First of a few 2000 AD-related goodies at the old Bookshelf, which seems to get three or four times as many readers as Thrillpowered Thursday.  This time, it's the third volume of Psi-Files, including Something Wicked, Satan, and the always-controversial Crusade.  Tell yer friends!

News / Thrillpowered Thursday: the blog is back
31 January, 2013, 10:24:27 AM
Hey you guys!  Thrillpowered Thursday has resumed, with the focus now on 2009.  Today, it's how amazing Richard Elson's artwork is, and how not-amazing Steve Yeowell's artwork is.  So we've been complaining about how awful Red Seas looks for four years now!

Here's the thing.

In future installments: Zombo, Dandridge, Savage, and Tour of Duty.  I hope you enjoy them.

Last Bookshelf review for now: that whole Cold Deck/Trifecta business.  Wasn't it lovely?

Today's short review at my Bookshelf blog: the second collected edition of Savage by Pat Mills and Patrick Goddard.  I think that more people will concur with my opinion of this book.

A contentious one this week, friends.  It's the second collected edition of Shakara, which everybody liked more than I did.

This week, it's Harry Absalom, defending his manor in the first collected edition of this great comic.  Have a read!

Today's short review at my Bookshelf blog is Brass Sun.  Even as this story got lost in Trifecta's hype, it got more interesting with each passing week.  I'm looking forward to Book Two!

I finally purchased the 2010 collected edition of The Stainless Steel Rat.  It's the first in a new batch of weekly 2000 AD goodies reviewed at my Bookshelf blog.  Have a read!

Books & Comics / Legion of Super-Heroes - the 1980s run
07 October, 2012, 11:54:40 AM
Are there any LSH fans among us?  (Other than The Adventurer, I mean.)  I have begun a reread of Paul Levitz's celebrated run on the book - it's something like 90 consecutive issues - and will be blogging about it kinda-sorta like how I do Thrillpowered Thursday, but less frequently.  The first post is up now over at my Bookshelf, setting the stage and then talking about Levitz's first seven issues, from March 1982.  I hope people like it, and if you know any LSH fans, drop 'em a link!

The Galaxy's Greatest 2000 AD blog charges into action today for its autumn attack!  For the next ten weeks, we'll be looking back at what was going on throughout 2008 in the pages of the UK's top science fiction comics, 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine.  First up, a few comments about the Dredd movie, and a brief overview of how darn amazing that first lineup of 2008 was.  Plus, Shakara cutting a tyrannosaur in half.

Blood of the Iceni is the last Bookshelf review of a Galaxy's Greatest release for a couple of months.  Thrillpowered Thursday returns next week!

General / Oh, Clickwheel, oh, why...
14 September, 2012, 10:43:44 AM
Is it time to start using the online shop exclusively now?  I ask because I purchased prog 1800 from Clickwheel this morning, and it doesn't offer a link button for either the CBR or the PDF.  Worse, I typed a support request, and when I hit send, I got this error message: "Sorry, the page you've requested could not be found. Please use the links above to access this website."

Come on, guys, I've paid my money, lemme read the prog.

Other Reviews / Day of Chaos over at my Bookshelf
10 September, 2012, 09:57:04 AM
This week's review is a summary of what went down when Borisenko screwed everything up.  I probably missed a lot; I kept remembering incidents as I was writing.  That is one incredibly dense story.  I wish I could find the time to shut out everything and just spend a few hours rereading it in one go.

Other Reviews / Judge Anderson over at my Bookshelf
05 September, 2012, 07:18:36 AM
This week's Bookshelf 2000 AD review is The Psi-Files Volume 2, the second in the chronological collection of the Anderson: Psi Division series.  It has Mind of Edward Bottlebum in it!  I love that story!

Other Reviews / Nikolai Dante over at the Bookshelf
28 August, 2012, 08:03:44 AM
I have some 2000 AD features scheduled for the next few weeks while taking a break from Thrillpowered Thursday that y'all may enjoy.  First up: a few words about Dante's final (published) adventure.  More where this came from!

Actually, the really great thing is that we're still going to debate "what happened next" forever.  Ten years from now, people will still be starting threads asking whether he married Jena.

This week!  The post you have all been waiting for!  The tale so important that it deserves its own thread!  It's the tragic, peek-behind-the-scenes story of Samantha Slade's farewell outing, the short, cliffhanging, goodbye of "I, Jailbird," and Ian Gibson's departure from the Galaxy's Greatest Comic.  Read the sad story, share it, hit me with some link love, let me know what you think... and let that Betelgeusian bampot Tharg know what you think, too!

Thrillpowered Thursday is back for July and August! For the next eight weeks, I'll be looking at various stories and things from 2000 AD's 30th birthday year of 2007, which is the year that I started that blog. In other words, the snake's begun eating its tail. First up, a not-entirely-positive look at a weird one-off episode of Flesh...

While taking a break from Thrillpowered Thursday, I'll be running a few features over at my Bookshelf blog.  First up this month is the first collection of Ampney Crucis Investigates.  Check it out and spread the word, won't you?

Hi everybody

When I started the Thrillpowered Thursday blog about five years ago, my meager design skills and Blogger's templates didn't allow me much room in making a good-looking banner, so I made a crummy collage and typed over it.  As time's worn on, it looks worse and worse every day, and I have no clue how to fix it.

Would anybody like to create a punchy new banner and logo for the blog?  I really would like for it to pop and look vibrant for once.
