Abslutely loved the art on that one - Edmund Bagwell using a pseudnym IIRC - remember being quite annoyed that it never led to a erguar gig on Dredd for him, as he captured MC1 brilliantly

Nothing deep or meaningful, just Mega City gang warfare at its absolute peak.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. "I say, chaps, those Nazi bounders are being a bit too rum in the military ethics department. What we need is a rag-tag band of ill-disciplined homicidal maniacs to field against those fiendish rotten u-boats. We'll also need a fishing boat, lots of guns and explodey things, plenty of bemuscled npcs, a sexy spy, the Del Trotter of Fernando Po, and a bow and arrows. Now, before we embark upon this foolhardy endeavour... Oh dear, I appear to have developed several holes in my chest... Number One, be a dear and take over while I lie here and concentrate on my bleeding, would you?" Fairly fun film.

Dispatches from Elsewhere (2020). "Four ordinary people who feel that something is missing in their lives stumble into a puzzling game whose mystery winds far deeper than they ever imagined." Wonderfully bonkers ten-and-done series. In case you're not sold, I'll also throw in Sally Field and Richard E. Grant.

Them. "A Black family, moving to an all-white Los Angeles neighbourhood in 1953, encounter both human and otherworldly forces trying to destroy them." I really enjoyed this mix of human and supernatural horror - indeed, some of the scenes of racial abuse are more horrifying than the blood-and-guts episodes. "Whatcha gon do? Whatcha gon do?" Excellent stuff. (Season Two is the same but different, and just as good.)

Late night with the Devil is more of a psychological horror than anything else so no jump scares and even manages to get a few laughs in. Hope that will help you sell it.

Godzilla Minus One is one of the best movies I've seen in ages and far far far superior to the American movies with the same character. Must check out Shin Godzilla so.

To those who have seen Monster - I would love to hear your thoughts on the end but I can't seem to do spoilers anymore.

Also saw an excellent French movie called The Origin of Evil, would recommend that too and the South American When Evil Lurks.

Thankyou.

I forgot about trainspotting as a reflection of that pose. Law is obviously Dredds drug eh? But the gangster rapper I thought of too as the picture came to fruition. Dredd is ten times more dangerous though, I think.

I'm glad the Anderson and Dredd composition is being received well. Sometimes it's best to let the psychic deal with the psychic stuff, right? While laying down some covering fire.

Thanks for the bump on dark judges pic too Nightbook.

Sorry guys, its that time again.

MOBILE SUIT GUNADM SEED might be the most lied about work of fiction I've ever engaged with in regards to the popular reputation (among westerners, at least) of it being bad.
It's a strange, lumbering, ungainly monster of a show with serious identity issues but beneath all its warts and defects beats a heart of pure, unfiltered Y2K sincerity. And that goes a long way for me.

I'll keep that one short but I went into a bit more detail about why the show proved significant to myself as someone on the autism spectrum, especially coming out at a time (2002) when neurodiveristy was treated as this heinous, detestable societal defect, on my letterboxd.

4. Godzilla Minus One

7. Monster (Korea, 2023)

Really want to see Godzilla Minus One - must sort that out.

is Monster good? I think its on Prime (or was it Netflix) and forgot to tag it but if its worth watching will pop back to do so.

Both are superb, MONSTER is making my top 3 of the year. Did not have 'Rashomon for the education system about three autistic people and their struggles to communicate' on my bingo card for 2024 but here we are, and its great.

Cool beans I'll remember to check that one out then...

Minus One also made my top 10 of last year, I'm not a fan of the monochromatic presentation so I'd definitely advise going for the colour version as was originally intended. As good as Shin Godzilla? No, but then nothing is, but that still means Minus One is among the best of the decade thus far.
