...as mentioned in a the thrill-mail a couple of days ago.
This sounds great and I'm looking forward to hearing more about it. The box looks nice and chunky and it's great they've gone with the proper Judge Dredd logo and used Ol' Stony Font for the "Block War" text.
It's a pity there's not more detail as I'd like to know if it will be out in time for Christmas.
Website here, for those that missed it: Judge Dredd - Block War (http://gameandacurry.com/blockwar/) from Game & A Curry.
Yeah I like the look of this. I would like to know a bit more about suitability for kids and stuff like that. I have signed up for the newsletter at the bottom of the page and hope to hear more soon.
Nothing on BoardGameGeek yet. Shame there are no card previews.
I really liked the Block Mania game (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/330/block-mania) from Games Workshop in 1987. A little more ponderous to play than their classic Judge Dredd screw-over fest (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1098/judge-dredd) five years previously, but still a lot of fun.
I sent an email to Game and Curry asking for a firm release date on this, but unfortunately got nothing back. In the Meg maybe last month or the month before a September release was mentioned - it's all been silent since!
Looing at a couple of websites it seems the price for this will vary between about £16 - £20. They all have a 'TBA' on their release date, but pre-orders are available.
Does anyone have any other news on it?
I went on a bit of a hunt. It was recently for sale at the 2000AD stand at the NYCC, start of the month.

I've tweeted them to ask what the UK release date is - will see if I get a reply.

Once we have the stock in our UK warehouse we will be selling them through the webshop, just waiting on that slow boat....

Woo-hoo!
So, once it reaches these shores, who wants a game at the Southern Contingent gathering (or Lawless next year)?
In a similar view, we're long overdue a South Wales meet up! Perhaps a game and a curry somewhere when this lands? :D

Trying to work out how big that box is - looks like it should fit neatly on the shelf with various Munchkins and Chez games boxes?

Woo-hoo!
Anyone else got this? Mine landed last night and had a quick look through this morning. Haven't got my head into it properly yet but seems like it will be fun and I'm already hoping for the hinted at expansion set.
I had a few niggles with the design and the rules could have been a little sharper - in terms of how they are explained - or I could be being dumb but over all nice little purchase...
...just need someone to play it with is someone fancies popping round to mine!
I'm getting it from the missus for Christmas, so I'll be picking your brains come Stephen's Day, Colin! As noted in the Dredd RPG thread, would be possible to play this on a virtual tabletop, with a wee bit of work.
Same here - I suspect not many copies will be opened this close to christmas!

Happy to try this virtual table top thing... whatever it is????
Mine turned up today! Woohoo!
Just need someone good at card games to help me through the rules. Instruction manuals just confuse me. They're probably not complicated for the average punter, but I learn by doing!
I've got mine too! Sadly, it's now sitting wrapped under the Christmas tree, so I'll have to wait a couple of days!
Honestly Colin, the lesson from all this that you have no kind of self-control. Bet half the selection boxes in your house are already missing their Crunchies.
Arh but it was never a pressie the timing is just unfortunate... I still not read the bumper Prog and all... mind it's not the Crunchies you have to worry about it's the After Eights.
Hallelujah! This video makes the instructions so much clearer to the likes of me!
https://youtu.be/m2iJBawUAjE
Right so in my first ever game my 7 year old son beat me... do I
1) Put it down to luck
2) Not worry as we're learning the game and neither of use really knew what we were doing
3) Worry that I got beaten by my dagnabbit 7 YEAR OLD and never mention it to a living soul...
watching that video, it seems you are always attacking the Judges rather than your opponents block? Seems odd for a Block War game!
There's a number of ways you get through to opponents Preps but there is a need to kill Justice Department folk a lot.
Just found out my brother's ordered this for me for xmas but it hasn't arrived yet. Can't wait, looks good
Enjoying playing a few learning games, but I'm not convinced the printed rules are very clear. YouTube tutorials are more helpful, but a Card Glossary covering special cases would be useful.
It took me ages to realise that units could only attack through an open gate, and I'm still not sure where in the rules it says this!
So here's my first question to the hive mind:
The Bike Cannon's card text says: "The Lawmaster fires its' [sic] Bike Cannon destroying any closed gate it is fscing".
But does it have to defeat any defenders in the conventional way before it gets its shot? The "any closed gate" would suggest not. And if not, what happens to any units defending the gate? Can the defender just use an AP to move them to an intact gate on his turn?
Ah-hah, just found the FAQ - confirms units are destroyed when gate is, so I presume that means they don't have to be defeated first. Powerful card, but nothing on the Stub Gun! :o

Oh thanks fuck it wasn't just me being thick!
That video tutorial shaolin_monkey makes it all much clearer I think - thanks again for sharing.
Hah, two days puzzling out the rules and playing with against myself, and then casually trounced by my 12 year old in our first two proper games. Sigh.
Still, now I have the hang of it it's fun, plays very fast and is surprisingly evocative of the setting. Rikki-Rikki-Rikki! Hope the mentioned-expansions are already in train.
They've had some feedback on the rules and are working on a clearer rulebook. The work in progress version is here. http://forums.gameandacurry.com/showthread.php?tid=3 (http://forums.gameandacurry.com/showthread.php?tid=3)
There's some interesting initial feedback elsewhere on the forum, which is worth a look if you have the game.
Btw, I do like the artist credits on the cards.
I've been following this over on BGG before I jump on board, but it seems to have gone quiet - no comments yet on whateher the new rules are complete OR "fix" any confusion/problems?
The update is a work in progress. It adds some helpful combat examples but isn't complete yet. Helpful in combination with the rules that came with the game, but incomplete by itself. I registered on their forum to see how the next update is going but that's been quiet for a while.
They have put a helpful play guide on YouTube. It could benefit from a more energetic narration though!
Putting the above all together is enough for a fairly good idea of how to play I would say...
I found the video really odd, as it appeared that the two blocks spend all their time fighting the Justice Dept and no time fighting each other!
I know what you mean re the video!
The author has just replied on their forum. Updated rules should be out tomorrow apparently.
Revised rule book can be downloaded here : https://www.gameandacurry.com/2019/02/05/updated-block-war-ruleset/
Good on you for doing this - any chance of a new video tutorial to clear up any issues?
Wonder if there were supply and over-demand issues before Christmas, or whether it's just Forbidden Planet selling stuff they don't yet own, but my brother ordered me this for Xmas and has been told of a three month delay - I want my pressy now!

Had a wander around Shaftesbury Avenue on Monday night (to get that Tabletop Games magazine with the JD: Cursed Earth card giveaway, and also to see what other games are out there these days). Orc's Nest (https://www.orcsnest.com/) had a few copies of JD: Block War. Also went along to Forbidden Planet - didn't see any JD-related games, though did pick up a few of the recent books - the Judges anthology and the skimpier than expected Anderson one. Anyway, upshot is there were a few copies of Block War in Orc's Nest and I'm pretty sure they do mail order.
