News / Sci-Fi Special 2018 - Cover
08 June, 2018, 02:01:50 PM
Was going to resurrect the previous thread, but it turned out to be filled with pages of pestilence and bile so here's a new one.

No idea who Tula Lotay is, but that's an absolutely cracking cover.

Story on Down the Tubes

Got done other stuff I'm trying to find a home for.

Northlanders. Full set of all 8 (or 9, I forget) trades.

Hellblazer. The full original Garth Ennis run. Think that's 41 -82 roughly.

Not looking for much for these but postage might be hefty so let's call it 15 quid for each.

Classifieds / Boxes of free Megazines in Glasgow
13 February, 2018, 01:24:37 PM
Anybody out there interested in a pile of JD Megazines for the princely sum of nothing? Or a bottle of wine, which is roughly what I paid for the first 250 of them!

I think I have issues 1 - 340 or so. Three or four magazine boxes full anyway.

If you come and pick them up from my house in the south of Glasgow, you can even keep the boxes.

Only catch is it really needs to be this week.

Everybody else was starting a thread with the same title and I didn't want to feel left out.

Website and Forum / IP Blocking
03 May, 2017, 11:01:50 AM
How's it going web droids? I've been having a lot of issues with the site since the last upgrade to the shop. Now it looks like you're blocking my home IP address.

I can't even access the forum from any device, but once I connect to my work remote network, everything is hunky dory. As an interesting(ish) sidebar to this, the 2000AD shop is blacklisted when I'm actually in the office but, under these circumstances, it's also fine!

If someone on your side can help, I can send the IP details.

Cheers, Cosh.

Hi guys. Like it says in the title. A few weeks ago I noticed that the price of digital Progs has gone way up in the iOS app. At first I just assumed this was just a general price rise. Then I finally bothered to check and I see that I'm paying 10% more for a digital prog than the physical cover price. It's gone up to £2.99 from £2.29, compared to £2.65 in WH Smiths.

What's going on? Surely that's not how this is supposed to work?

Games / Are there bigger issues in the WH40K Universe?

Seems PETA's corporate projects manager has finally engaged with one of the biggest offenders in the world of fantasy wargaming.

An open letter to Games Workshop.

Spotted this in the recent Previews and it sounds like a winner and an exciting new entry in the evergreen "what to recommend a new reader" threads.

Droids past and present introduce their favourite one-offs.

Prog / Prog 1996 - Fatherland
27 August, 2016, 11:22:43 AM
The familiar thump on the doorstep propelled me out of bed.

A mean and moody cover from Paul Davidson which my first, sleep-addled glance mistook for the return of Ian Gibson. Most of the stories are in mid-flow so it's all about where they're going.

This most excellent of Dredd stories continues apace as our hero once again outwits Justice Department's finest. With all the extra little bits being brought in I've no idea how this will be wrapped up in three short episodes. As some readers already commented about previous episodes, this is the best Carlos art for years as well.

More spectacular D'Israeli art in Scarlet Traces. This seems to have turned into a whistle-stop tour of Edginton's Venus without much plot to drive it but the stops along the way are interesting.

The unexpected and very welcome return of Jaegir gives us a quick recap and sets the scene for some very different adult-child relationships to come.

Scarlet Traces continues.

I'm a bit lost about who is controlling who in Anderson but it's been a strong story so far so I hope it can end well.

Hi web dudes. Hope you can help out here.

I was looking at the digital subscriptions available through the Rebellion Portal but it seems to want to set the currency/price based on my location rather than my account billing address and it doesn't look like there is anywhere for me to set this option in the account settings.

At home, it defaults to EUR and in the office it's USD. In both cases, this is wrong. If it was picking up my location correctly it should be CHF, but I would've expected it to be GBP, like the 2000ad shop, based on my billing details.

Should I just figure out which is cheapest for me and do it from there?

Was trying to find a pen with some wet ink in it and came out with a chain link remover and a hacksaw instead. My job is developing financial planning software.

How about you? Before anyone tries it, doublers of football stickers aren't weird.

NB Can also be at home if you don't work in an office (or your glove compartment if you're a driver, I suppose) but lets try and keep it out of the bedroom, eh?

Idiots, that's who.

It mostly comes out on Tuesday. Mostly.

Games / PS4 hard drive upgrade
09 April, 2016, 10:58:32 AM
So, has anyone out there bought a basic PS4 and fitted a larger hard drive themselves? From what I've read, it's just a bog standard off the shelf number which shouldn't pose any problems. Or should I just suck it in and pay the extra?

Books & Comics / Trigan Empire (again)
11 March, 2016, 12:52:03 PM
So, I've never read any of this and it pops up every so often with people bemoaning the exorbitant prices. Is there a specific problem or rights issue which keeps it out of print? Or are there just not enough people interested in it?

The main reason I ask is because Panini started a new German edition towards the end of last year and it's already up to a fourth volume (they're shorter, Cinebooks-sized) so it seems a bit wild that they wouldn't try an English one.

Website and Forum / App and shop issue/query/suggestion
06 January, 2016, 11:10:41 AM
Morning all you happy webdudes. A few things to brighten up your January if you can help.

01. Happy New Year! Not sure if it's just a timing issue but the iOS app doesn't seem to have updated with 2016 yet. NB It has updated to add 2005/06 or whatever extra old years were added. So I can buy this week's Prog in the shop and download it but can't read it directly in the app.

02. Sorting in the webshop. I'm not sure if I ever thanked whoever it was who finally fixed the problem where the sort order reset to the default when you changed pages, so thanks. However... the way issues are currently sorted makes it very difficult to find anything other than the latest releases.

By default, issues are sorted by date. This appears to be the date they were added to the shop rather than publication date, so the front page looks like this:

If you then sort by title you get all the issues which are not available as physical back issues appearing first (or last, I suppose) making it difficult to find specific Progs. I reckon it would be a good idea to make "Digital" a suffix rather than a prefix so that it doesn't affect sorting. Imagine the trouble I'd have trying to buy Prog 1790 - 1795 for example.

03. Other really minor stuff that annoys me to an unnatural degree.
03.01 When I buy a Prog from the shop and go to download it, it seems to be completely arbitrary whether the .pdf or .cbz file is first. Presumably this is based on create/upload time rather than alphabetical. Not a big problem but I usually buy them randomly and download archive copies of a few at a time and expect the same format to be in the same place each time.
03.02 It causes me almost physical pain that the naming convention is different for the shop compared to the Rebellion portal (backups of Progs bought directly in the app.)

Thanks for your help. Have a nice day!

General / Colour question
30 December, 2015, 03:47:46 PM
How long did the full colour era of the Prog last? I know 723 was the first full Prog where every strip was coloured but having a look through the contents (rather than the Progs themselves) it seems that there were never any particularly long runs without something in B&W (Brigand Doom, Luke Kirby, Big Dave) until around 900.

Film & TV / FLYING BLIND ON A ROCKET CYCLE!!??!!
22 September, 2015, 09:57:19 AM
29/11/2015. Date for your diary if you stay in or near (i.e. the same country as) Glasgow.

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than getting pissed, listening to Brian Blessed (earplugs will be provided) then watching Flash!!

I'm booking a flight now.
