Cheers, Vernoona. Always room on the waiting list if you'd like to do an episode in 2020?

Congratulations Eamonn! Do you have any favourites from the firs t 100?

Some of the most enjoyable ones that spring to mind fo rme were: Pete Well's on America, Conrad and Fox talking about early thrills, the South American chap talking about the Judge Child, the one where you interviewed the man who owns the 'Gaze into the fist of Dredd' artwork, David Bishop on Thrill Power Overload, and your daughters insights on Sandman.

I know I bought Cradlegrave and Rok Of The Reds on the strength of your podcast and they were both excellent - Rok particularly deserves more exposure. I might have bought others too but can't remember just now.

Early in the 100th podcast you mention a Mount Rushmore of British comics must contain Dan Dare. Who else would you include? I was thinking about this a bit and think I would go for: Dennis The Menace, Dan Dare, Modesty Blaise, Roy Of The Rovers and Judge Dredd.

Perhaps Sherlock Holmes too? Not really a comic hero but pulp magazines like The Strand were very much the precursors of action comics in the form of text stories with visuals thrown in (a la text stories in 2000ad annuals), and the art for those Sherlock Holmes stories has influenced our view of the character to this very day.

Thank you, WhizzBang. I like all of them but your choice of episodes were all highlights and really fun to record and release. I quite enjoy the opportunity to sit down with guests to record but I know some of the pubs were a bit too noisy which I think was unfair on a couple of my contributors. Hopefully they will all get another chance in quieter surroundings.

That's a cracking line up for the Brit comics Mount Rushmore, very hard to argue with them, I might suggest Halo Jones or Misty for the female spot but Modesty Blaise has the longevity and really deserves to be up there as I'm sure my latest guest would agree.

Please stay tuned. Coming up in the next few weeks we have the forum's very own Buttonman on Invasion 1984!, as well as episodes on Dice Man, the Fall of Deadworld, and the Dead Man. And let me know if you fancy a go yourself.

We'd need to ask non-comics readers to find out the true Mount Britishmore heads - I tried googling to see if there were any handy pages, and across the top it suggested (in order) Judge Dredd; Dan Dare; Desperate Dan; Captain Britain; Steel Claw; Robot Archie; Bananaman; Marvelman; Minnie the Minx; Billy Bunter; Strontium Dog; Korky the Cat; Beryl the Peril; Sexton Blake; Big Eggo; Grimly Feendish; Ivy the Terrible (I don't know this one); Buster Capp; Roger the Dodger and Gnasher.  Weirdly, Dennis doesn't appear even though Gnasher did.

I'd add Ally Sloper and Rupert the Bear to the prospective list - the first because he was there right at the beginning, the second because everybody knows who Rupert is.

Taking all of those together, I'd have to put Dennis and Gnasher (counts as one choice!), Desperate Dan, Rupert the Bear, Dan Dare and I'm stuck for the last place.  As much as it'd be good to include a female character, would I even recognise Modesty Blaise out of context?  Minnie is too much like Dennis, seeing a pic of Beryl, I'm not totally sure I'd have recognised them.  The problem with girl's comics (for this kind of exercise) is that they were more likely to feature self-contained stories, so the characters don't have the 50-year+ history that boy's comics did.

Thanks Eamonn! I'll have to see if I could narrow down a book to discuss...

I still have not read any MB but she is probably the most well known UK comic character in Europe. I have met comic collectors here who bring her up and assume I would have read it because I am British. In my local area (I live in Malmo, Sweden) we have a corner shop selling MB mugs and the supermarket does has some MB comics too but I would have to go to a specialist store to find anything 2000ad related.

I think MB is an easy sell because it can be described as 'a British comic about a female James Bond'. That and the artwork are probably enough to draw people in to give it a try.

Just four the record Mount Rushmore is TOP FOUR! (Maybe six if you go by the Cursed Earth version with Carysr and that mutant guy)

I know the name, all right, but Mount Rushmore is a statue, and has to go on appearances.  Modesty Blaise was drawn (at least in some adventures) by John Burns, wasn't she?  Show me five women drawn by Burns in the 1970s and I doubt I'd know which was Modesty.

QuoteThe Pit with Stacey Whittle

Looking forward to this one - I remember one of the first ECBT review podcasts that Stacey did with Iz .. she won me over with her comment (add Geordie accent for full effect) "Just look at Dredd in that panel - he looks like he needs a reet big hug"
