Send it to MK13 and, brilliant as I'm sure he is at his job, he can pin it on his wall as a reminder of how NOT to do promotional tie-ins.

And I think I got a "LEWD" rap from Tharg on the input page for PITCHFEST.  Here's the link again just to prove that I can do self-publicity as well.

One thing I did like about CABBALISTIC BUSTERS was that it seemd to cover similar ground to Bec and KAwl (supernatural, pop-culture references etc.) but did it much better.  The kokes are better so far than in the whole of B&K and the whole "reference" thing seemed to be woven into the story rather than just photocopied from "SMASH HITS FAVOURITE FILM SCRIPTS".

This Mister Rennie is certainly versatile and knows his onions - he was the only one that got the PAST IMPERFECTs correct (in my opinion).

God what's happened to me... I thought I'd have broken my resolution to be nice to people by now. Especially after what Mister Rennie said about that lovely Henrik chap (and us all been "tw*ts").

I found myself enjoying the issue - still haven't pinned this feeling down yet as:

Dredd/Aliens seems to be heading into familar territory (though I doubt it will actually end up there)

SLAINE: Haven't we seen *exactly* this episode before in some other painted Slaine epic?

CABBALISTICS: See above

DANTE: Loved the story, loved the art apart from another lame monster from Mister Burns and some really lame looking pirates.  He can draw but he can't design, I tell ya.

SIN/DEX: I like the artist, I didn't like the artist in-jokes but I love the lips and the way that the ugly one of the pair is now the dude and vice versa.

Aspiring screen writer?

I thought he was referring to all of us. And we'd all be too vain to see it.

Graham Norton is funny - had the pleasure of supporting him in St Albans once (I think).  But these days he just comes on and constantly goes "knob, knob, knob" (not that there's anything wrong with that) .  And how does he get those people to stand up at the start of the show and explain their "hilarious yet embarassing encounter with a goat".

There's a great ONION article about how the lowest common denominator has had to be redefined as even lower but I can't be bothered fiding the link

Enjoyed Darkie very much - I think having so many very similar episodes crammed together in the middle did it some harm though. Skip reading caused me to gloss over one of the episodes I remembered from being a kid.

The only thing that still gets to me is the casual attitude to slaughtering the "bungling" Japanese.

I know it should all be read in the context of the times but you can show WWII Jungle fighting without resorting to such stereotype, I'm sure.

I always fall back on the example of ZULU.  Forty years old now but it was "war is (boys own) hell", written with a respect for the warriors on both sides. In fact the British troops show more of a rape threat to the lone female in the cast.
Nobody treated shabbilly as charicature bad guys (and it had the easiest of target in Welshmen!).

Compare and contrast with the "loose remake" that was BLACKHAWK DOWN.  I shudder...

Still, overall a thumbs up to Darkie.

Also, would anybody that read Dudley's rather amusing Reaganite justification of all of the stories in this month's Meg, be willing to try and interpret them in a left wing fashion?

FACT:  The way that person X used to sort out a personal problem they were having will probabaly not work for person Y.  Because X and Y are different people.  And will probably have different personalities.  So you have to find a solution that matches your world view, not those of different people.  Buying and reading THE SEVEN HABITS OF EFFECTIVE TEENS (or EFFECTIVE PEOPLE, if you think you can handle the more growed up version) is a good place to start.  It doesn't offer any quick fixes or easy advice.  But it's great for helping you sort things out your way.

FACT: This isn't a reference to another seemingly interminable thread.

FACT: I'm lying.  I just didn't want to keep bumping the other one.

Replacement printer cartridges are so expensive you'd think it's cheaper to buy an entirely new printer - but the buggers only put a little bit of ink in the cartrdiges of new printers!

FACT:  Charged quite a lot of money as well.  I once organised a juggler to appear at someones 21 years at ICL celebrations in Manchester and when he whipped out his burning juggling things, the site manager just about jumped down my throat in case he set off the fire alarms...

FACT:  There was a TV programme in the 1980s called KNOT' LANDING.  I used to walk away from it on a regular basis and hence disproved DANTE's FACT.

FACT: KING TROUT is indeed evil as can be seen by his mocking of the afflicted (even celebrities).

FACT: TIPLODOCUS only typed the above because he wished he'd thought of those jokes first.

Wombles actually only have a five minute memory span and unless they sing a special song to remind themselves they exist, they vanish.

Hence: "Remember you're a womble, remember you're a womble..."
