A couple of the most memorable moments for me came in the final frames of some of my favourative old 2000ad stories. Who can forget Blackhawk and Co fading away or Ace Garp taking the Nightlight Flight (Okay, technically this wasn't the end of Ace's story but we didn't know that at the time). Outside of this thread, Another great moment was in Portrait of a Mutant, when my namesake Middenface shouts out defiantly "We'll gi'e thae scunnerin' Kreelers laldy an' nae mistake!"

I agree with Matt. Not only is Slaine a great example of the Celtic hero, he actually had many adventures with the great Celtic/British heroes on his travels - Bodicia, Arthur, William Wallace and even taking on the Robin Hood role.

I absolutely agree. There's nothing wrong with expressing a positive opinion when 2000ad has had a good run. It encourages more of the same.

Damn! If that's true then it's a shame. That was a good idea and there were plenttly more 2000ad characters who deserved immortalising in that way.

40/50 & 40/50 for me. Strangly enough, they were not the same questions I got wrong for one that I got wrong for the other.

A man after my own heart, at least on the second point. They should never have stopped those Daily Star or Preacher stories.

I think that if you want to have a truly great hero, he has to has a good well rounded personality. You have to see all aspects of his character - the good and the bad. Also, he has to develop over time. With Dredd, we have this: a great lawman who can be brutal, but also show compassion occasionally. Can uphold the spirit as well as the letter of the law. From his beginnings as a shoot-em-up cop we have seen much development in his character and we can relate to the situations/storylines, although based in a sci-fi world of the fututre. All in all, Dredd has a good claim to be a great hero, although other characters have a strong claim also - Johnny Alpha springs to mind.

I agree with scojo; I likedd the Daily Star Judge Dredd reprints. Are there any more, because if there is, I wouldn't mind having them in the Megazine. Another point - why did the Preacher strip stop appearing in tthe Meg. I thought there was going to be more - I like Dillon's artwork.

What's Burt doing at the moment...

I do know that Judges have certain civil powers: they can perform marriage ceremonies and have the power to declare couples divorced if needs be. As for lawyers: I have read many Judge Dredd stories where sleazy lawyers defend their criminal clients during investigations (mostly to no avail). With so much crime and criminals in Mega-City One, it's only logical for there to be loads of lawyers.

If I may give my opinion...
It becomes clear in the final episode that Dredd was never intended to be killed. He was 'targeted' in order that Armon could be captured in order that he could gain admission to the Cursed Earth Correctional Facility so he could kill Bubba O'Kelly (who was about to expose his connection to De Klerk. De Klerk knew that Dredd would try to capture Armon rather than kill him, as he wanted to find out who was behind 'the Justice Killer'. Armon had to give a good account of himself, even to the extent of taking those pills - he had to appear as if he would commit suicide rather than be captured. So, from the start - both De Klerk and Armon never intended Dredd any harm. I hope this clears up this matter.
