targeted. If it's a ship it will show it's Energy-Shield and Hull status and if it's anything else. It will only show it's hull status. So far, and unlike the original game, asteroids cannot be targeted and destroyed. They are extremely tough in this game and I think this was done for the sake of realism. Above your ship's holographic-display is the holographic screen showing all information happening within and around the ship. It tells you what your ship is doing and what has detected that the other targeted ship or object is doing. These are referred to as Contacts. When they appear, it will say Contact Gained and when they are destroyed, it will say Contact Destroyed. Above the holographic-display of the targeted ship/object is the holographic-display of the Communications screen. It will show you communications from the targeted ship. He seems to be talking directly to you and I assume it's the targeted ship that is the source of these communications.

There is Head-Look function that allows you to look around inside the cockpit. This can either be left and and right and down and up. If I look up, I will see through the see-through canopy of myo cockpit. The window is quite big here. To the let me see the holographic display of the Contacts Screen which is only non-interactive while in this version of the full Head-Look mode. If I go into a roll here I will just be able to make out the edge of actual BBC Computer Keyboard on this side.

It's my ship's actual keyboard panel (Based on the BBC Computer Design) and so far it' non-interactive. But it's there just to look at. If you look right you will see a holographic display of the Ship Subsystems & Fire-Arms Screen and if I go into a roll here you may catch a glimpse of what I have been told is the  Space Traders Flight Training Manual (http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/manual.htm) in a pigeon-hole underneath the screen. I could almost make out the writing on it's front cover if you squint.

Just like the other side, both of these are no-interactive and just for show. They're just Easter-Eggs.

There is a second version of the Head-Look function that only allows you to look and access the Holographic-Screens to left and right of you. The ones I just mentioned. So far I have only worked out what the left-hand screen does. With it you can target all contacts (Enemy ships, Allies, Navigation Beacons) and also target their ships's subsystems. Which will show you where to shoot at these when your facing the front again and have that ship targeted in your cross-hairs. You can only find the other Contact's subsystems when they are targeted and very close. This works really well when you have automatic laser targeting. (I will explain Fire-Arms more a little later.). This holographic screen will also tell you if and what of their subsystems are switched on .

This is how the  Head-Look (Also, not one of my own vidoes!) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJbzZTTTxOc) works using  TrackIR (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TrackIR-5-Optical-Head-Tracking-Tracker-Controller-NEW-/140370917149)

The right-hand Holographic screen displays your own ship's subsystems and firearms. From here, I think you can switch them on and off. Divert more of the ships Power-Core from the capacitors to them individually and also change the priority with which the ship will handle and get them back online if they have gone down. You can also designate which load-outs are for Primary (Right Hand-Side) and Secondary (Left Hand-Side) weapons. I think you can swap them around here. In the Game Alpha you have a choice of Lasers (Pulse,Burst,Beam, Rail) and Gatling guns to be fired from both or one side as your Primary weapon for some missions while you have a choice of (Using a Heat-Sink, (Once fired towards a targeted ship or incoming guided/unguided missile it may be fooled into thinking you not there because this will cool down your ships heat-signature (Explained Above.) This may cause guided missiles to target the ships nearby it. Usually the ship that fired it. Nasty stuff. Guided-Small Missiles, Unguided Small-Missiles, (Which will not always hit the ship they are fired at unless they are fired at close range. Their trajectory is nearly always curved and downwards which doesn't seem right in vacuum environment.) Sometimes you can have something like a Gatling-Gun on firing as Primary and Rail-Gun or Beam laser firing as Secondary. So far as I know this is all pre-chosen for the Game Alpha missions and I'm not sure whether you can actually change the load-outs yourself yet or else i just haven't figured out how to do this yet. I have messed around with it a bit and haven been able to cycle the Secondary weapon from Beam or Burst lasers to Heat-Sinks. But I am still pretty confused by how to fully utilise this holographic-screen.

I never been in position to use one these myself, but I have had some sort of wheel used for decoding Dwarven-Runes and Elven-Script. This came with my copy of  Pools of Radiance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pool_of_Radiance)

he package also included a translation decoder wheel.[4] After the title screen, a copy protection screen was displayed consisting of two pictures and a line. The player was required to use the decoder wheel to line up the pictures, then enter the word revealed on the decoder wheel. After three unsuccessful attempts, the game automatically shut down.

No, I haven't won the lottery! (As I protectively cover my crotch....) I just saved my free spending money real hard for two months and then when the time came for me to buy a new computer. Harvey Norman let me use/register with General Money to borrow a further $4000.00 AUD to buy it with. I will be spending most of next year paying that off.

As for backing Elite - Dangerous on  Kick-Starter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1461411552/elite-dangerous?play=1&ref=search). I didn't make to that Kick-Starter in time and had only bothered about it at the beginning of August this year and found out I could still pledge on their  Official-Website (http://elite.frontier.co.uk/). Since then, I saved real hard and finally successfully submitted my pledge halfway through next October. Don't worry, I got the Phase 1.0 and 1.1 of this Game-Alpha figured out and working just fine. I still have my original copy of the Spectrum version (the second best version of Elite ever released, the crown belonging to Elite+ on the Atari ST), and I still have my lenslok.

My Spectrum was consigned to running on our old black & white TV that had a big bubble screen which rendered the Lenslok almost unusable because of the way it distorted the image.

Mind you, as DRM schemes go it was still less obnoxious than Games for Windows Live.

So - I went and joined the premium beta...

The stuff on there at the mo is just some single player combat scenarios, but already I'm finding it tougher than the original Elite.  Heat magement?  Power management?  Stealth approaches?  Ouch!

I've cleared all but one level, probably 'cos I'm still trying to get my head around those things.

Looking forward to the multiplayer beta end of May though!

I am a bit of an Elite veteran and nice though the ST version is (along with the Archimedes version), I consider the GameBoy Advance enhanced version (Elite AGB) to be the best. It is very close in spirit to the original BBC version but has very finely tuned and accessible controls along with lots of expanded extras.

Was the GBA version a commercial release or homebrew? That one seems to have slipped me by.

I still have the hombrew GBA port of The New Kind on my flash cart, it's a pretty faithful remake based on the original code.

I have actaully prepared this, my personal update describing some of my gameplay related to Elite : Dangerous: Alpha : 3.4 nearly a month ago and then lost interest in completing it when some-things came up and temporarily lost interest. Anyway, mostly finished with a copy of somebody else's live stream of the most recent Alpha update 4.0.

I have meant to and have tried to post my own comments about the new multi-player and docking features (Not to mention the use of the Hyperdrive...) of the latest phase that has now been around for the last two months almost early last week. (But lost it all when my internet fumbled the page I was working on here....) So, I'm really not sure, but I guess most of you know about this already.

Myself...have only know about this for about a month  and almost two weeks, but since I have been having problems with my new computer....I have only just really got back into it after my father loned me his computer. I was even amazed that it I was able to get it working .....as I thought his computer wasn't quite up to spec.

Anyway, this latest one introduces multi-player combat where I have finally shot down my first bounty ...that was almost two days ago and then I saved the game......and then I found myself within the hangar of a landing pad of the orbital station and I had to launch. Anyway, I chose the option to open the ceiling and move my ship, a sidewinder up on top of the landing pad. While I thought to myself as well that choosing to launch before doing this would result my ship being released prematurely and hitting the hangar ceiling before it opened up to deposit my ship on the landing pad. I found out later after trying this, that it doesn't do this...as it only automatically releases your ship from it's mooring after it';s actually been moved along some rails and elevated upwards after the ceiling has opened. If you choose the other option....the same thing happens, but your ship is just left sitting there on the Landing pad being held by what ever holds it secured to the landing pad. I think that s odd how you have two option s with either just sitting on the landing pad or leaving it as soon as you ship is moved outside the hangar below it. I think it may be in case you  wanted to make a quick getaway...but I'm not sure why the people who run station would want to help you out with that.

Anyway, as I was still using my Saitek Cyborg F.L.Y. Pro-Flight-Stick to play this part of the Alpha when I first did this and when I did I had the Throttle pushed halfway forward so my ship flew into the side of one of the buildings and fixtures and immediately blew up.

At first, when I was playing this phase...I found that I would sometimes find myself flying around in a deeper space skirmish with some other computer or player controlled ships (Which is what.... I'm not so sure right now....) and sometimes I might be near a asteroid belt (The asteroids are orange or red, but only sometimes....) and at other times I might be defending the Impeccable..... some sort of large Federation Capital ship called a Dreadnought from some Pirates or Rebels flying Sidewinders and Cobra Mark Three while it's already being defended by some Vulture ships.....other Federation Fighters.

At first, I decided to try for the Capital ship...because it was barely moveing and about to go down anyway....well that's what I thought, but at this stage of the Alpha my ship cannot attack ships that appear green (How they appear on radar....) to it and can only go for ships that appear yellow, orange, red, colours.

I also flew my ship through center of it and park inside the box-like enclosure with it and parked my ship on the floor there...somewhat hap-hazardly.

Anyway... I have been having a lot of problems chasing...tracking....following enemy ships right...because I've been using the mouse for control as my joystick is currently unconnected and uninstalled. So, it's been a little tougher since I have re-installed this part of the Alpha on the computer my father let me use right now, but I find it actually works better the stick for other reasons.

