Oh nevermind, it shows up when I try a different browser so must be Chrome thing.

Nice work! Looks like you have plenty of space to play with on that page. Love the texture on the hair in the larger panel.

John Charles has been a good match for Yeowell on SinDex in recent times but, bloody hell, those black and white pages are gorgeous.

Really enjoyed this year's instalment, I might add. I'd like to see more but, if nothing else, I hope it continues as a Halloween special for many years to come.

This is what I was talking about with the low-res thing. These are from the last page of Black Beth where you can see the difference in line quality between the art and lettering, though it only happens on that page as DaNi's lines are clear on the previous ones.

Not a huge issue or anything, and probably not something you might even notice if you're not looking at it with an artist's eye, just a curious occurrence.

I was wondering if it was perhaps an error that was caught at some point into the print run, since I hadn't seen anyone mention it. No idea if that's logistically likely, though.

I'll snap some pics when I get the chance (regret to say I don't own it yet - this was whilst flicking through in Smiths yesterday!)

Anyone notice any print quality issues with random pages throughout the special? It's as if a couple of them were printed from lower resolution files and so the artwork is very pixilated, such as the last page of Black Beth, although - bizarrely - the balloons and speech on that page suffer NO drop in quality from the previous so I can only assume something happened with the art file at the lettering stage?

I don't have it to hand to point out all of the instances of this but I noticed it on probably 2 or 3 pages throughout.

Do anyone know what is the difference between the different editions ? I bought the original edition

The paper stock is different and it makes a vast difference to the artwork. Almost feels like the colours have bee laid down directly onto the paper rather than reproduced.

I was at the 41 years of 2000AD panel when you said after you'd won you hope you didn't die before the prog came out

I misspoke, I actually meant that I developed an irrational fear that I'd die before I submitted the artwork... I could live with dying before it saw print because I'd have still been in it, then, but I had visions of a heart attack as my finger hovered over the "send email" button lol.

Best of luck next year then, mate. I can personally recommend sharpening your skills with FutureQuake Press in the meantime, they're a great bunch to work with.

Hey Sinx. I wasn't there for this year's final but I was the winner of last year's competition so I thought I'd chip in and say that I whole-heartedly agree with your comments about how valuable the feedback given to all contestants is, as a developing artist. I was encouraging people who came to my table at the weekend to sit in the audience, even if they didn't get through, as you really learn a lot about storytelling strengths and weaknesses.

Interesting to see, though, that they apparently judged multiple pages this year? I believe it's only been a single page (usually the first) in the past so that's a new element that can either work in your favour (consistency) or against you, depending on how it goes.

As you mentioned lettering, let me share my own technique I use as someone who - at the point of entering the competition - had a bit of trouble, myself, with not always leaving quite enough room. What I've done is create a page template with a font size that matches what's in the prog and then I copy and paste the dialogue from Tharg's scripts into the panels so that I know exactly much room I need. That sounds like something that would eat up unnecessary time but I've found it helps a lot with figuring panel layouts because then you can see what space you have on the page and move stuff around to best fit, so that's how I approach the composition now.

Congrats to the winner, Tony if I recall from Twitter and best of luck if you decide to enter again in 2019!

It's a shame that so much discussion about Rebellion's motives and the new name suggestions etc went on before Su had made the statement/announcement, which she'd said was coming. People are free to react to things, of course (and it was publicly announced that they weren't allowed to use the Dredd name/imagery anymore) but I bet it made things a lot more stressful for her than it needed to be!

From what I've heard (from the comic's history, not anything to do with the creators involved) it could be issues with deadlines. I know that the single-issue Sinister Dexter stories are often used to plug those gaps.

Also at Thought Bubble later in the year. Was very surprised to be accepted for a table! Also hoping to be within waving distance of FQP *waves*

Really liked the new creator article written by FQP alumnus Karl Stock, featuring FQP alumni Steve Austin & Paul Williams. That alongside everything written by FQP alumnus Rory McConville.

Also liked the mention in Cyber-Matts editorial of the arrival of FQP alumnus Nico Assirelli, too.

There's some kind of link there that I can't quite put my finger on... ;p

My review is over on the 2000 AD and beyond site here: https://2000adandbeyondsite.wordpress.com/2017/12/10/2000ad-prog-2061-review-2/

For my own amusement, I've compared each thrill to a Christmas song to give an indication of my thoughts and enjoyment of each!

Enjoyed! XD
Thanks for that.
