A book or ebook which may be of use to you would be "The Serious Guide to Joke Writing: How To Say Something Funny About Anything" by Sally Holloway. In the book, she goes through what she teaches in her comedy writing classes, mainly idea mapping and how to construct a joke.

If nothing else, it will provide background of what you should expect to get from a course.

I've had people tell me that Apocalypse War is excellent - but I've been warned that it's quite a tough story to be starting out on.

Pretty much the first Dredd story I read. An excellent story yes, but an unrepresentative one to start with.

Radiator is quite right to recommend "Mandroid" as it's fairly recent and pretty light on continuity. Some of the earlier Titan compilations may be a good starting point too.

Robot Moron from 'Robostory'

For years I couldn't find anyone else who had ever seen Robostory, or even heard of it. I was starting to think I'd imagined it till a couple of episodes appeared on Youtube

I used to love "Robostory" as well. Used to be one of the best things about Sunday mornings when I was younger.

Favourite moment was when White Wriggler had fouled up spectacularly and been demoted.  New White Wriggler gives hims grief causing him to mutter "Can't wait to see the look on your face when Revered Reverence calls you the lowest of the low".

Next scene: Revered Reverence and New White Wriggler "Always remember that Old White Wriggler was the lowest of the low".
