Thanks for the heads up on 'Extermination' Adventurer, looks pretty, pretty good.

O Lucky Stevie!

2000 AD #1777 - Age of the Wolf II... feels flaws. Amazing art, great premises (Werewolf Apocalypse) but something just feels rushed about it. I don't know. I think I'll have more to say about it after it concludes.

Short shipped FFS...

Regardless  PROG 1778, MEG 322, JUDGE DREDD COMPLETE CASE FILES TP VOL 19 & MEGA CITY UNDERCOVER VOL 02 all arrived safely.

Also for Stevie this week:

ACTION COMICS #10
ANIMAL MAN #10
DIAL H #2
FURY MAX #3
RED LANTERNS #10
STORMWATCH #10
SWAMP THING #10
(what with major crossover with Animal Man looming Stevie thought it best to dip his toe in the bayou again)

Speaking of which, grabbed this puppy that somehow was missed last week:

ANIMAL MAN ANNUAL #1

Clearly Stevie just isn't used to trawling through those itsy sardines that Our Allies are wont to printing their funny books on.

Was also mighty, mighty  tempted by EXTERMINATOR #1 but aren't in a position to adding another title to the ol' pull list at the moment.*

*Doubtlessly a new monthly by say John Smith, Al Ewing, Pat Mills or Alec Worley would make short shrift of that pledge.  ;)
"We'll send all these nasty words to Aunt Jane. Don't you think that would be fun?"

Colin YNWA

Nice set of comics in my bag this week. A few exceptions. GI Combat is getting cancelled after just two issues. How can something featuring soldiers fighting dinosaurs be so deadly dull. Awful stuff, even an okay back can fix it. Two DC annuals that weren't bad but not great, Batman felt lightweight, and Animal was fine but filler. Rockeeter Adventures had a stella line-up but was weakest of the bunch so far, by some distance, shame.

Popeye while not as good as the last one was fun. I just love Batwing It hardly original but such fun as are Animal Man (best issue yet?) and Swamp Thing and Justice League International. Great to have Zorro rides again back, this series has been on fire since Snyder got on art, great stuff. I'm really pleased that Green Arrow saw Ann Nocenti writing with the flare and imagination of her Daredevil run, hope this is a sign of things to come as this one was close to the chop. Earth 2 for all the fuss about Green Lantern had a lot to offer besides and was quite superb, as was Action Comics which is getting better and better and the interaction between the Justice League was worth the price alone.

Got the first of my new spread my wings books and it feels like a keeper already Creator Owned Comics is Clint done right and if anybody see it I'd suggest picking it up. Great to see a book like this being produced. For all that good stuff, as I've said elsewhere, Mudman is still however the best thing I read. Quite brilliant.

The Adventurer

I've been hearing good things about Creator Owned Heroes, so I'm sort of kicking myself for passing on it (pull list... overwhelming). American Muscle sounds really awesome. But I've never really been a fan of Phil Noto and Steve Niles.

and Mudman was pretty great. If only it would come out regularly.

My Pulls
2000 AD #1779
2000 AD #1780
2000 AD #1781 - A lot of very interesting things are going down in 2000 AD right now. The end of Nikolia Dante, Judge Dredd Day of Chaos (with PHENOMENAL artwork by Henry Flint. Just check out that 2000 AD 1780 cover. Divine.) And yes... THEY ARE HERE.
CONAN THE BARBARIAN #5 - Last issue for me, I want to like Conan comics. But... just not feeling it.
DEMON KNIGHTS #10 - My last issue. I thought last issue was, but apparently I preordered 10 too. Not a bad series, but it just didn't make the cut.
INVINCIBLE #92
JUDGE DREDD MEGAZINE #323 - The best part about this issue is the reprint of Harry Kipling (Deceased) its bundled with. That was such a great series.
LEGION LOST #10 - With The Culling over lets see what Sir Tom DeFalco can do with this book without editorial interfering crossovers.
PLANETOID #1 - Read this a while back when it was published Digitally. Worth double dipping on is all I'm going to say.
RESURRECTION MAN #10 - Apparently DC is cancelling this series with issue 12 (or rather issue 0 after issue 12). Sad to see it go, its the last non-Legion New 52 title I was reading.
SAUCER COUNTRY #4
THE MASSIVE #1 - The prequel for this that ran through Dark Horse Presents didn't light my world on fire
THE SHADE #9 (OF 12) - First issue of Frazer Irving's arc. LOVE that guy's artwork.

Speaking of 'The Massive' (well you do briefly and I'll be picking up issue 1 on my next run to the shop as it sounds really interesting) Garry Brown who did a couple of lovely covers for the galaxies Greatest last year seems to be taking over the art in issue 4. Another plus for me.

What a  proper Betelguesian barrel load of Alex Worley, Art Wyatt, Alan Grant, Al Ewing, Brendan McCarthy, Carlos Ezquerra, Colin MacNeill, Henry Flint, Jock, John Burns, John Smith, John Wagner, Jon Davis-Hunt, James McKay, Patrick Mills, Robbie Morrison & Si Spurrier-shaped biscuits of delicious thrillpower for Stevie at his LCS this week!

Creator Owned Comics is Clint done right

Oddly enough, these were Stevie's very own thoughts when this was solicited.

What is Stevie thinking right now Colin?
"We'll send all these nasty words to Aunt Jane. Don't you think that would be fun?"

The Adventurer

I ended up liking The Massive #1 much more then the prequel stuff that ran in DHP.

My only real problem with it, is that seems to want to tie climate change (human caused or otherwise) to increased tectonic activity. Which... really don't have a lot to do with each other. UNLESS its being implied that increased tectonic activity is causing the shift in the climate change, which could happen. Except the book is pretty clearly pointing out things humans have done to the environment to cause this catastrophe..

I guess I'll wait to see if the book further clarifies its situation in the coming months.

Ummmmmm... fracking, anyone?

If you're saying that an increase in naturally occurring fracturing due to increased occurrences of large earthquakes accelerating global climate change, I'd buy it as a doomsday scenario. However  humans causing fracturing to mine natural gas will never lead to in increase in world wide tectonic activity. That's not how it works.

Melting polar caps won't cause an increase in Earthquakes. More Earthquakes might cause polar caps to melt though, but that wouldn't be a human caused disaster it would be entirely natural.

Oh absolutely agreed on that point. Stevie was merely attempting to apply Comic Book Superscience* to the scenario. Even hypotheising uplifting of the Antarctic Plate due to melting polar caps wouldn't (ahem) was as the both ice would have merely changed state as opposed to  mass.

*aka the bane of many a skiffy comic. Bah.

Now I really should read the comic before commenting BUT ya know its on my pull list so will when I get to my LCS so that's close enough right!

Anyway could it not be the combination of both? Tectonic movement shifting continents to a position that is more conducive to climactic change, which does happen and the human damage accelerating and exaggerating that change?

The Adventurer

Eh. The comic does seem to suggest a combination of factors, but from a real world standpoint if there was enough world wide seismic activity to erupt new volcanoes, and kill off huge swashes of undersea life with shock-waves, the damage we've done as a species would be minor in the face that change.

Basically I fear the comic will be TOO alarmist in the face of a real world crisis (global climate change). Or rather what they use as the tipping point is too unlikely, or too over shadowing of the environmental impact by man.

But again, this  just he first issue, and the way they explain what's happening to the world is a little vague. Also, not the main thrust of the series, its more about surviving the worsening disaster regardless of cause.
