Welcome to the board / Re: Hello and bonjour!

Hi, and many thanks for your responses !

Smallbluething: Gosh near porno alley ? Well, sounds interesting,  better be lost there than somewhere else.

Emperor: thanks for your detailed response. This US version indeed contains an extra bit, Volgo the Ultimate Death machine from Dice Man 2 (role playing game). When in London next week end I will check if there is a uk paperback on the shelves, and keep this US version until then.

Whizzbank: thanks, I was aware of this interview (I try to be up to date about Pat Mills activity for posting news on my blog and the french Requiem Vampire Knight website). And yes, there is more Mills stuff on the french market than anybody else.

Thanks again to all.

I 've received today from amazon.co.uk "A.B.C. Warriors The Black Hole" which I have order a few month ago (released date December 8th on their site), even before this paperback was released in the USA (August 16th) by Simon and Shuster. My problem is Amazon.uk has sent me the S&S August print (which is presented as 1st printed edition in the credits page). I was expected the uk edition, the third print if I'm not mistaken.

For I don't live in England and so couldn't check in book stores, I would like to know if it's a mistake from amazon (but my copy has the same ISBN as the one described on their site)?  Or perhaps there were no "black hole" paperback scheduled in December in the UK (also an Amazon mistake but in that case I could be willing to keep the book).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Once you've posted a naked picture of your missus, then those limitation are lifted.
Thy missus sadly won't (your loss). But as proof of my good will here is an unpublished picture of Clint Langley's Sláine (from the french edition, absent from the uk paperback if I'm not mistaken):

Hello, and welcome (I'm new too).

I can recommend you Defoe (two paperbacks sor far) by Pat Mills and Leigh Gallagher. It's kind of a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with non fictional characters (but fictionnal events of course). It is sets in 1666 during the great plague (here a plague of Zombies) and it features Isaac Newton, Oliver Cromwell, Madame La Voisin and much more.

Many thanks to all of you.

In two weeks I will pass the weekend in London. I always use my free time between two museum to search for british comics, back issues of the Meg, 2000AD or Crisis as well as old Titan paperbacks (yes I know nowadays everything could be found on ebay but, call me old fashion, it still a great pleasure for me to do a litttle digging in book stores). So I wonder if someone on the board knows some good spots appart the obvious comics shops (FP, Gosh). For example, a fear years ago I've found some copies of Toxic! in a library above a underground station near Nottinghill market but I don't remember what's station or what street.

Thanks in advance for your help (or pointing me to the right section of the board if the topic already exists)

Hello and thanks for your reception.

Lee, it would be hard to respond to your question because the way it goes here where each episode of a regular series comes out once a year at best. And when a series knows success, it keep it throughout the entire run (often decades). Besides, these days you probably read more french market comics than I because I hardly have the time to keep up with 2000AD, the megazine or other english spoken comics or paperbacks.

Colin, at the moment I'm still only familiar with Pat Mills related material but I will keep your question in mind for the future.

More than 20 years ago, when Sláine and ABC Warriors was first published in colour (horned god, Kronicles of Khaos) there were an atempt to published 2000AD material in hardcover deluxe format (which is simply the standard in France or Belgium where softcover are reserved for news stands). Sláine lasted 11 books and the ABC 5 books, both over a decade. Previously, in short news stand format we had the chance from time to time to stumble upon a Dredd series, Robohunter or Charley's War (its was more a translation of eagles comics colour reprint for Dredd and Robohunter). Also the firts book of Halo Jones and Dr & Quinch were published at that time in single oversized volume.
Recently, Nickel Edition, which is the home of Requiem Vampire Knight, has resumed the publication of Sláine (since the book of invasions + reprints of the past album following the Rebellion reprints). It's not chauvinism to say that these editions are even nicer than the excellent Rebellion HC (oversized book and Clint Langley himself has dealt with the art direction including a bit of extra material). Soleil Editions for their part have resumed the publication of the ABC warriors with the volgan war (same Rebellion material except the oversize format and the covers).
Last month, the firts volume of Charley's War was published in a Deluxe edition (following the Titan reprints whith more material source) with an excellent media reception.
Also following the recent "complete" Rebellion reprints, Alan Moore material (Future Shocks, Halo Jones, Dr & Quinch) and the Dredd complete case files (the 2 firts volume) has reached the French comics shops. For Dredd it is too soon to say if the publisher (Soleil) will continue.

But you are right to say that the European market is massive. For example, when a Marvel or DC comic sells 100000 copies at 2 or 3$, it is nowadays sees as a success. In France some hits (Asterix, XIII) sells ten times more at 10€.

Hello, I'm Rémy, I'm from France and a newly happy subscriber for 2000AD and the megazine for 11 weeks now (couldn't wait a couple of years to read the American Reaper paperback). I'm particularly a huge fan of mister Pat Mills works and I've been a compulsive collector of his books in English or French for more than 20 years now. Let the thrill begins!
