Ooh, that's hard.  I believe both did their very best work on Sláine, and both were fecking brilliant - though neither of them had Sláine himself looking the way Angie Mills designed him or all the post-Massimo artists developed, both of them drew the best Tir na n-Ogs of any Sláine artists ever.

I think, for sheer originality, for developing a truly unique style that looks like something woven together with the primitive tools of Sláine's time, McMahon wins by a hair.

If Massimo beats Bolland, then he beats McMahon as well in my book!

Page per page I'd say McMahon wins but peak McMahon was pretty limited output wise compared to page after page of creative insanity from Belardinelli. So Massimo gets my vote.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

Mick McMahon. The McMahon Dredd statute in my "man-cave" backs up my vote!

Ah, look, I don't know who to pick here. I'm going to do my artist switcheroo here and ask if McMahon could have done a job on Ace Trucking or Mean Team and have the same impact as Belardinelli? I think we could have seen some interesting McMahon style gearshift and gotten something special that would work. We know both artists can draw Slaine superbly well, but I'm still in awe of McMahon's Sky Chariot run, and would love to have seen more of that style of Slaine. When it comes to Dredd, I don't think swapping in Belardinelli for McMahon would work at all. So I think, even though I love the weirdo madness of Belardinelli's work, I'm going to pick Mick McMahon to progress from this round.

I'm also after realising who the last pairing in the Classic Artists quarter-finals are... good grud! Shenanigans ahead!

That's just saying 'I don't like belatdinelli's Dredd' (which is fair enough) but seriously underplaying the humour, alien-ness and unique strangeness Belardinelli brought to everything he touched. Can I imagine Ace Trucking by anyone else? No.

When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Old age is the Lord's way of telling us to step aside for something new. Death's in case we didn't take the hint.