Anyway, at first, I found that if my ship gets blown up in any of these scenarios, the game will continue with a other similar scenario or from inside the hanger of the orbital station. Like I, mentioned earlier already......

I joined the premium beta, but I don't think I get to try any multiplayer options until the end of the month.  Looking forward to it!

I've never really used a joystick for flight sims - I've been playing this with a mouse/keyboard combo.  Would you recommend getting one?  If so, which?
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.
: ThryllSeekyr 16 May, 2014, 05:46:32 PM
I'm still bloody waiting.......for this latest phase to down load....I would seem the download has restarted.

But it seems to be moving quicker this time, but still I will need to wait for this to happen all over again.....

Currently, I'm not using the Saitek Cyborg F.L.Y. PC Flight-Stick........it's neither connected nor been re-installed.

Right now, rather....when I was last playing this....I'm now using the Naga Hex Mouse along with my Black Widow Mechanical Keyboard (The Keys work mechanically, rather than electronically. They kind of respond better this way.....) and both the mouse and this keyboard glow with green light or back lighting and bear the symbol of the Triskele. So, this is probably the same mouse and keyboard that Slough Feg uses.

Otherwise, I would prefer to use peripherals sanctioned by the Earth Goddess.

Si Spurrier has written an Elite book apparently (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/05/19/multiplayer_elite_to_debut_on_may_30th).

Docking is Difficult????

That have made much easier....you now don't need to match rotation at all really...you just need to line-up....and enter....:)

Though, my ship got knocked into a spin by another ship entering quickly as I was lining it up to exit. I had to laugh to my self as this happened. I normally use boost to get my ship to stop spinning, but didn't want to risk it while in such a confined area. No real damage was done after it finally stopped spinning. Nothing except, my shields.

Last time, I left a station, I tried turning the ship so that it was vertical to the horizontal opening and it still didn't even touch the sides.....but now touching down on the landing pad more involved, but not as hard as it was at first.

Sometimes, I really screw it up and go off all the surrounding fixtures and amenities.

What I really like to do once I have left the launch pad and lined up with the exit. Is just boost before using the throttle. It's kind of like dropping the clutch. That's how it might appear anyway. Before, I downloaded the latest phase. This would take my Sidewinder or Cobra Mark Three right out side the entrance as fast as Diarrhea.

But my ship putters out just before reaching the exit. I think they nerfed it a bit. I do hope they restore it back to it's original intensity.

It's original vrrrooommmpph.......

While trying not to sound like lady describing how she uses a vibrator.

I also hope they fix Hyperspace and get rid of Super-Cruise or improve it and change the name.

It's never going to catch on.......and so is this thing they call  Indiction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiction)

It all sounds a bit too medieval to me. But I guess they thought that was amusing.

Anyway, this is when other ships either enter or otherwise cross path while using extra or inter system transit.

I have only ever survived the encounters where I didn't try to fight them off and just made for Hyper/SuperCruise exit. Yeah, hard to explain, but when Indiction occurs you are dumped out of fast lane (The best way I can describe it...) and I think you are left in regular space (But far from your destination....or point of origin!) with the other ships who caused it.

Other times.....it's some Federation ship wanting to scan you for contrabands or check how clean your legal status is. The last time it was huge Federation Frigate or a Anaconda and other times they were Federation Vultures.

That's kind of cool when they finish scanning and tell me I can go on my merry way. Like, I haven't played the game longer enough to do anything bad enough to warrant their unwanted attentions.

The problem here is that I think you need to start the process all over again.

I think.....that how it works for now.

Right now, I am having problems successfully completing a jump. I either get thrown out at the start or towards the end where I'm just nearing the exit point. It seems pretty random though and I can't really fathom how it can be done right. Except, that I think it wants me to go slowly once I'm in until I reach the exit point. Then I get this message Too Close or words to that effect. Just like in one of the Star-Wars films when Darth chokes one of his subordinates for hyperspace exiting too close to where they want to be or was that the other way round.

Then you are treated to having your interface being shaken as control is taken from you momentarily.

This is really bad and I hope it's just a place holder for something more impressive.

There is also this part where you are shown a nebulous white cloud that looks just flat and brief field of stars reminiscent of what you see in Star wars when the Millienium-Falcon jumps to light speed.

Hyperspace is more interesting as it gives you sequence where you are going through this colourful tunnel that makes it appear that your flying through several different nebulai, but it doesn't seem to be of the same standard with the rest of portion of the game I've seen so far and I hope that it's place holder as well.

I might suggest that if your ship is flying faster than light then no light should be reaching it. So it could be very dark and you might be subjected to sensory deprivation haullucinations or maybe you can just see the light infront of you since it's already there. Lol...I don't know.....:)

Then I thought about the use of the effect of using Slo-Mo from the Dredd film. It would be cool to see everything blurred  and slowed down because your really speeding faster than light. I know it sounds like I trying to copy from Dredd it's important to remember I'm only talking about the effect. I don't think they have a copyright on that.

I think that might be worth sharing over on the Frontier forums. Who infracted me for using the word Spastic to describe what happens to your ship when your using Super-Cruise. Yeah, it shakes like one has Cerebal-Palsey. Yeah, I don't think it's such bad word to use and I could say worse. I was describing something that my interface was doing and not calling anybody a name. I really don't like these
Forum moderator who also behave like they think their your nanny.

I 'm just really a pissed off nice guy and sometimes sticks foot in mouth when writing stuff here and there.

Some people can be overly sensitive, but I must make it clear that they have taken what I wrote out of context.

Cerebral-Palsey....Cerebral Palsey.....Cerebral-Palsey....I could make up a song where all the lyrics are just that word and spastic and I still seriously think it should be taken offensively by the many forum users
who suffer from that condition. I might even ask them if I change my forum name to Commander Cerebral-Palsey. Anyway, I think that forum moderator has just taken a bullet for me if he's going to call me out on that.

Where was I....

Ah yes....depending on how you come out of your jump. The first part....You should to keep going and you distination will be shown as a circle or ring you need to fly towards. I would try slower rather than faster, as I tend to get thrown out of it .......

I'll continue this later...I really need to rest now.......

I've been banned for sending a abusive message to a one of the Mods on Frontier-Forum.

Now, I'm convinced the world has gone crazy......
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.

Apparently using the word Spastic is not good etiquette on the Frontier Forum. I was using it to describe the shaking that occurs when you either use Super-Cruise or get thrown out of jump for flying to close to a invisable object. (Which I hope is Alpha/Beta glitch.) They say it's a vulgar way of describing a lot of the other supporter and other user on that forum and yet, I think it's just word that can be connected to that medical condition, but I really meant it to describe uncontrollable shaking. I'm kind of angry that I was given a infraction and then banned when I explained myself to the MOD in question. Some what abusively in their opinion. Which is why I've been banned until the first of next month. So far, unless they are going to punish me further! It does feel like they don't respect right to express myself as freely as others. Like I haven't been given the privilege despite my backing for the game. I think the offended party should get over themselves and not be so uptight. Must be bunch of Tory's. (You know, from Hellblazer)

I wouldn't be so outraged or shocked by this - you don't really need to look further than wiki to see what the fuss is about there ThryllSeekyr:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spastic#United_Kingdom

It's not like you've been banned for life but it is an offensive word and I'd just stop using it all together if I were you, here as well. Hollering "I didn't mean in it that way - what about freedom of speech?" doesn't quite cut it enough I'm afraid - and accusing the mods here publicly will win you less favours if they see it! Words change their meaning all the time but context is king and I don't think, in this context, it was appropriate to use a word that's come to be associated with a lot more than shaking uncontrollably. I'd say suck up the punishment and move forward. Beginning of next month is this Sunday after all!

I contacted them through the relevant link. The only one I could still use and sent them another tyrade, but ended it with a declaration that I will never apologise for this, but will be more careful with what words I use in future.

For hell's sake, If I were to be thrown in prison for this. I would be laughed back outside if the other inmates found out the reason.

It's rough outcome for you TS, and while in its pejorative sense it's a term I personally can't abide (much like my bete noir 'retard'), you probably were using it reasonably accurately as a metaphor for its correct clinical sense, some of the more visible symptoms of Cerebral Palsy. I hear variants of it everywhere, including respectable media : spa, spaz (in a Buffy I watched last night) etc., which while apparently used innocently are of exactly the same origin, and which always get my back up.  Like most people I know several individuals with CP, and it rankles to see their difficultuies reduced to a slur.

So I really wouldn't blame you for using the term, but equally I can't blame the Elite Mods for taking action against something that could be taken as gravely offensive by other users.  It's an unfortunate misunderstanding, that's all - but I certainly wouldn't think you should make it into any kind of grievance or crusade for reddress.  It's just one of those ever-shifting cross-cultural things.
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.
: ThryllSeekyr 27 May, 2014, 11:30:45 PM
I might have used the word Epileptic, it seems more legal and less vague than just saying Cerebral Palsy and perhaps just as offensive. I still think it's odd how the mod jumped on me for this. They might have waited until I used some or the same word to really offend someone on that forum.

