Also worthy of praise is Mezolith - damned good.

Now that one caught my eye in Sheffield Space Centre the other day. I've been meaning to investigate further so good to hear a recommendation.

Fuck. How did I forget to mention that? I really feel Cooke excelled himself in the second volume, and he out-Chris Ware's Chris Ware.
He's only trying to be what following how his dreams make you wanna be, man!

grandville mon amour - brilliant
Good manners & bad breath get you nowhere

BUY IT! IT IS FANTASTIC!

And has the best art you will see in a comic all year. Ignore the "it's for kids" cloud over it- it's for the same kids who read 2000AD in the early eighties. Bits are bloody unsettling.

Cool that and that really interesting article that Peter posted have got this book bought. Nice one!

Another vote for Mezolith. It's my favourite non 2000ad comic this year.

It's got that same folk-lorey, dream like feel as Hellboy but with more weird horror elements. Parts are genuinely chilling.

I met the artist at Thoughtbubble too. Lovely chap. He signed my copy and drew a little sketch inside for me.
Raised in the wild by sarcastic wolves.

Previously known as L*e B*tes. Sshhh, going undercover...

Strontium Claw

I've just ordered Mezolith thanks for the recomendations.
I had never heard of the DFC or Mezolith until it was mentioned in the Megazine a while back and meant to check it out,
there aren't enough comics set in the stone age!

I wanted to buy a copy of Mezolith today but of course the comic shop in my locality didnt have it in stock and hadnt heard of it and was saying something about it not being translated into English or something like that.I didnt know WTF they were talking about as others here dont seem to have had a problem with this.

Try Waterstones- my local one has two copies. Never ask the idiots in comic shops anything beyond "do you have a copy of- ?", is my motto.

I have bought it on Ebay now as i dont have the patience to go round any more shops that dont have what i want or pratting around with people that work in shops that dont know what i am talking about and that cant answer my questions.

I have bought off the Ebay seller before so i know they are reliable but thanks for the advice anyway.

Well picked up 'Mezolith' this morning from my LCS and started to flick through it while our little 'un had her afternoon nap next thing you know bugger-lugs is awake and I've finished the book. Great stuff indeed and I can now heartily echo the recommendations that others have made here. Fantastic, evocative stuff.

Emperor

Another best of list:

Forbidden Planet have done a long series of best of 2010 with a whole range of people:

Droids include Book Cook and D'Israeli (also includes some sneaky peeks at what they might be doing next year):

Ian Culbard's Mountains of Madness keeps coming up and I have it here, so I should start it. I'm usually so far behind in my reading I'm still catching-up on 2008 and 2009 comics ;)
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Emperor

And it wouldn't be an end of year retrospective thread without... the 5 worst comic books of 2010, so obvious candidates as they caused widespread shock and awe at the time, but a possibly surprising "winner" (I thought the Rise of Arsenal had this one in the bag):
