General / Total Worry!
11 September, 2004, 04:41:10 PM
I'm in two minds about the upcoming Total War story, part of me is really looking forward to it while part of me is a little uneasy about the whole caboodle.

See, the stories featuring the Total War organisation have been amongst my very, very favourite Dredds (America 1&2 and the recent Terror). They've all been really personal stories that have proven to be poignant and intelligent reads - much more an your run of the mill Dredds. Now I'm sure I heard that Total War is going to be a Hollywood blockbuster, big bang style strip and I just think that if this is true, it'll cheapen the fantastic build up that Wagner has (once again) delivered.

Coupled with this, the build up stories have had sumptuous lifelike art by Colin MacNeil (well two of 'em, the computer colouring in America 2 was a HUGE disappointment) which really suited the mood of the strips. It worries me that Mr Flint, who's work I love to bits, is on art chores as he seems to be your more wacky (ABC Warriors) or crash bang wallop (Dredd/Aliens) type of artist. Admittedly his Lowlife stuff was wonderfully gritty, but still had a cartoony feel which I don't want in my more sensible Total War arc.

I'm sure my concerns are completely silly and needless, especially as this is Wagner and Flint I'm talking about fer crissakes, but I just hope the emotional and intelligent Total War arc isn't belittled by this story.

General / Islands of Adventure.
10 August, 2004, 07:35:08 PM
I've just come back from a lovely holiday in America where one of my many highlights was Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park.

One of the themed areas in the park was called 'Marvel Super Hero Island' and you guessed it - featured many rides and attractions all about bloody Marvel Superheroes! The Hulk rollercoaster was amazing and the 3D Spiderman ride has to be experienced to be believed! I can only imagine what kind of kick Marvel comics fans get when they visit here.

As a massive 2000ad fan I was as jealous as hell, wandering around imagining how cool a Dredd Rollercoaster would be (on Lawmasters!), dreaming up Strontium Shoot em up rides and a scary Cab Inc ghost train.

What would you lot like to see in a 2000ad theme park?

Off Topic / 'Grayson' Fan Film.

Dunno if this has been mentioned elsewhere on the board but it looks great, even better than that strange Batman/Predator/Alien fan film that came out not so long back.

Off Topic / I'm the world's greatest teacher!

Totally off topic here folks but I want to show off! If you click on the link below you will be able to download the fine English lesson I taught my kiddywinks the week before last.

My kids follow a sensory curriculum as they are profoundly disabled (which explains the story part of the lesson) but can access computers by pressing specially adapted switches (the second part). You need Microsoft word and PowerPoint to view it.

I know this is way off topic but I think it'll appeal to you lot! Think of it as a future shock.

Hope you like it!

A fun little movie is on this strange site which is more than a little reminiscent of a couple of rather dodgy female 2000ad characters. Take a look...

Prog / Prog 1390
17 May, 2004, 04:04:35 PM
Cor, I'm the first! I'm off work with flu and I have to say, Prog 1390 was like a hot toddy, a hot lemon and a big snotty blow all at once (they're all meant to be good things). Here we go...

Cover - Dicussed in another thread but I have to agree it's not the God-like Flint's best, ho hum.

Droid Life - A classic, I laughed out loud.

Dredd - Luverly, vibrant art from D'Israeli and a nice little script from Ian Edginton. I particularly liked the Tek judge's explanation of Sewell's attempted escape only for him to be hiding under the floor! And at last, a story with Blobs in it! I always wanted to see some milling about in the background as Blobbing was such a huge, drastic and downright silly fashion statement, then we never saw anymore - great to see 'em back!

Savage - Enjoying this I suppose. Noddy's hypocracy was particulalry funny and the end was cool...

AHAB - I REALLY like this. The fantastic first panel gave me flashbacks to the winning pitch from Dreddcon 1 and made me feel a little dirty! I thought the actions of Spence were particularly silly though with the end of this eisode being no big suprise. It was brill to see that little spider thingy back. I loved following that in the first episode!

Low Life - Some good stuff and some not so good stuff from Mr Flint on this episode. The story is pretty twisty though and enough to keep you guessing.

Chopper - I love Chopper but am not enjoying this story as much as others on the board (no pun intended!) I don't see the point of dragging Chopper all the way from the Radback for this, especially as I reckon that woman is taking the piss. Ace Dredd pic on page 2 though.

Right, back to bed!

General / Amazon used and new...
28 April, 2004, 06:01:02 PM
I've talked about this in Mr Dribbles' Necropolis Aid thread but I thought I'd post it here too, in case anyone missed it.

Basically, just to let people know how great Amazon's 'Used and New' section is for finding some tricky 2000ad books or getting them MUCH cheaper than on they usually go on ebay and with an awful lot less hassle.

Some examples I've seen today are the recent hard back Apocolipse War for ?8.99, Judgement Day (which has gone for a fortune on ebay) for ?4.99, the first Dredd: America for less than a fiver and GRennie's excellent Dredd vs. Death Novel for a measly ?1.24!

It's great!

General / Kal Cutter?
23 April, 2004, 01:17:25 AM
I was under the impression (I may have just dreamt this mind!) that Kal Cutter was already a cool hitman BEFORE he'd met Sin & Dex and that they were unaware of  his fancypants abilities to form guns in his hands and that. I thought this training him up business was just a ruse so that he could get close to them turn into a baddy later...

Have I made this all up in my silly head or was this hinted at when he first arrived?

Confused Pete.

WARNING, this is a post that leads to an ADULTS ONLY (though on topic) site.

Here is a very funny site that could easily contain highlights from the MC1 sex olympics!

Please don't look if easily offended!

Off Topic / Techie help
17 March, 2004, 12:49:03 AM
Sorry for the off topicness folks but I was hoping some of the techie types could help me.

Basically, I want to steal a small scene from one of my DVD's and convert it to an mpeg as part of a PowerPoint presentation.

How difficult is it to do this and what software do I need (preferably shareware).

Thanks in advance and sorry for the off topic post.

Off Topic / New AvP trailer online.
10 March, 2004, 02:12:01 PM
An exclusive Aliens vs. Predator movie trailer is here and despite my initial reservations I am quite hopeful that this will be a half decent film.

The temple in it reminds me of the one in the wonderful 'Childhood's End' Judge Anderson strip (a strip where Anderson DIDN'T go into a coma and even woke some aliens up that were - sort of!)

General / Manhunt = Buttonman?
10 February, 2004, 02:02:23 AM
I recently got (the very dodgy) Manhunt game for my trusty PS2. It's about a guy who's who becomes involved in the snuff movie industry and has to off other guys to satisfy a very sick 'voice' in his ear.

The game in it self is pretty good, involving lots of sneaking about and exceptionally gruesome killing (shards of glass in the eyes, crowbar in the head etc.)

Anyway, as I've been playing it, it's reminded me loads of good old Harry's exploits from Buttonman. I've just completed a level where I was in a deserted zoo with all these guys after me which really put me in mind of the climax of BM1.

So there we go folks, until Rebellion bring out a Button Man game, get your hands on this.