You watched Buffy, you mean they have Buffy on where you live......They used to have it on the Sci-Fi channel four times day. I think it it's been almost year since it's been taken off.

I recall the episode in question  Band Candy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band_Candy). I think Armin/Quark calls Buffy a spaz after he and most of the other adults regressed to teenagers. Giles was partically interesting in this episode. Apparently he used his own native cockey slang when assuming his past life as teen thug. If I recall that correctly.
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.
: TordelBack 28 May, 2014, 08:40:41 AM
You do indeed recall correctly!  A brilliant episode, that.  Alas, Buffy isn't on any of the cheap channels at the mo, so we're working our way through the boxset, which at the close of Season 4 now has been a complete joy thus far - although I could live without the Angel crossovers.

It's always a fine line between using a rich language and avoiding causing unnecessary hurt, and one that is obscured by the rightly negative connotations of the term 'Politically Correct'.  I tend to agree that 'no-one has the right to never be offended', but equally I think it's better that we strive not to cause pain to others where there's no need.

Things like bluntness, satire and criticism have a crucial role in society and in life, as does broader humour, yet they all cause people distress, and you always need to weigh up the positive quality of the funny against the negative effects.

Harder still when terms have different meanings across continents and generations.

After seeing the incredible Occulus Rift demos of this the other day I tried out my nVidia 3D settings on it.  No joy unfortunately!  The interior cockpit and HUD looks beautiful, but everything outside in space is a complete mess.

I'm now very tempted to invest in a cheap Occulus Rift dev kit...

In 'Ultimate comics Spider-man: death of Spider-man prelude'

Spider-man: "Why do the other super heroes hate me?"

Tony Stark: "They don't hate you. They just think you're... a spaz."

Spider-man: "Captain America thinks I'm a spaz?"

Hugely jarring for a reader in the U.K. not so much for our US cousins it seems.
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.
: M.I.K. 29 May, 2014, 03:34:17 AM
Calling somebody a spaz in America isn't considered much different from calling someone an idiot, (which was itself originally a medical term referring to the mentally disabled), or a moron, (ditto).

It isn't seen as anything like as offensive over there as it is in the UK and that's how this almost happened, just four years ago...

Oh my god, this game is nuts!

It is sooo much harder than the original.  They've added a new level of complexity to the space stations, the starter ship may as well be made of tin foil, and dragging your arse from system to system trying to earn a living on commodities is hard graft!!

I've played it for about five hours straight, and in that time I have:
-tried to suss three solar economies
-got taken out by docking lasers for infringing some 'loitering at a landing pad' law
-been chased out of an anarchic system by a bunch of pirates (I limped away with 7% hull integrity!)
-sold stolen titanium (another player accidentally accidentally dumped their cargo, and I nipped in and ------scarfed it from right under his nose)
-helped some cops take out a wanted pilot
-suffered ship-wide problems as toxic waste barrels corroded my interior (I thought they might be worth a buck or two.  They weren't.)
-travelled through hyperspace unnecessarily, just to see the pretty lights ('Oh my god, it's full of stars!')
-stayed up WAAAY past my bedtime.

I had to stop playing it.  So bloody hard, but so bloody addictive. It's very familiar gameplay if you loved the original Elite, but it has been totally amped up!

So, your playing the Beta......I was wondering if this is going to be pretty close to how the full game is. I was thinking the full game download (For the Backers....) would be made available yesterday.

I'm still trying to download the client for the Launcher. I was doing this all day yesterday and was up until this early morning until I could open a small number of the multiple downloads in my download folder.

While on each one I kept getting the message that my downloads didn't come from a reliable source and it was showing me a number of small applications I could use to open the files.

This wasn't normal and I just shut that whole thing down after deleting all the downloads and went to bed for the rest of the day.

Now, here I am again doing the same things and hoping it turns out differently.

Did I mention I was having problems with a lot things...including my WIFI.

I may have to get it fixed again as well as the hard drive replaced.

I'm not happy about that.

I hope those that have already got in are enjoying the game and those who have Voice-Attack are enjoying the new features.

:D My-First-ED-Premium-BETA-Video-With-Bad-Ending (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-oISmvnJ_U)

Well, this is the first time (Or Second time....) I got Shadow-Play working again since I deleted my previous game videos (Every damn game video I ever made.) in fit of paranoid delusion while under the intoxicating effects of another internet web site. (Not this one!!!)

Since then, I had temporarily lost the use of Shadowplay and then after getting my computer sent back forth from the place where I got it o be repaired. I was no longer included with the software that was included with the computer.  It was all a part of what was supposed to come with the graphic card drivers auto-updater.

Now is the time, I have been bothered to download Shadow-Play which I have now found out is normally for free. it works after some fiddling around with it's set-up parameters .

This here is my first video since I got my hands on the Premium-BETA.

Showcasing some cool lens-flare radiating from the sun peeking behind the planet which is also peeking behind Azeban-City floating just in front of it.

As always I accelerate my Side-Winder with everything it has towards the Coriolus station. I look all around me from right, then up and then left before returning my view forward using the Head-Look function. Seconds later....as I am able to line up almost squarely with it as I request permission to dock and be allocated a landing pad.

It all goes smoothly, if a little slower than usual. As I line up completely and enter touching the boost button to get there faster as the doorway passes around my ship. I extend my ship's landing-gear with a mere touch of a button until I am about to touch down on the pad. Then quickly decelerate and near-drift towards the interior walls while it rolls inverted around me like my Side-Winder is really a hamster with invisible legs inside one of those wheels. My ship's angle is ever so slightly pointed towards the back where that prominent spire is pointed back towards the entrance, but not even reaching close to half way there. I suspect this is the housing for who ever runs the Parking-Authority or Azeban-City in it's entirety itself.

After spotting two other landing-pads that have been lit up waiting for other ships to take them. I spot my own and line up...squaring off with it as it sways either side of cockpit canopy in smaller arcs before it near centre and I slow down my ship even more as I'm almost on top.

Shall I swoop in or drop right down?

I remember I doing one of these with the blind anticipation of having the landing couples meeting grabbing my ship's under-parts without much more hassle.

When I hear a alarm go off.

I read something my coms warn me about something involving a Parking-Infraction for Illegally-Loitering-On-Pad not given to my ship.
As I was half expecting to land without too much trouble about a few seconds ago. When I was almost falling into that slumber called day-dreaming about what would be my first purchase on the inter-planetary market after lowered into the hangar.

Bloody-Infractions!!!!!

Now I'm having feelings of deja-vu. (I do hope, I quoted Monty-Python correctly?)

I seem to be having problems with my life-style. ( I do hope, I quoted Arthur Dent correctly?)

The cold detached, almost metallic sounding female voice of my ship's computer tells me I'm...Under...Attack As laser beams start to poke at my Side-Winder from all angles like many red-sticks that look like sticks of solid-neon. Now she's ominously intones Damage...Critical... over and over again while I am fully awake again as I immediately hit the directional-thrusters bringing my space-craft straight upwards, but it's too late as the voice of my ship's final warning multiple times Eject...Eject...Eject is repeated before my beautiful ship is blasted into twisted fragments of metal warped by the extreme heat rays. Which collide with the fixtures surrounding my former landing-pad.

As I have watch this scene many times before in numerous ways. I wonder if they will included building, structures, that can take visable damage from. Possible destruction and many credits worth need to sent to fix them as maintenance bots are called out clean, replace and patch everything up.

It almost sound dumb to shoot at anybody within the confines of the station if the other ships and rest of the station's interior is going to cope some super-heated metal debris flying into it.

I would take some advice I offered earlier as a joke. That you let offenders land on their intended landing-pad and then have lower it itself, and not into the hangar, but let keep going down through secret passage that that ejects the ship outside....

It that is possible given the station's anatomy.....;)

Then it would be safe to shoot at.

Just a bit of advice

Did I mention, the insanely long loading times before and especially after my unfortunate escapade. Are they really essential?

Here's a television show I have watching nearly every week since nearly ten years ago....

 Good-Game (http://www.abc.net.au/tv/goodgame/)

They finally featured some Elite-Dangerous content showing David Braben talking about the game.

Nothing really new here, except that the Beta has now been updated and they some more Star -Systems, the Orbis Space-Station and a new ship called a Hauler.

I'm installing it right now.

Although, I hadn't really gotten far in the game yet.

Concerning the Good-Game video, you can scroll down to where it says E3 Special - Part 3 and you'll have to sit through stuff about a new Battle-Field game, a new Lord of the Rings game,  a new CIV game that space-age and then it's Elite-Dangerous which comes last or you can watch the whole show which goes fro nearly a hour.

Incidently, ever since, I found the postal address of the co-host whole doesn't appear in this episode. I've been sending them some stuff via Ebay and some stuff via the Frontier Develpoments ONline store.

I go them the coffee mugs. Should be enough to go around with the other presenters. I couldn't buy for the whole crew, as I just couldn't afford that much right now. Its' my way of showing my appreciation. As I kind of feel like they're old friends after watching them on television for so long.

