Books & Comics / Re: Star Wars Omnibus
22 April, 2011, 02:49:02 PM
Black horse reprinted the best of marvel Star Wars in 5 paperbacks in black & White wiith odd conceptual art on the cover on them. From memory thrynwere incentive books which you had to order other comics to get.

I had a couple of the five. They had the 'whatever happened to jabber the hutt' story line where he was still a walrus type man. The classic one is when they have a flashback and Ben and luke's dad fight together clearly not anticipating fader was his dad. I love the continuity gaps and big rabbits.

I think this is why mat smith is a brilliant editor.

It's clear that there's a roster of good dredd writers but only Wagner is allowed to advance the overall character / plot.

It stops undue pressure on Wagner but still brings on new talent. The only question the the proportion of writing. Al ewings recent 8 parter was pretty successful so I'm happy.

2000ad is savvy enough to know no matter what the film does it won't increse sales of the weekly (merchandise and trades are a diff matter) . So I think it's a pretty rosy situation. And I think based on the dredd script we will get a sequel.

Amazingly cheap rail in advance 36 pound return! Or 215 on the day!

Hi guys

I've got the first dredd chronicles and abc warriors in hardback I nthe original titan editions.
It says on the back that vol 2 McMahon also appears in hb can anyone confirm this?
Did the abc vol 2 co eout as hb?
Also the judge child in hb. I know a couple of you said these had loose pages but was it the hb editions.

I am referring to the original issued books not the deluxe range which has horrible over printing.

I think the cellar of dredd has the answers - are there guided tours (I m quite serious)?

For the dads out there I would say that Bristol / Bham = day out at Blackpool, and & kapow = Disneyland.

It was faster, relentless, much better tied in to other media but just on a whole new scale. You had to wait longer but you got to see much bigger names but ultimately spend less time with them.

I sat in the millarworld panel full 750 seats and standing, 2000ad had  a 500 seated less than a third full. So first of all miller has turned is into a movement. He has spotted the tv link I hadn't MASSIVE queues for Skins and Merlin (who would have thought).

deep down I'm still rather fond of blackpool, it's familiar, safe and still pulls in the crowds but this was a whole new level and I hope it continues next year as it has the best chance of getting comics to a new audience. You had to choose what to do and stick with it or risk seeing nothing. but the overall experience was quite overwhelming. I do now consider millar to have the influence in the 10s that 2000ad had in the 80s. He has a real zeitgeist of cynical, optioned in advance but well structured comics...

Hi chief
Good to meet you in the 2000ad panel. Loved your books. Hope you keep doing them. Mat

But didn't McMahon do extra pages for these to fill the books?
#642
Thanks guys.

You've confirmed my thinking and suddenly the Titan books look very collectable. I remember they seemed expensive at4.99 in the 80's. Obviously they were done to a high standard. :P

Hi fella

Firstly having a book already by the artist / writer is always good form unless the event is to sell a certain product like a forbidden planet signing.

Creators rarely sign at talks but will direct you afterwards to a signing in the lobby or at table X.

So turn up with your books and frankly pat mills is lovely and would sign for you anywhere including the bar. So bring all your books and relax - you will get them signed mostly likely straight after the talk.

Creators are usually lovely slightly drunk people - I've never had abad experience in 16 years...

I've got the original Judge Death bollard story in 3 diff formats

Hardback Titan Judge Dredd 1983 first chronicles
hardback Titan Judge Dredd 2001 silver and black 14.99 cover - that deluxe type b&q book series
Case files

The original Titan book is the only version that reprints the letter tone and greys nicely.

does anyone know why? Did the transparencies go missing? The 2001 looks horribly over printed by comparison...
