And yet you managed to turn in pages like the clockpunk melee at Nonsuch House, one of the most wonderfully detailed and inventive dust-ups in recent 2000AD history.  Incredible.

Thanks alot Tordlback. To be honest i think I may go back to alot of the ballroom scenes to retouch once the next collection comes around. Bit peeved at myself that the backgrounds look a little bare sometimes...

Planetoid, yeah, sometimes I think to myself "why are you doing this you silly bastard? There's no need at all to detail the drawbridge! It looked bloody fine the way it was!" But by that point it's too late.

You're right--Defoe is loosely based on Bruce Willis with a bit of Ray Winstone thrown in. I'd never try and completely base a character on one sole person , as quite franky, I'm naff at likenesses.

Maybe one day in the far, far future I'll get to draw Death, but I'm actually soon starting a 2 part Dredd for the Megazine! Can't wait for that. Just needed a brief break from drawing the 17th Century before i jumped into theh next Defoe. you can check out my version of Dredd in a pencil sketch on my blog here:

Right guys, gotta get back to work. Thanks again and take care!

Hey Planetoid, thanks alot mate. Though believe me, if I could think of a way to cheat that type of stuff I would.

To give you an idea of how fast I had to do it, for a few of the last episodes I had just over 2 weeks to do each batch of 6 pages. Not remotely ideal for me (my girlfriend had to be incredibly understanding again!), but it's my own damn fault for taking my time at the beginning. For Book 4, I'm going to try my best to get ahead earlier.

I agree, that's a huge improvement Gavin. Looks alot more modern and that logo is spot on. Glad the site's sticking around.

Appreciate it mate! Tomorrow look out for my blog post where I'll be showing a "before" and "after" of some of the redrawn panels that Tharg let me do for this collected edition.

Excellent Captainskank! I won't send my army of midgets after them then...

And yeah, it'll be great to have you at Orbital's signing!

Oh, and Nomohican, I've VERY made up--John's an old,old friend of mine, and I was made up when he wrote the afterword. I tell a bit about our history at this older blog post:

Thanks again guys.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate you picking this up!

Captain Skank, You definately have a faulty copy dude. Sounds like it's missing the intro pages, credits,"The Last Leveller" intro by Pat, and nearly the whole of the first two episodes missing. Feel gutted  you have to send that back. I hope it's just a one off. I just ordered one from the Book Depository myself just to check.

Take care,

Leigh (inspiration to all female artists).

That was a great interview guys. I was all giddy listening to a trio of funny accents! I feel better knowing that I can now listen to PJ's soothing voice whenever I want, whether it's in the bath, or whenever I'm feeling lonely....
But seriously, nice job all of you!

PJ, if you were to pose in that photo, we would barely even see the top of your head....

Oh bollocks it....there I am bigging myself up and you go and post that god awful picture from two frikkin years ago! You really do hate me....

By the way, the Defoe series you're reading currently is actually Book 3. This month's 1666 trade collects the first 2 books, with the original character designs at the back as well as an afterword by John Higgins. Plus Tharg let me go back and redraw a pile of panels that I thought were looking a bit cringy...

Aah, c'mon now... you know i didn't mean it mate. Your welsh accent is INFINITELY sexier than my scouse accent!

Well OBVIOUSLY!!
I have a seriously hot wife and she cant be with me for my looks or personality so it has to be for the sexy slurring. I am like the valleys Barry White

My seriously foxy lady is with me for completely the opposite reasons as I'm ridiculously dreamy with really nice hair, but no personality and crap accent.
I am like Mersyside's Keanu Reeves....

Bugger it to hell, I still haven't seen this issue yet, but I'm made up you like the start of Defoe (I'm still chuffed about that trailer)!

PJ, thank you sincerely buddy. I'm really struggling to stop myself from humping your leg.

I mentioned this in the trailer thread, but look out for my cover for episode 4, and the new cover (a mixture of digital painting and photography) I've done for the trade coming out in August.
Thanks guys!

Oh, and to everyone who's a fan of Defoe, cheers guys, I really appreciate it. Just wait till you see the cover to episode 4...