New things I've noticed in this phase of the  BETA..... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ex2nGIvbiVI)

Three new star systems.....I've just started playing this and I've only noticed two.....Aulin with the planet Nirvana, Nirvana-Enterprises ( Smell's like Teen-Spirit. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg)) , LHS 3006 (I never visIted the place, thinking it was the other system that sounds a lot like it!) and Styx.......I also noticed the status indicator for my Landing-Gear and Fuel-Scoop. Great work there, but I would I don't think the L.G. has a verbal audio cue from my ship's computer when I use it. There is no visable or audible cues for the Ship's head-lights being toggled (Except, when you are close to another object and facing it.) and mine displays the word ASSIST (Up the top right, but to the left of my Info-Feed-Holo.) next to where F. A. is clearly switched off. My Ship's computer will now say in small red writing (Just above my Radar-Display!) the words Mass-Locked when ever I boost too close to or inside the floating space-stations. (Well, I think that is correct.)  As well, being getting the words NAVI, PROX appearing (Up the top left side of screen to the right of my Com-Feed-holo. Yet, I still can't see the difference between the meanings of both warnings.) I now get the words Slow-Down (If I throttle too close to another planetary body or a sun. (Appearing in the same place where the words Mass-Locked appears.) Yet, I think the word GRAVITY replacing either one of those two other words if I'm too close to planet when trying to flying past it another point in one of it's orbits. (On the other of it most of the time!) This time, my ship's-computer displays the message in the I.F.H. that it's Dropping me from the jump, because I got to close.

There is also, another holo-indicator that says Escape-Vector in bright blue in the dead-centre of my view screen whenever I'm trying re-enter my jump after a Interdiction. I'm not really sure if this is suppose to happen or even if I have recalled it the right way. Apart from the new Hauler ship )Which, by what I can see of it in this here video, looks a lot like a very squat version of American-Space-Shuttle (After having another look at it ...maybe not!) and because Zorgon-Peterson (One of the known Space-ship manufacturers in this game. The other two are Saud-Krueger and Falcon-Delacy (Who designed and built the Sidewinder. I'm currently flying. As well as the Cobra-Mark-Three.) ) likes cats...is perhaps going to be named after some kind of Feline.) I've never seen one in game yet, and been able to afford one, let alone descent upgrades fro my current Sidewinder. The new Orbis station, also featured in this video does look a lot like the huge-wheel shape facility from 2001 : A Space Odyssey. So, hearing the Blue-Danube being played while watching the new Hauler docking is quite appropiate.  As many of the Classic-Elite veteran will tell you that it's the very same midi-tune being played by their ship's Docking-Computer from that very first Elite game. Over thirty years ago now.

I'm loving the new updates! As well as the game being a lot more stable, the galaxy nap is excellent, they've shortened travel time around a system, and the new space station is right out of 2001: A Space Odyssey!!

On top if this, I've finally figured out how to earn creds in combat - go to a high conflict area, choose a faction, and kick the shit out of the opposition. In two hours I'd earned the same creds as two weeks worth of trading!!!

My second Elite-Dangerous - Premium-Beta (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PVA3KVCOKU [b) video.....if your really observant, then you'll notice that it's from just before it's update to .2.

in case your wondering, I've been trying to download the third part (Which is really the second part...) of this video on and off or the last the weeks. After some false starts and occasions where needed to restart my computer. I think it's been left on now, since the middle of last week.

I really need to learn more about using streaming-videos.

I hear it's faster.

Nothing much more to say here, except that Shadowplay stopped recording at about 10.14 minutes into it. Fortunately , I had docked and landed and was safely ensconced within my designated hanger while trading as this happened.

The next  Elite-Dangerous (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISR4ebdGlOk) video from Frontier-Development (The ship you see flying from planet to ship right in the beginning is called a  Eagle-Mark-Two (http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Eagle_Mk_II) (I really want one of those... they remind me of the  Vipers (http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Category:Vipers_(TOS)) (Funny that they share the same name with the  Police-Ship (http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Viper_Mk_III) from Elite) from  Classic-Battlestar-Galactica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlestar_Galactica_(1978_TV_series)) and they are supposed to be very fast and the next one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNSyN0uO3co&list=UUelkSh-JYeT1ng51wzT4nuA) I made. About more than half way through this video, you will notice I'm close to the purple coloured star of Maher.....

I've been told it's a  Brown-Dwarf (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_dwarf), but I still think it's made from candy.

I know I mentioned this earlier, but I didn't get much of response before....

My proposal for a Elite-Dangerous Guild or Clan known as the Knights-of-the-Red-Branch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd24iLq1vKc).....

No lasers.... they just use Kinectic weaponry load-outs on their ships (That are most likely built from salvaged parts of other vessels...If this is allowed.)

They are painted in red and blue woading and tartens.

They have really thick hulls (That are good for ramming other ships...) with no powered-up shielding. The equivalent of going  Sky-Clad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyclad_(Neopaganism)) (I didn't now it was originally a Indian custom!) in space.

They keep a ordinance of  Gae-Bulg-Missiles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A1e_Bulg) that lodge inside other ships on impact and rip them apart as they reverse thrust remove themselves after releasing spikes that fold out from their outer-shells. I don't the technology, but it somehow works and these missiles can only be launched by the pilot using his foot. For this pays homage to the ancient Red-B
ranch-Knight
feat of  Spear-footing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A1e_Bulg).

Last but not least......

Their ships do not use Hyperdrive/Supercruise - Frame-Shifting they simply just  Warp-Spasm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3AWarp_spasm) (Outer-System-Jumping) Salmon-Leap (http://www.paganachd.com/articles/celticmartialarts.html) (Inner-System-Jumping). Yet, they don't just travelled forward, but up and over for many  parsecs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parsec).

Seriously, I haven't asked for or suggested any of this and I doubt that Frontier-Developments would even considering altering the Elite-Dangerous universe to accomadate my ideas.

Yet, if you do like my idea of  Red-Branch-Clan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Branch) in this game.

Please let me know and I'm not even suggest that would be the one in charge of this.

It's just a suggestion...... :D

: ThryllSeekyr 19 July, 2014, 08:08:29 PM
Here are some more videos I made on Friday...(The day before yesterday!)

The first is just me approaching  Azeban-City (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJ2txqoaKuc&list=UUelkSh-JYeT1ng51wzT4nuA) city in my Sidewinder from the right. Using the right-hand thrusters. Those things have made docking a hell of a lot easier. Probably too easily.....

Unfortunitely, this video was cut short by the randomness of Shadowplay and we all miss out on me severly scraping the wings of mySide-Winder as I try to fly it inside vertical to the horizontal entrance. After watching the ship in front of me doing the same thing, but successfully. I think I was too low or too high and never compensated. I then noticed a spectacular display of some ship (Perhaps the same one!) being laser shot from all angles inside the station ...just as I flew inside. I didn't realise..I wasn't recording until after I had touch down on my designated landing-pad. I was so pissed, I decide to relaunch...exiting the station once again and flew right into incoming Cobra- Mark-Three. Which by some co-incidence, looked as though it was charging towards me as well. Fortunitely for me it must have been weakened or just very unlucky as I flew right through it  like hot knife through butter. Shredding it to twisted bits of scrap metal and cargo canisters. Yet, I was still pissed that Shadowplay wouldn't respond when trying to reactivate the recording. Anyway,. I was awarded a bounty of 300 Credits for taking out this Cobra-Mark-Three Well, I assume it was a C.M.3, because that's how it looked from the front right before I tore through it.  I think I was also awarded further demerits on my criminal record for doing this in No-Kill-Zone.

The  Second-Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q59e7fv94g)....which I'm very proud of and this shows something different for a change. At least I hope it is. Just watch it and see.....

All I will ask is if anybody has tried this yet and that hub-pit surrounding the entrance needs more work. I hope they do complete this as I would like to fly my Side-Winder or any ship that can be safely travel in that area...possibly landing there. It looks like a worthy nook to explore.

Also, the holograms appear to be upside down...providing that the Red-Light (Port) is supposed to be on the left and the Green-Light (Starboard) is on the right. Otherwise I don't think this would really matter with station that has landing-pads/control-towers and other buildings and fixtures completely covering the interior wall. There is no real up and down if you in the centre of it all.

Take note of my Wanted status when I head-look right to check it. Yes, and these are very easily earned. Anything from flying inside the station without requesting permission to flying inside as they change their mind about it. Trying to land anywhere inside, but where you are directed to land. This has happened to me a lot. There also the more obvious methods attaining criminal status.

Has anybody  this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJDQE3jjBCk) tried this yet?

It's not my own video, but wish it was.

I have been trying to do this without much success.

I've just downloaded the latest phase of the Beta last night....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The new  Beta-Trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7pzWt_Z5mA) featuring the  Brand-New-Custom-Paint-Jobs (https://store.zaonce.net/game-extras.html/) you can choose for your ship. By the looks, these new options are just restricted to Sidewinders, Cobra's, Vipers. They're all Military, (Jungle, Polar, Urban) and American-Desert (Colorado, Mojave, Sonoran.) themes.... mostly!

Which is surprising considering it's British made game.

What about traditional Celtic colours/designs with spiralling woad's and something like Tartan's and the Union-Jack

I would much prefer to choose my own colour, design and my own heraldric device.

I think the Viper-Police-Craft....

And some transporter ship are the new rides that have been added.

