Crumb? Or is that more of a biopic than a comic film?

The Enigmatic Dr X pretty much sums up my feelings. The main problem with bringing Rogue back was that the overarching plot had been resolved. Comparisons have been made with SD, but I don't think they hold any water because, while there were continuing elements, there was no central plotline running holding the strip together.

It helps that SD was usually a lot lighter in tone.

One thing that might be interesting would be a strip highlighting the loyal soldiers of Greater Nordland. They can't all be bad.

Of course, Shaving Ryan's Privates is a real film. You'll find it in any branch of Global video, alongside:

White Men Can Hump
The Sexth Sense ("I see naked lesbians.")
Lord of the G Strings
Play-Mate of the Apes
Kinky Kong
et bloody cetera

Doc Maniacus' megalomaniac banter was good fun though.

Bah. Took out a subscription last week, but no prog this morning. You have one tiny blizzard over the weekend and everything goes haywire.

Unlike say Wagner he hasn't created characters that are still proving rich ground for stories some thirty years later

John Constantine.

How's your coding?

By the standards of the rest of the people on the course I'm doing: excellent. By more realisitc standards: average. I'm not the kind of guiy who can sit down and rattle off thousands of lines of code, but I know where to find the help I need when I need it.

I'm the kind of guy who grew up with the BBC Micro and I've always had a bit of an interest in programming of one kind or another. In my last job, I basically had to teach myself VBA and develop a load of small applications to support daily business processes, so I learnt a lot there. Consequently, I'm a lot more at ease in Visual Basic than C++, but I'm working on that at the moment.

What have you got to lose?

Obviously nothing. I'm not getting myself in debt by being there, merely frittering away my dunny money,  and I am increasing my knowledge. Had I not been doing this I would probably have spent a fair bit of the year going on holidays anyway.

An interesting discussion and one that worries me at points.

About twelve years ago I dropped out of my BA and ended up working with the same company for almost the entire intervening period. Last summer I was made redundant and I am currently doing a Masters (still no first degree) in IT with a view to working in that field. Now I'm not sure if that was the right decision as I'm going to be going back into the job market competing with younger graduates some of whom will be a lot more able than me. I don't have a large amount of relevant experience to counter this with, so I am now concerned I will be serving you all your Happy Meals by the end of the year.

Art, you said you would grill applicants about coding. To what level of detail and knowledge would you expect someone to converse at an interview?

Maybe something along the lines of alternate endings like what you get in DVD box sets:
1 of 2 - Dredd reaches Texas City with the vital antigens.
2 of 2 - Dredd gets eaten by Satanus. Next Week: Judge Spikes.

Which will you get? (I admit this may cause continuity problems for non-completists.)

Or what about the same strips drawn by different artists?

;-)

Who gives a toss? The only reason I'd buy two copies of the same comic would be if they had different stories inside. And then I probably wouldn't think it was a rip off anyway.

Did anyone buy the recent DVD release of the Warriors? Have the comic strip bits been recently added??

I believe they were added (by Walter Hill) for this release. The reviews I read at the time mentioned it being shit which is why I didn't get it.

And surely he could have planned to kill Cyrus "because he likes doing things like that."

Aye. There's a brief bit about it in today's Guardian. A year to film, apparently, and it's going to be used from this weekend.
