General / Underappreciated droids appreciation thread
30 October, 2023, 10:29:29 PM
This post was inspired by I comment I made on the 77-2000AD Facebook group this morning. Somebody mentioned Jose Casanovas, and I replied that he was one of those artists who never really got as much love from fans as I feel he deserved. His art probably wasn't to everyone's taste, but I could always recognise his style even before I looked at the credit card.

Anyway, I thought I would create a thread dedicated to all those writers and artists in 2000AD and related titles who are probably never going to get an Apex Edition of their work. Apologies if a similar thread already exists, but I couldn't find one.

News / John Smith interview in Tripwire
07 April, 2023, 09:30:32 PM
https://tripwiremagazine.co.uk/headlines/tripwire-talks-to-2000ad-and-vertigo-writer-john-smith/

I may as well come out and say it: I had previously thought that Kenneth Niemand was John Smith writing under a pseudonym. I won't go into my reasons for thinking that, let's just say that I had put 2 and 2 together and made 5. From this interview, it doesn't look like Smith is keen to return to the prog any time soon. Contrary to popular belief, he seems quite happy for Kek-W to have taken over Indigo Prime after his departure, but he's clearly not a fan of Ales Kot's work on Devlin Waugh.

News / Pageturners (CW: contains Pat Mills)
21 November, 2022, 08:44:16 PM
I know any mention of Uncle Pat's name here tends to provoke a flame war, but I am looking forward to his next book, Pageturners: Comics and the Craft of Writing, a revised and expanded version of his blog posts on the subject. However uncomfortable you may be at his flirtations with antisemites and Putin tankies, there's no denying that he has a wealth of knowledge regarding comic writing and the comics industry. I'm sure there will be plenty of valuable insights here.

Books & Comics / Joker's second appearance
01 August, 2008, 04:41:13 PM
I keep reading in publicity for The Dark Knight that the character of The Joker in the movies was based on his first two appearances in the comics. I know that his first appearance was in Batman #1, but when was his second appearance? And does anyone know where I can find plot synopses for both stories? I have tried Googling "Joker comicography" and variations thereof, but to no avail.

Every other messageboard on the interweb has a thread on this question, so I don't see why 2000AD Online should be any different.

Books & Comics / Need scanned images
10 January, 2006, 02:53:35 AM
A Judge Tex script by me has been commissioned (again) by the new improved Zarjaz zine. Trouble is, the artist has no idea what Judge Tex looks like. My scanner is buggered at the moment, so does anyone happen to have a scanned image of Tex from the Luna 1 saga? Also, I used Judge Che (who appeared in a single panel of Full Earth Crimes, Prog 58, drawn by Mike McMahon) as a supporting character. I'd be grateful for any scans of these characters, so I can forward them to the artist.

Film & TV / Guilty pleasures
10 June, 2005, 03:06:11 AM
OK, new topic: films you really shouldn't like but do.  I have just started watching National Treasure on DVD (watched the first half last night, got tired and went to bed, hope to complete it tonight) and find it so jaw-droppingly, mind-bogglingly stupid that I can't help but enjoy it.  Any other films that people enjoy in spite of their better judgement?