Otherwise, they have also added Solo-Play as well as the regular Multiplayer, Full-Communication with other players and A.I. ships, Finite-Consumption of Fuel (Most probably, only used up when the ship System-Jumps!), Docking-Computer can now be purchased at selected stations. More diverse interiors for the space-stations, (Just check out the new Orbis (In the Aulis system!) Interior with it's trees line boulevards and gardens!)....

Maybe other suns. They now show solar-flares......

Planets, space-stations, load-outs and better graphics. I've seen how things now look more polished in  Another-Players-Video! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-WMCsORdD8&app=desktop)

And it seems much faster... Like the ship's speed and how fast it responds to my various prompts.

Yet, I didn't get even as far as getting inside the station after making a request to dock as Shadowplay stopped rolling after I started it recording as the game was loading earlier.

I just noticed that the green recording indicator wasn't showing. How irritating and I pressed for it to record again and then it just gave me this grey box with a red slash through it.

This might mean I run ot of space again...even after the reappearance of my originally 2 terabyte hard-drive which is now only 50-60 giga-bytes.

I might have used up all that room already.

Not to worry, I'll just remove some other games.

Until I can record it again, I refuse to play anymore and can't wait to get back into it.

Please Help Me

I have just switched computers after my good one has been sent to the shop again to get fixed. I'm referring to the problem I'm having with the hard-drive that went missing.

And all fucking afternoon, I have been on this small laptop trying to log on to the Frontier - Forum trying to log on to my account there to use their forum and on to download load an install the ED Launcher so I can continue to play the freking game while my other computer is getting fixed.

I can't fucking do this because they are not accepting my password or any other of the passwords I have tried to change it to.

So, if anybody over here...has a account over on that forum that would like to help me.

Please do by contacting them and letting them know that the Commander Mick is having a tough time logging into his account . So that he can use their forum and  play their bloody game.

The e-mail  connected to that account is  pthmichael@yahoo.com.au

Same as it is over here.

Yeah, I was for about a week and I'm still pissed off about it.

You know, maybe if somebody else, other than me on this forum that also has a account on that forum would let them know I'm having problems logging into them and my game.

Because, I can't get at them at all.

It's working now and I'm still using the same browser. So, no need for what you advised Mr Banners.

I fell compelled to let them know how I felt about this if it was intentional and might withhold some of my valuable insight until find their place.

There was something I've been meaning to tell them about how the Milky-Way has been looking, As it does look like the stain you may find inside babies nappy.

I've been tempted to give it the name.....

Muddy-Way....or The-Big-Brown-Stain or The-Big-Skid-Mark!!!!!!

There were a few more names I had for it, but they are now forgotten. I should really write down everything as soon as it poops into my head.

Weeks early, I even went so far as to compare the look of space when the opening Titles appears after the game boots up.

There is a lot of  brown-stuff (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJ2txqoaKuc&list=UUelkSh-JYeT1ng51wzT4nuA) I notice floating around. Stuff... I don't want clinging to the outer-hull and canopy of my ship. I feel compelled to almost ask one of them to lick it off if it ever sticks.

Otherwise, it could be just spilt coffee.

They haven't attempted to change this at all since I mentioned it and now it seems all the more intentional.

I survived my first interdiction that didn't involve me flying away from my attackers at full speed before system-jumping.

Yeah, I took this this marauder down by sniping then ramming them in a zero-g jousting duel. While being reduced to a hull of 2% and then something odd happened afterwards where my hull went further down to 0%. Yet my Sidewinder continued to hold up and even survived the next couple of system jumps and visits to the space stations.

Yet, I had barely any credits due to being hitting something very hard and out of the blue after exiting a station at full speed while boosting with the flight-assist turned off. I then made the mistake of wasting the credits on my current load-out when it wasn't any better then what I started with.

Anyway, as I had little credits, a canister of Algae, but far from any system that would pay well for that and just another 250 credits to my name as a reward for taking down that crim. I was also far from getting my 0% hull repaired. I got quote for abut 1200 credits to get this done.

Before, I got much further my game froze and by the time I sorted that out. I found that my Sidewinder had been destroyed in the meantime.

So, once again, I'm back where I started.....

Hopefully, if the video I made of this was successfully recorded. I will soon have it up on You-tube.

Elite Dangerous BETA TWO (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Qr2onED6r4) (Not my own video!) I managed to get the Elite Dangerous Beta 2.04 on to my preferred computer about a week ago nearly a week later than it's release. Due to my terrible internet. Although, I got it on to older computer few days earlier because it was in different room sititng right next to router and soon moved my other computer closer to the router as well after wating for it it to successfully update for about week.

Before, the launcher informed me that it was ready to upgrade. I had spent nearly a hour trying to connect my game with the server and failing miserably.

After I had worked myself up to a mostly upgraded an meagrely upgraded Cobra Mark Three. (Yes, there were two of them!)

The first one I had destroyed after running into the back of a Anaconda, (Despite my Military Grade Hull Plating!) after I had misjudged the time it should have took for me to slowed down after I had sped towards it.

The second time was when I took on a lone Sidewinder that is executed a kamikaze collision course into the front of my new ship. After I had taken their hull down by a considerable amount.

It's such shame that I had spent most of my remaining credits on a large number of commodities that might have fetched me a decent profit at Chango Dock (Aquaponics!) that only left me with less than 300 Credits.

Neither ship was able to be refunded to me due to my poor credit management and it would have only taken to less than 3000 credits to keep it, minus the new Out-Fittings.
Perhaps, if I didn't invest in that Docking Computer which I didn't really need anyway.
Not that it matters now, if the second part of the BETA gets a complete wipe.
Everybody is talking about playing it now on the Frontier Forums, and I'll most probably be playing this later on in the week or later on  tomorrow (In the very Least!) by the looks of the ED Launcher.

They must have fast internet.

My first Cobra Mark Three,

I had outfitted it with ....

One a souped up Beam Laser and Rail Gun each!

Two Missile Launchers!

One Cargo Scanner and Warrant Kill Scanner!

One Docking Computer and something between regular and military hull plating.

Aside from the Anaconda that destroyed it, I never had any other chances to take it to battle or complete a cargo run and I had not by that stage figured out how to set up multiple fire groups to operate all of the weapon and other things together. It does involve switching between two or three weapons at a time within the same fire group. As it was, I only had the laser and missile launcher set up. I never sussed it out by the time I lost the first ship.

You can also have two or more or all weapons hooked up to the one key bind, but it's ill advised and wasteful. Especially if you going to have multiple missile launchers hooked up to the same key bind. Missiles are not cheap either....at 10,000 credits a pop. (I think :-\)

Operating the many Fire Groups sounds awkward to me and using the  Voice Attack (http://voiceattack.com/) and the  Elite Dangerous Voice Pack (http://www.elitedangerousvoicepack.com/) may take away some of the complexity to operating your ship.

I have been using the former for about a month and half now and it allows me to operate Voice Coms proving I have micro phone head set connected. I can just speak into it and be heard by other players who have opened ship board communications with me. It's not yet been perfected yet.

This also allows me to voice over for my game play videos. I believe I put the first one up here earlier.

I will Explain this more later.......

While the latter adds a response for using just about every function used on your ship. Instead of the regular  responses you get for toggling of Deployment of Hard Points (Weapons), Cargo/Fuel Scoop, Jettison Cargo, Silent Running, Filling Your Cargo Hold to Full, Being Attacked, Your Chosen Target or Your Shields have been shot down, Loss or Damage to Ship Functions while in Combat, Taking Hull Damage, While Losing Life-Support, Frame- Shifting, Docking Request Response, Being Told Your Landing Gear is not down while close to the Landing Pad, Successful Landing.

I've had a look at all the different sound files that can be applied and see they seem to have covered everything and them some different variations on those themes already used. There is also a type of Galactic-Pedia that will allow your ship responds explaining and defining other planets and galaxies and so on (Most of these are know to me outside of the game, apart from Bootis and some seem to have been fabricated out side of the game as well! Yet, this will be updated on a regular basis!) and describing each known commodity in the game already. In case you didn't know already. Some are dead obvious to me and the more exotic and alien things needed a explanation.

One my Second Cobra Mark Three....

I will post the rest of this later...

Please help me with  this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=932czxgr9Wk&list=UUelkSh-JYeT1ng51wzT4nuA) :-[

I don't seem to have the same version of Windows or the specific software that this video is about for any of the other video tutorial about this to of much use to me.
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.
: Banners 09 October, 2014, 04:27:06 PM
In the "when I say" window type exactly the command you want the software to respond to, e.g. "Boost engines"
: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.

Thanks for the response, but my problem is that when I installed the template for the new software that would allow it to function for Elite Dangerous and. It would not answer my question about Canis Minor

It told me that my Windows-Media-Player wouldn't recognise the URL address of that sample.

I thought it might be something wrong with my WMP...not sure really.

BTW...Boost would be one of my least needed voice commands. I really need a voice command for Requesting Docking Permission and switching Fire-Groups (If you understand those) and resting Hyper-Space/Super-Cruise for other systems, planets, stations by voice rather than going into the left hand U.I. manually.

Thanks for your help all the same.

Edit...I just checked it and this is what it does exactly. When I try a voice command?

