That's a fair old stretch of pareidolia right there.  Lucky the internet wasn't around back then; his 'double' would probably be getting Twitter death threats.

My grud, I haven't seen those Mean Team pages in years! I was only 11 when they came out and I remember really enjoying the absolute carnage contained therein.  Brilliant stuff (and also the introduction of the prototype of Batman's Ventriloquist).

The sequel was a bit lame though, and Avatar Firekind kept me reading through the prog's bad years, so I'll stick.

In the prog we can have a short story a story than ran for weeks or even two or three parts. So, how do you prefer your stories?
-   Small bursts of 1 to 3 parts
-   Between 6 and 8 episodes
-   10 to 12 parts
-   I like the long run
-   Just tell me a story I do not care about the length

This one, please.  For every Horned God there's a Junker

Firekind, without a shadow of a doubt.  Sci-fi perfection, and one of the best strips Tharg has to offer.

Re: accents - I miss the 1970s eight-year-old English kid accent!

Me too! The episode where the kid turned into a gruff 17-year-old expressing his appreciation for Medb's tit had me chuckling all day.

I was a bit late to the party with this podcast, but Grud help me, I love it.   Generally I agree with most of what Conrad says and disagree with most of what Fox says, but that's what keeps things interested, I suppose.  Also find myself practically screaming into my headphones about some of the references you guys have missed but that's part of the fun too!
I'm trying my best! There's lots of ground to cover and lots of knowledge I don't have!

Ah yeah, my apologies, didn't mean to be serious.  You've actually done an incredible job of getting up to speed with references and it genuinely makes me laugh out loud when you throw in the readers' British accents!  I really must revisit the ones where you covered the Murphyville Dredds; your Irish accents were a laugh a minute too, if I remember correctly.

Anyway I listened to the latest one today; it was hugely enjoyable as always and it brings a much-needed fun element to my memories of that particular era of the prog.  Me, I'm trawling through your back catalogue of podcasts the way you're trawling through Tharg's back catalogue and it's genuinely been a joy all the way.

Classic! Never knew your standard Lawmaster was a bit of a comedian.  More of this kind of thing!

Very grim, but all too accurate.

Ah, fair enough. Thought it was a bit of an odd concept fit Garth Ennis to introduce out of nowhere.

That was my first thought too.  The only story where the Lawmaster gets sarky with Dredd.

Definitely McNeil.  For feck's sake, let someone he kills stay dead.  Hershey's death was pure Dredd perfection, then... Well, never mind.

Some kind of super-regen technology.  Dredd has to stay on the streets and it has to actually be Dredd.

Think I could just about live with that.  The tech does exist in MC1, as shown by Mike Carroll in Carousel.  Not ideal, but none of the solutions are.

Spurred on by Broodblik's vote re. Dredd writers, I've started thinking about Dredd's age and decided to make my own referendum.

Dredd is old.  He began to feel his age over 30 years ago. He can't last forever. It's a problem, and I'm not sure how to solve it.  What should happen?

1.  Permanent Kraken - He should die, and Rico should take his name.

2.  The standard solution  - He should die, and (yawn) have his brain / bio-chip inserted into Rico to make them the same person.

3.  Dark Knight Returns (kind of) - He should become Chief Judge, and leave the rough stuff to Rico.

4.  The Taggart solution - He should die, and an ensemble of supporting characters should take over.

5.  The DC solution - the real-time thing should be quietly shelved, and a floating timeline introduced.

6.  The Stront - he dies, then we just dip into past cases here and there.  (But he isn't resurrected).

7.  The half-Stont - he doesn't die, but we still just go back to past cases (like that recent Apocalypse War one).

8.  The Dan Dare - the whole strip is dropped, and other writers occasionally resurrect him (though Grant Morrison isn't allowed to have Judge Death do what the Mekon did to Dan in Revolver).

9.  The Narcos solution - Dredd's brain is put into a Mechanismo robot, and now HE knows what it is to be discriminated against.

10 - something else.

It's boring, and cliched, but I think with a gun to my head I'd have to go with 2.

EDIT - no, feck it.  I'll go with 3.  Obviously that's just kicking the can down the road but it's the best I can think of.

hmmm ... i'd really like a showrunner to knit everything together and provide us with a little more consequence.

Me this also! I enjoyed the core Wagner years where events had consequences. It's a fun world to play around in, and I'm not saying that's necessarily wrong - but fitting each creator's vision in and trying to call it canon makes no sense. Or, to put it another way: End of Days is fine as alternity. It doesn't make much sense otherwise.

With you all the way here.

I'm struggling with Dredd's age too - Minus the 122 years that separate us, and adding the 5 accelerated years, he's about Joe Biden's age.  It wouldn't stretch credibility quite so much if his back pains and other ageing issues hadn't begun over 30 years ago.
