Just listened to The Avengers (Steed & peel) TV theme, classic. And a fine noise it is at that.

I, Cosh

I wasn't keen on A Winged Victory for the Sullen's first album. I kept trying as I thought I was missing something but it just never clicked. Anyway, their new one is really quite beautiful. It deserves to be listened to as a whole but, if I was asked to pick out one track, I'd have to say that Atomos X is an absolute belter.
We never really die.

Primus and The Chocolate Factory

Yes, Primus have recorded the songs from the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka movie.
Genius.

Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side.

SuperSurfer

Saw St Vincent at the Roundhouse yesterday. I haven't been to too many concerts in the last ten years but that easily ranks as one of the best I've been to.

It is a good record.

Anyway in a coincidence of EPIC proportions... well okay that might be over stating it a bit, in a little bit of a coincidence given that a week or two back we were all wittering about Queen on here... I visited my Dad this weekend. He'd be asked by a friend to 'obtain' all of Queen's records, he did so, out them onto CD and then when offered to his friend, told, nah they didn't want them after all. So he asked me if I wanted them, so since all my Queen is on vinyl and I intend to sell my vinyl when I get time I said yep.

In the car on they way home I decided to list to the latter record to see if they deserved re-evaluation. So I of course started with 'Hot Space' and my lord what a piece of tosh it is to start. For about four tracks on what would have been the second it got better and probably having my enjoyment escalated by how bad the previous tracks had been (none of which I managed to listen to all the way through) I actually really liked them. One terrible track followed before Under Pressure wrapped the whole thing off.

By George I wish Bowie had done more duets with Freddie. Has a vocal pairing ever been so wonderful?

I'm listening to Jack U - the Diplo/Skrillex team-up you've all been waiting for - because I hate my parents, my girlfriend dumped me, and I've got a huge spot right on the end of my nose. Take Me There features the shrill vocals of Keisza, who can't actually sing; the superstar producers know this, and mischievously turn the NASAL fader all the way to 10 and speed up/pitch shift the chorus so her piercing screech is actually painful to listen to.

I know The Drop is now as big a cliche as the guitar solo or Westlife getting off their stools, but what else do you expect millionaires who screw models all day to do when they're contractually obliged to make a record together and can't leave the studio until the fat guy chewing on a stogie in the corner of the room hears something he can sell?  Anyway, YOU'RE NOT MY REAL DAD, AND I HATE YOU!

I'm listening to the new Magic Eight Ball album which is rather splendid if you are into Jellyfish / early Manics style power pop

It's also got what I suspect is the last recording work of the late great Rik Mayall on it.

The latest Billy Idol CD  :D
Do you find he sounds a bit like Bono on it? But for the fact there's some crazy Steve Stevens work on it it could be a U2 album.

That was at the back of my mind while I was perusing the tracks. Glad it's not just me ;)

Much to my shame I've never heard of the album this comes from, even though it was realised at the height of my indie kid pomp and while I'll almost certainly wonder why I did after the second play when the novelty wears off I'm off to the internet to buy this... such fun!

Well no turns out not to be the case. I've listen to this record quite a lot lately - Saturday Morning: Cartoons Greatest Hits - helped by the fact that the kids love it and by George the fun appeal just keeps on going. I'd not say its a great record, or even a good record but its most certainly a fun record and rather intriguing my favourite tracks seem to change each time I list to it - which is never a bad sign.

This rattles along pleasantly, like a forgivable Kings Of Leon, or maybe The Strokes if they had to reunite to pay off a big tax bill. His other stuff's a bit Pub Rock:

Hope nobody was expecting to see AC/DC tour their new record. Not a great year for them:

I am listening to Run the Jewels 2, the new FREE album by hip-hop superstars El-P and Killer Mike.

If you click on this link, you can download it and listen to it too - http://www.runthejewels.net/

Also, having a Deerhoof binge. I could try and describe what they sound like, but you're better off listening to a bit yourself. The drummer is brilliant - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7etn2czISU&list=ALBTKoXRg38BC4CJEugKzOXHTISMT-b6-x