It says... Unable to play sound : [Invalid URI: The format of the URI could not be determined.]

I tried a few things like upgrading my WMP, but my version won't doesn't get any better  :-\

Beta Three was released yesterday and I started play testing this morning after some initial difficulties.

What it brings us.....

-Multiple Ship Owner Ship,

-Two New Ships...the Imperial Clipper and Federal Dropship.

-Player Driven Interdiction and after having it happen to me. I have to admit it looks really cool, much better than the Hyperspace tunnel sequence which has also been slightly improved.

-Philanthropy missions.

-Fuel Scoops and Sun Skimming.

-Mineing Lasers and Refinies (Hoppers) with Asteroid Mining.

-Outposts Now reflect the low gravity that surrounds them.

-Area has been Expanded to over 2,400 systems with a improved galaxy map.

-Visuals of planets have been overhauled, ice planets have fractures, and they all have dynamic ice caps and liquid levels. Plus lots of other stuff as well.

Here is the official  Trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jTRbmUzc8o)

Went into the city last Monday morning for a change in surroundings for a few hours and found the other three Elite Dangerous books that were not included with the ones I already got.in a large bookstore called DYMOCKS. It's kind of odd how I immediately found them on set of shelves that I go to when I visit.

WANTED by Gavin Deas.....

DOCKING IS DIFFICULT by Gidean Defoe.....

NEMORENSIS by Simon Spurrier.....

The latter recently accepted my friend request on FACEBOOK....

I sent a message to him remembering him here in days past and his new book DOCKING IS DIFFICULT.

Yes, you read me right and that wasn't a typo, I thought that was the book he authored.....

I hope he finds that funny rather than insulting!

Official Elite Dangerous Launch Trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6peGu2yG6o)

I prefer the Gutterballs sequence from The Big Lebowski film to the over clichéd slo-mo walking to their ships all wearing the same uniform. No individuality there and then it improves with some different music as perhaps these very same Pilots/Explorers/Traders/Combateers embark on a surprise attack run on the excavation site and then two ships Super-Cruise to Random Orbis station, Where I did notice either two or the very same Cobra-Mark-Three flying unassisted turn suddenly fire back on it's attackers with expert timing and precision at  1:08 and 1:19

Heh, in the many hours of flight-time I clocked in Elite and Frontier, I never once imagined myself walking to my ship in a skin-tight suit while halfhearted metal played in the background.   I would have thought a Han Solo / Mal Reynolds look would have better suited the owner-operator of a Cobra.

Still... what sort of hardware might a squaxx need to run this game comfortably?

The game in the trailer looks cool but it bears no resemblence to gameplay in Elite Dangerous, what the hell were they thinking? I makes it look like COD in space ships.

If anyone is interested in playing the game then don't pay any attention to the trailer, take a look at some of the countless youtube videos that are around, ED is a great game but it isnt the game in the trailer.

This is a great example of gameplay, with commentary, and a real edge-of-your-seat watch.  Two online players go head to head.

Will the pirate escape, or will the bounty hunter claim their prize?

Nice video, that guy has some piloting skills to fly like that without flight assist on. I wonder if he is using a head tracker to look around like that?

I'm playing with an X-box pad at the moment and it is very playable but I am thinking of going for a cheap Hotas system. I wanted to get voice attack as well but the wife has confirmed that there will be mockery involved.

I searched high and low for the Theustmaster HOTAS - they're sold out everywhere!  I eventually settled on the  Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Precision Fightstick, and hopefully should get it by Tues.  it's here if you fancy it - got a couple of recommendations in the Elite Dangerous forum:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CJ5FPTA/ref=pe_385721_51767431_TE_dp_1

Until then I'm going to be sting by keyboard I think.  I guess everyone rushed out for the HOTAS either while it was in beta, or just prior to the game's release.0

: Re: Elite could be returning to a PC near you.
: Rog69 21 December, 2014, 12:16:25 PM
I used Mouse and Keyboard at first but this is a rare case of a PC game that is better with a pad.
It still needs a keyboard as well though, there just aren't enough buttons on an pad to cover everything, but it certainly makes the flight control a lot better.

I flip flopped for weeks about getting the Thrustmaster Hotas, it seemed a bit excessive for just one game but I will probably end up getting one when they are back in stock.

He could of course be using Occulus Rift.  That's a piece of kit I would love to get my hands on!

His game is dramatically different from the Beta! So much conent and polish. Great music, lots of missions, improved system to system travel, and a lot easier to earn some creds! I'd managed to save enough for an ECM after shuttling one load of cargo and making a pirate drop his cargo after a brief skirmish. Plus you get creds if you find something not already noted on the galaxy map.  Great fun!!!

There are no crews, each player is a lone wolf trader / bounty hunter / explorer. Currently grouping with other players isn't particularly easy in open play but they are working on improving that. You can play in a private group so that you and the other players in the group have a private universe (along with NPC's) and you can switch freely between open, private and solo play.

You can't hire NPC's, they are just there to flesh out the universe.

hahaha!  Nice one Goaty!

I've been having a blast with this game.  I've trekked across a big part of one tiny spiral arm of the Milky Way, and actually made it to Sol!  I orbited Earth for a bit, took some pics, then a quick sightseeing trip around the Moon.

Then I noticed a signal from 'deep space'.  It took a 45 minute flight to get there, and found Voyager 1!!!!!

Aside from that, I have my Cobra Mk II now, and am wasting as many pirates as possible to upgrade all the equipment on it.

Incredibly good game, if you're into space combat/trading/exploring type games.

I haven't got there yet, (Earth and the rest of the Sol system!) but I do have moderately upgrade Cobra-Mark-Three painted in Bounty Hunter colours.

I haven't had a proper game of this since Boxing-Day morning right before my computer that had just come back from being fixed started playing up again.

We later found out it had something to do with the extra buttons on the left hand side of Naga-Hex-Mouse interfering with the keyboard bindings causing it random type stuff and close down and open up web pages.

We tried using another keyboard and mouse, but neglected to disconnect the other mouse and the same thing happened.

Though, we didn't know at the time.

So, we decided to reinstall/restore the operating system and refused to complete this function after already starting and we had to send the computer in to be fixed again.

Thankfully this was free of charge, I think.....

I now works after we got it back earlier this week.

I have spent all day yesterday applying voice commands to my own personal key-binds within the game.

If you remember  Voice Attack (http://www.voiceattack.com/) (I had to purchase this twice, because I couldn't recover the Rego-Key from my first purchase! Luckily it's dirt cheap at $8,00!) and the  Voice-Pack (http://www.elitedangerousvoicepack.com/) made for Elite Dangerous/Star Citzen.

I finally figured out how to sort of get it working after doing what I said above and here is a video.....

 Applying-More-Thrust (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UF9k6a-ABI)

Still my efforts need more perfecting, give it and me more time and take my word for it.

It's working...trust me ...I'm not cheating!

I have just spent the last 8 and a half hours playing this after the new Power-Play update.

Not that I fully understand the upgrades, but the textures now look less pixelated (If they were int eh first place.) and the this mot noticeable on the title screen. The bump-mapping on planets or what ever pass's for that these days look better as well. The suns look brighter...etc.

There are now personal identities that can be backed , people in positions power and the last one called Dlaine who has a suspicious resemblance to the warped one. I haven't backed any of them yet. Not until I learn more about them.

I have also brought a Adder and have mostly upgraded it spending a few thousand credits shy of the remainder from the 245,000 credits I spent on those as well as it's purchase. Pity, I didn't bother getting any of the paint-jobs for it. I thought I had, but only have the decals, for my rankings,  and the one's that prove my Founder-Ship. Strangely, there is also a mirrored version, so that it may be read in a mirror.

On the subject of Ranking, they are now shown in percentages to give you idea how far you got to go on each one before you attain another level.

I'm currently.....

Novice

Mostly Penniless

Mostly Aimless

Of course, I thought I might have at least attained the rank of the combat Dangerous by now, yet I was always carelessly getting my own ship destroyed and losing many valuable bounties in the process. Today,. I still made the same mistakes, but showed more determination and I think that $245, 000 credits was the most I ever made in one sitting.  I only stopped now, because I ran out of hard-drive space.

For the Adder, I brought a Fixed-Beam-Laser to compliment the two fixed Pulse-Lasers it was sold to me with. I have upgraded most of everything very modestly except for Power-Distribution and swapped the Discovery-Scanner for a Fuel-Scoop. I also, brought a Warrant-Scanner with a Frame-Shift-Indictor and complimented those with a Wake-Scanner replacing Two-CC cargo space to fit that one in.  I also brought one of the new Limpet-Drones that automatically retrieve jettisoned/stolen cargo cannisters in the event I get attacked while trying to pick them up the old-fashioned way. They are real fast, and I almost got this on video while using the External-Debugging-Camera to watched it from outside the ship.  Just before I stopped playing, I exchanged the original Fixed-Pulse-Lasers for two Tracking-Burst-Lasers.

I still have the more upgraded Cobra-Mark-Three parked at he station where I brought the Adder while I get used to flying the new ship. Which I expected to be much faster and more slippery than the former, but it's merely got a better turning factor. I reckon, it would be one of the fastest after buying the best and most suitable upgrades for it.

