I was going to write a similar letter to the Eye, but I decided it was such an obvious joke that surely EVERYONE would be making it.

Not a fantasy fan, but I'd have to agree with Wrly.  Although I'm not sure how much Eddings would appeal to the me in his mid (ok, late) 30s.  It appealed a LOT to me in my distant youth.

Can't fault Gormenghast though. 

Silmarillion's a very good bit of world-building, an impressive effort and a nice bit of pseudo mythology.  It's also barely readable.  Very clever, don't get me wrong, but a trial to get through.  I'd recommend a read, but you might not want to read it twice so get it from the library.

And yeah, like Emperor said - leave it at that.  LoTR is hard-going enough at times, I can't imagine his notes read any easier.

I'm dreading the whole thing, is it wrong to move out of your home city just because there's going to be a sporting event in 2 years?  I find games at Wembley annoying enough and they last one afternoon.
