The basic structure would make for intriguing telly, and you could get around the issue of no ongoing characters (well, one) by having an Arrow-style flashback thread following Seldon's life, and maybe even R-Daneel.

This will actually give me a reason to subscribe to HBO. I will be watching out for this eagerly. I just hope they stick to the story and not try to improvise with needless murders or violence and such.

If it's the GoT route they want then it'll need more than just violence. I don't recall Asimov being a particularly good sexy time writer.

I've been hoping HBO would do a major treatment of classic SF. And it really is the only way to bring great works to the screen. Been saying as much for a Dredd series for ages.

Finally read this in a fancy hardback (trilogy) a few weeks back, so interested in this. I imagine an I, Claudius feel, it's more talking-heads and affairs of state than anything else I can think of. Done properly, with some anachronisms expunged, could be a treat...

I think that might be the way it goes. It's high time SF was treated more seriously in general. We now live in a world that has surpassed so much that was once SF and seemingly impossible.

Maybe this will be more House of Cards than Game of Thrones....or somewhere between.

I'm sure it'll be fine even though it's sci-fi.  Battlestar Galactica was a show about sex robots and people took that seriously enough that the owners of the Stargate franchise derailed and destroyed their cash cow trying to emulate it, while a generation of kids have grown up thinking that superheroes - Wolverine in particular - are not ludicrous, inherently childish concepts for enabling juvenile power fantasies but deadly serious fictional endeavors that explore the politics of our age.

Game of Cards?

I'm so very, very, sorry.

House of Cards. I like the series, particularly series 1. The mention of I, Claudius made me think of it. Strong links between the two...some say it's one and the same....not sure that's fare though. Not everyone's 'culpa' ...I suppose....

TBH I nearly wrote Game of Cards the first time and had to check if I'd done so after your comment!  :P

Asimov never really dealt with sex at all. If HBO wanted sex, they should have gone with Heinlein. I don't think the world could handle Heinlein's brand of incestuous eroticism just yet though.