I also have a less upgraded Hauler parked at the same place I brought it. I brought a Tracking-Multi-Cannon for that one and not much else and was destroyed not far from exiting the station as I am still consider hostile nearly everywhere in this game.

Can't wait until I can afford any of the bigger ships, but will only concentrate on upgrading what I have already in the meantime.

This has gone early access on Xbox One now - https://store.xbox.com/en-GB/Xbox-One/Games/Elite-Dangerous-Game-Preview/5d1a6afe-0a59-4121-b23d-aefa0915c90c

Early access isn't something I've ever been fussed about and have no interest at all in playing a game before it's finished (do enough of that as it is!) but the fact they're selling it at a discounted rate for people who buy it early access means it'd be silly not to really. Reckon I'll make the purchase and then sit on it until full release!

That's cheaper than the steam sale but I guess console owners will have to continue to pay their Live and Plus subscriptions if they want to play it.
I really love Elite but I still wouldn't pay 25 quid for Dangerous or any game that requires a connection to the internet unless the dev has a solid exit strategy that doesn't leave unplayable junk in my library.

Seriously, I ever feel the need to get one of those Gaming-Cabinents, I may look for local tradesmen who would do that for me and customise it to my own person needs and wants. Yet, who wants to sit thing....really, it's like your training to be a Dalek.

Just finished another long gaming session after finally freeing up more hard-drive space to get a video of most of it....at least. Yeah, I used up all the HD space after a few hours and in that time I had made at least another 100,000 credits and blew all of that on one modestly upgraded Eagle with a extra Pulse-Laser with tracking and a better Power-Plant and barely faster enough to escape the local security after leaving the station.

Since the video stoped recording even earlier this morning, I was determined to finishing cleaning up with two contracts that were almost identical in getting rid of any eight pirates. Four each in two separate systems and still made another hundred , thousand credits while never completing those scenarios and brought myself a modestly upgraded Side-Winder. Swapped the standard Pulse-Lasers for two Burst-Lasers both with tracking as getting more efficient [b[Thrusters and Power-Distribution and ran out of fuel training to finish one of those Pirate mission with just one or two more of them to shoot down in a nearby system.

This nearby system seemed to be strangely further away than I had originally thought and just ran out fule getting there.......

I know there is no excuse seeing as the fuel scoop is standard fitting on every ship. Yet my reasoning is that unless the fuel scoop is sufficiently upgraded, I'm going to be spending more time hovering my ship within a corona's distance of the nearest star and when I had to do this, I flew too close and now I'm stuck there.

After being dropped from Super-Cruise in the process and not have enough fuel to make anymore jumps.

My only problem here was that it was none almost five o'clock in the morning and I had the feeling of being sent on wild goose chase to find this previous location. Time I had taken enough getting to where I was and too much trouble for me to self-destruct the ship and start the journey again. It's not that I had any expensive cargo. Time was a factor here.

While searching for the Rescue-Beacon on my ship. I discovered that self-repair function that does this at the expense of other ship functions. I think it takes a little from every other ship module to repair module's that no longer work or are badly damaged and just not working properly. So I tried this to se if it would make some fuel from other parts of the ship. :P

Also wondering is this can be used to make Hull repairs, (It was at 45% at that point!) but it never worked, not at all. It failed to make any repairs at all.

The Beacon has since been changed since I last used it and it now looks like I require wing-men to make it possible for me to be rescued this way. I'm not too sure, because all it says is WING or OFF. Its ambiguous...but I saved and exited from the game  for the first time while stuck out in deep space and close to a sun while I left this mostly un-used contraption on.

Despite this game not being really realistic in many ways, how would you explain your automatic rescue every time you get your ship destroyed, but the need to use beacon or wait for help to come if you just run out fuel.

Their is obvious gap or hole there!

Been meaning to show this picture I took in the game itself, (Yes, it's my own!) for a while and now it is. the Eagle, my second last purchase and normally wearing the pirate colours, but from the light of sun underneath . We just can't tell.

I will be playing again soon.

Have taken lots of screenies, but can't find them.

Played this for what must have been four hours earlier this morning in a mostly unproductive game session.

Was given some contract to move some Narcotics and lost about three canisters by mob who wanted me to ship them. This of course, spoiled it and only happened while I left my ship unattended in Super-Cruise for the few minutes it took me to either empty or refill my bladder in real time. When some body scratched enough paint work on my SideWinder to cause the Cargo-Hatch to malfunction longer enough to lose three of those.

So, that would have got me anywhere from 70,000 to 100,000 credits.

Still, I continued to play accepting about five of those contracts where I had to scoop up some sensitive materials that were dropped. Three of those were Black-Box's and the remaining two were Experimental-Chemicals and not all from the same systems.

I only handed two of those, I think and rage quit after I was down by the local authorities while I was trying to complete the rest of those. These would have netted enough credits that might have well and truly made up from screwing up the original Narc-Run.

I also lost the first batch of Black-Box-Experimental-Chemicals while Cargo-Hatched malfunctioned after I overheated the ship while scooping-fuel from the sun and made a mental note to be more careful with that in futures runs. While I was able to pick my dropped canisters straight away in some instances. I completely over looked the accidently jettisoning  and forgot about them until I bothered to look in my hold after I had jumped from what ever part of space I lost in them in and just left the compute to silently scream in the kitchen.  Yet, I had enough time to do find some more of those canisters.

Only after I had solved a problem I was having with my ship's pathetic FDL drive that wouldn't get me out of some extremely uninteresting backwater of systems where I had to search for these canisters. Once my cargo hold had  just two canisters, it appeared to be restricted to just those few systems without a chance of making back to the system where I could hand those in to make the credits. Yet, I found a longer way (The only way...) to get to where I needed, but that's when I lost the canisters and had redo those.

I think the navigation thing that plots a route for you ship to traversed the least amount of systems to reach my destination wasn't working in not in the same way. Sometimes, It wouldn't do this at all, I and had fly blind until I was closer enough. Mostly, this meant that I failed a lot what I thought were the much easier contracts that I had also taken.

Anyway, I only handed one of those specials and between what I made there and the unplanned pirate hunting I did around a Nav-Beacon while I was stranded in those smaller systems where not much else was happening.  I was able to make up to nearly 70,000 credits and upgrade the FDL-Drive and Fuel-Tank enough to seriously improve jumping distance and while laden with a full hold of cargo. It's only got four slots, though. I certainly noticed the difference after having the upgrades fitted and flew right out of there without too much other trouble.

I had also up-graded the Power-Plant (So much so, I didn't have to fly with some of my mostly non-essential Modules switched off ) , Power-Distribution (I have a theory, that if I keep upgrading this one, it might reach a stage where it never needs to be adjusted without adversely effecting the two other power-systems.) and my Life-Support up to fifteen minutes while my canopy is leaking air. I also brought the Tactical-Paint-Sets fro every ship I own on earlier occasions (Perhaps, I already said this above.) and finally for the Side-Winder and ended up with the dark shade of graphite . Thinking that anything that eats my ship now will get lead poisoning. I also decided to swap out the skull decals fro my Founder-Badge. I am a Founder after all, and evenly noticed that I could take a contract specifically for Founders only because of this.

I'm thinking of suggesting to the developers (Frontier-Developer) that decal and maybe even paint jobs should rely some Nano-Colour-Paint-Parts tech that I only have ben thinking about that allows you swap between those without doing so in outfitting. Especially, pirate  colours like I have seen in some many films about pirates when they let fly the Jolly Rodger. It's kind feels gimped I can only do once I have landed. So, I felt it needs the Nano-Tech to pull this off. or maybe Holo-Graphic-Decals. How about that?

Yet, being stuck in ship wearing the pirate-colours until I decide to swap them over next time I dock, feels kind of gimped to me.

Which reminds me of another thing....in Star-Citizen. They have a line of official-pirate ships in that game. This kind of silly to me, because pirates have never been known to officially mass produce their boats. unless, I missing some other point here.  Otherwise, they just borrow or steal Empirical or Navy- Frigates and Merchant vessels and this works as a false front for them until fly their skull-n-bones flag.

I think that was it and no pictures because all the ones I have taken last session have mysteriously disappeared into the Twilight-Zone. Either that I haven't figures out the correct button for taking screen-shots.

Is it Alt + F10 or F11 or not?

My second last game session of this last night until early morning was huge improvement over many previous games since I made about at least 500,000 credits all up, possibly more and ended the game  with about 450,000 credits (At a rough guess!) in a system close to where my named station is.

This was because of the upgraded I made to my Side-Winder improving everything that could be improved and swapping out my cargo space for a Frame-Shift-Indictor where I could then hunt for pirates after been given two contracts that netted me about 136, 000 (At a guess!) a piece and that was twice. Although there was another one that would have got me about 500, 000 at least if I shot down 10 pirates rather than the other two where I only had shoot four and then seven. Although, I shot down ten pirates eventually, it was never in time  and that contract was a failure.

Fortunately, that four pirate contract one that had me hunting them in the exact same system, also count four of those pirates toward that goal and I was able to hand in that one, as well as the seven pirate bounty
instead.

This session was still sweet.....so, I'm so happy about that.

