Jonathan Boakes' The Lost Crown: Ghost Hunting Adventure
Jonathan Boakes is a video game designer and writer and in spare time, ghost hunter and investigator of paranormal phenomena. I suppose it was natural to him to make a horror point n click adventure that deals with these subject. And here's The Lost Crown, which he did with the help of the makers of Barrow Hill. The maain character, Nigel Danvers (Boakes alter-ego; Boakes provides the voice for his protagonist as well) arrives in a small, harbor (fictional) town of Saxton in the search for the crown, thought to be lost, that is told in ancient legends. And like always, the town is not really what it seems and apparently, some characters that Nigel interacts with, seem to be - deceased. The Lost Crown is a solid adventure; entertaining adventure for sure, and creepy as hell for it. It employs stark black n white imagery, while few objects are in vivid colors. Not to mention surrounding fog, that for my money, and considering significant ambiguity presented in the game, makes it as if you play it in Nigel dreams. If there is something that I had issue with, is the very slow pacing, which like in the case of Barrow Hill, involves a painfully lot of backtracking and interacting with every possible object you can find (even though the solution is right in front of you), which sometimes results in me loosing my nerves and going to online walkthrough. The game does require steely concentration.
