Events / 40th Birthday party- Boarders & Lurkers?
06 February, 2017, 03:07:28 PM
As I'm sure almost no-one here has missed, there is going to be a little get together for Tharg and his minions this weekend. I'm more than ridiculously excited- frankly I've looked forward to this more than anything in the last year.

So as not to derail the main thread- I'm starting this one to see how many of us who frequent this place are going to be there.

Back in the day we managed to get a pretty awesome board photo at one of the Oxford Dreddcons, and more recently there was a sizeable group up at Hi-Ex, but this is potentially the greatest gathering of the Hive- ever.

So, who is coming?

I'm not just after current boarders- I'm also very interested to see if we can tempt any old boarders who may now just lurk to de-cloak and say hi.

So, I'll start.

Bolt-01 & Nano-Bolt (She hates that name so please use it all day :))

Who else?

Books & Comics / The 13th Stone- Comicstrip
29 October, 2016, 01:58:48 PM

It's become something of a Halloween tradition for Bryan Coyle and Lee Robson to do a short comic, but this year (with the help of Bolt-01), we've gone one better and done a full blown 22 page one-shot, called The 13th Stone.

"Taking a job in the small English village of Argleton, archaeologist Joy Lambton finds herself wiling away her spare time investigating the ancient stones that stand on the outskirts and trying to solve one particular mystery that surrounds them: why the few sources she can find claim there are only eleven stones, when there are clearly twelve.

But when she learns of a thirteenth stone, Joy begins to uncover the strange and sinister connection they have to the village..."

You can find more about the comic (including links where you can buy it) here: Imaginary Stories

Books & Comics / The Class Of '79- Archive edition.
26 October, 2016, 08:20:53 PM
Greetings Squaxx.

Following on from the untimely passing earlier this year of Stewart, we at Zarjaz were asked about putting out a Co'79 special. While this was a really good idea, and something we would have really enjoyed, Tharg did it better by putting Harry Heston in the Meg.

However, what we 'are' doing is beginning work on a 'Archive edition' of both classic 'zines.

What I've done is get a set of scans from my print copies, and I'm using those as a basis for what amounts to rebuilding them. Where possible I'm matching fonts, but I'm also building what I believe the cadets would have if they were putting the work out now.

I've had permission from as many folks who worked on '79 as I can so all being well in the mid-future the Class Of '79- Archive edition will be available to download, for free, for all.

This is a pretty sizeable job, as you can imagine, so I'm asking for some help.

First, can someone help me with a 'clean' scan of:

and are there any squaxx oout there who want to transcribe a few articles for me? There are some astounding articles in these pages, and I'd love to be able to present them in a 'perfect' form once again.

If you are able to help, then please get in touch by PM.

Thanks all.

Books & Comics / BOMB SCARES!
02 October, 2015, 03:51:56 PM

News item from Down The Tubes- covering this upcoming release from the good folks at Time Bomb comics.

Reason for posting? Well, other than the cover above being by Richard Elson & Dave Kendall, the book contains (from my involvement) some cracking creators, including at least two boarders.

And on a personal note- the pages in the news item all feature my lettering- woot!

I don't want to say too much here, but it is related to something for Zarjaz.

Thanks in advance.

Books & Comics / Cross- A Political Satire- KICKSTARTER
10 October, 2014, 01:41:43 PM

Cross

Let's get something out of the way- I'm not big on Kickstarting stuff. I'd much prefer to see this set up as a normal title where the publisher puts it all in up front. However I'm not in charge of this but I am friends with the folks that are.

The link above will get you to the relevant KS page, and there is a lot more info there on the first rate creators involved.

2000 AD fans will be interested to know that Rob Williams, PJ Holden, David Baillie and Alwyn Talbot are among the creators who have contributed writing and artwork, and Matt Soffe has provided some promo work as well. That's without putting out that the whole shebang is the brainchild of two of our own- Uncle Fester and Lady Festina.

2000 AD has a long tradition of snubbing the nose of authority, so for me this sits squarely in the worthwhile category.

Books & Comics / Job Dun- Fat Assassin
15 August, 2014, 08:51:44 AM
First off I need to declare that I lettered this so I do have a vested interest in seeing it do well.

Available now on Comixology Job Dun- Fat Assassin is written by Mark Hobby, with art by (FQP Fave) Ben Byrne, colour in this issue by Noelle Dreves and letters by Bolt-01

The issue is available digitally for 0.99$ and is 28 pages of solid sci-fi action with a tone not too dissimilar from 2000 AD

It's not for kids, due to being a bit rude and sweary, but it's a good solid read and each of the creatives have put a hell of a lot of time into trying to get this done.

Issue 02 is being worked on as we speak and will feature colours from our very own CrazyFoxMachine.

General / Ace Trucking Images- Help
07 May, 2014, 04:20:48 PM
Oh, mighty Hive I call upon you once again for aid!

Can you please post pics of the crew of the one and only Speedo Ghost here for me. It is for an artist who is potentially working on a strip for Zarjaz that may or may not have links to the classic ACE trucking...

Think we can get away with main cast only, but hopefully some Bellardinelli loveliness will brighten everybody's day.

Starting today!

Prog / Prog 1858- Gorehead Unchained
09 November, 2013, 10:34:20 AM

Been a while since I did this, sorry if I'm rusty...

Cover- Not my cup of tea. Think the colourscheme overall isn't going to be standing out.

Dredd- Emma Beeby solo script with John Burns on the art. Really nice opener, be nice to see how this plays out.

Brass Sun- Some superb visuals and the story progresses nicely. This will be a lovely read in long form.

Flesh- Having Lee Townsend on inks works in some places, but not in others- His lines are a lot 'cleaner' than McKay but I'm not sure it works. Storywise I'm loving this series.

3rillers- Rewind- As much as I love Eva's colours I almost wish this was B&W so Redondo could have gone to town with his cross hatching. Storywise this went exactly where I thought it would, but still a nice script by Robert Murphy (FutureQuake and Something Wicked alumnus you know, latest issues available now from the  FQP Shop)

Damnation Station- Liking this a lot more now it's got a few episodes under its belt. This series feels a lot more focussed than the original run and I'm glad to have it around.

Overall- The prog is has picked up a lot of pace lately- I'm back to eagerly awaiting each new issue.

Ooh, you can't spoiler tag images? apologies

Events / Bolt-01 needs you! It's time to walk on fire!
28 August, 2013, 10:51:15 PM
On September 21st, I'll be taking part in a firewalk to help raise money for a wonderful charity. PHAB take disabled and disadvantaged children from all across the region and provide them with an amazing holiday, full of fun, memories and valuable learning experiences.

As you can imagine, times are tough for charities all over, so I feel it's time I did my best to give something back.

MyDonate is the link you need to visit to help me to raise funds to give my kids a week away from the madness that is my life.

Also- Sour Dough Tharg approves!

I've been here for almost 10 years now, so please prove to me why this is the finest place in the whole web.