BTW, I forgot to mention I did swap out both Tracking-Burst-Lasers for a Missile-Rack and a Tracking-Beam-Laser. Replacing the missiles for about 6000 credits altogether is not going to be a problem  if I keep getting contracts that pay as well as they were above. Except it took me a while to realise that little targeting circle needs to be as close to the fixed rectical in the natural centre of the ship display to have any chance of scoring a hit with them. They are not have as reliable as the ones from Classic-Elite.

This doesn't always seem to work as my prey often flies closer while the missile flies past it harmlessly and I only scored missile hits on the larger ships that moved much slower.

In my very last game session which I am still in the middle of........I discovered how almost useless the Wake-Scanner's are when they only track the wake to the next system they escaped to and no further. perhaps  need to be quicker, but this happened twice and the first time I lost 82,000 credit bounty on ship I had almost took down.

Back to it.....

More pictures later, if I can find them!

BTW.....

Found stations /outposts named Woolley and Renny and another called Noreiga. Don't remember their exact system thought.

There is also George Lucas and that fellow who who had something to do with original and new Alien film's.

I had last changed my colours to the lighter Ignition shade of colour and sign even though it feels a little juvenile.

My last game session was almost as good as the one above, except for huge loss where I lost my ship and about 150, 000 credits of bounty that I was yet to be paid. Yet, this is lost
with the ship and never relinguished with the replacement :(

I ended ending the game with roughly 300, 000 credits and this was how I started. I had also swapped the Missile Launcher for a another Tracking -Beam-Laser equal to the other one I have and the Mirrored Armour because hardly any other ships using kinetic weaponry.

Make that Elite Dangerous (https://www.elitedangerous.com/en/horizons) - Horizons (https://community.elitedangerous.com/node/247) (Watch out it's a Double-Link!)

Not so sure about trying to sell this using the that trailer and then this buggy flying out of the cargo hold like it was going to make up for the  Slo-Mo walking to get into the ship in the first place. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwvjElmFCfE).

This also reminds me of the  Argo - ST Nemesis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX-SYhzfaf0) scene from that Star Trek. Not one of favourites, but a scene to be remembered.

Did Frontier Developments think a bit more Star Trek (As I see it!) in their universe is going to keep their fan base interested. I'd prefer that ED's popularity to rise on it's own merits.

I was more impressed with this  Star-Citizen Trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok_JC-ClscY)

Even though they almost do the same thing, yet I guess using vechile to explore some alien terrain is the best decision.

Here's a flow chart of how what you get if you order this now, or already have it from purchasing the Alpha test.

My first live stream of this game. If only I knew it was this easy much earlier. Way earlier!!!

Trade Runs & Bounty Hunting (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfEnMYbKjgk)

BTW even though it's very poor quality for a video and even at HD format.

There was this moment, a few moments where I had dropped to Weak-Signal-Zone to see if there was the designated illicit cargo I was meant to find there. There was and then there other appeared out of no where.

As usual!

Yet, I still lined up with the illegal cargo cannister floating in front of me. I was almost there and already taking a beating from my uninvited guests when one of the just flew across my flight path collecting my intended cargo with it. With as much speed and grace as the next generation Eagle and Viper that hasn't been designed yet. Yet, it was either a Anaconda or Python judging from it size.

Then they proceeded to boil my Cobra into oblivion before I could get away in time.

I was initially down about tis and the fact that I didn't think I had it on video, but my live stream which was done via You-tube. Which means it got uploaded as well. With out taking up any room on my hard drive.

Gone are the days when I juggling files from drive to drive in a desperate attempt clear more space. Once I have brought another external hard drive, four or five of which I have already filled with videos not yet uploaded to You-Tube. I will be rid of this curse that be severely limiting my game play for the past year.

You may think I'm nuts to want to document my games this way, but with Elite Dangerous I did make solem declaration in private to document everyone of my game sessions until I reach the highest rank in each of three aspects of play and my pilgrimage to Sol/Earth.

Again, about that larger ship flying in front me to get what I was after and succeed in it. I though it might be more than another player. I thought it takes some serious some A.I. to pull off the stunt in such a large ship and yet, it's also true I don't get a lot of players in my end of the ED galaxy.

Look for it in the video if you care to watch and true not to laugh at my homelienss, and the silly clown make up you see superimposed over the top half of my face towards the end of the it.

I've been offered a free model of either the....

Viper MkIII

Anaconda

Cobra MKIII

They're offering this for free, even though I asked for refund and I do recall that the models that were promised originally cost about 1000 of my Australian dollars and I do recall my refund was short lived. (I spent it faster than I realised and actually needed it for party I thought I would have been throwing last year. I was also spending it on other stuff, costume supplies, junk food, going to the movies, and it was when I was about buy myself another movie camera, that I found I didn't have enough left in the bank and suspected foul play from the Army Surplus store I had visited just before the one I was trying to purchase the camera in. You really have to be careful with bank/credit/debit Mastercards these days. Even the store will use their hi-tech card readers to fleece you if  they can get away with it. I do carry all my cards in one of those special lead lined carry cases. Yet, the cards is vunerable when I have to use it and that when I think the tech thieves pounce with out my even knowing I was robbed. That's why I hate buying stuff when I'm surrounded by lots of customers and then the is the possibility that store itself are the ones doing the ripping off. These days, I feel safer carrying large wads of cash after carefully making a with drawl from one of those hole in the wall banks or the bank self. I also carry something heavy or sharp in case anybody want to roll me the old fashioned way.)

Anyway, these are only 99 dollars Australian. So, I can only imagine how good the more expensive models might have been. They also come in two sizes, based on their longest side.

Viper Mk3 - 3" or 5"

Anaconda - 5" or 8.5"

Cobra Mk3 - 4" or 7"

I know I should gone for the great Anaconda based on it's size, but opted for the Cobra Mk3 out of it's familiarity. It was the first ship & the best one I currently fly in the new game. I went for bigger, because why not. They're offering me this one for free.

Now where my enlargement ray?

Meant to share this earlier. Because it was on Friday that I got my model ship and you can tell it came out of a 3D printer. It's got this powdery texture that I'm not altogether sure might eventually crumble into dust one future day. I'm not even sure if it might hold against snapping if I applied pressure to the thing while holding it in both hands.

Sorry no photos yet. Still haven't figured out how to...maybe I can do that through Facebook later.

Finally got Elite Dangerous - Horizons with the Engineers Beta 2. Something installed after not playing the game at all for about 2 months, I think. I believe, I've only had one game of it since I moved house.

It's been mixture of spotty internet & problems with the login that has kept me from playing this game. I'm sure I spent the last month fuming over constant invalid logins attempts, refusals to be connected with the game server, timed out updates that would not complete, and the age old Xinput error which now has a fix built into the game launcher.

The real problem is that this game is so online dependant. Even if your playing it alone in a universe filled
only with the game sown A.I.

So, I finally manage to reinstall the game and update it with the new Engineers Beta 2.something (This is no joke, but I can't bother looking up the exact number right now. Just let me know if you want that last numeral.) which promises a new faction Engineers who will upgrade you ship any way you want
to more significant level of detail (I believe that may be true, but have still yet to see any proof of this!)

All I know is that mission givers are no longer faceless. There is a character portrait of them right there on the screen as you accept or decline there request. The screen it self is also different. It just looks better designed and set out like fancy website page. You should all know about those.

The ship Outfitting section had also been improved with actual stylised iconic art work for each type of weapon, module inside and out. The page for browsing any ship part you want to install almost takes up most of the screen now (Like the new mission & contract pages!) with each aspect of the new ship part represented by Red (Bad) or Blue (Very Good!) Orange (Neutral!) circle (Just a outline!) with a number or percentage indicating it's effectiveness with in the circle. This makes it much simpler to replace or swap parts to improve the effectiveness of your craft. (I know, have down graded my ship by accident a few times & may have done so again. It's still pain to compare colours & numbers & may have down graded my Viper Mark Three again.

Before I started recording my games again, I took my Viper out for a run (Away from station's orbit!) into (Supercruise) in the local system space & found a other subtle difference. When targeting a Unidentified Signal. You will also be informed if it's a threat & the level of threat or the number of hostiles in that zone. Not sure if this might be because of my Discovery Scanner or the Kill Warrant version....but sure nifty.

Not that I noticed, before...but the station voice-over or parking authority sounds better. It's male voice that really sounds like he works for NASA (American sounding!) and most unlike the shopping styled voices that were being used previously. Not that I have a problem with those, but this one is way better. it just sound more genuine. Although, it's the same voice within the two different star systems I flew around in now. I'm not so sure about that....

Some interesting videos that are not mine....

A few good Truckers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wHg1XiYfUs) (Might have been
voiced by somebody who can do a Dennis Hopper voice if you recall a old Sci-Fi spoof he was famous for!), but no it isn't actually. Just keep watching them, I only watch the first. Thee may be few of them.

It was advertised on this video by Obsidian Ant which I found very informative....

 With promises of Multi-Crews-Ships, Custom-Pilot-Avatars, & Damage-Ship-Models, Ship-Shipping & Module-Storage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1onsLFxU8k) ( For whatever reason...)

I really hate it when I get cut out of the game loop almost as much as I hate getting cut out of the loop of life.
