Prog / Re: Prog 2329: Fruiting bodies!

Sorry to see The Order go, though at least there is an ending. I'm not sure we ever found out who created Ritterstahl? My assumption is that this happened in the future and he was sent back in time (along with the seed stuff) to found the Order and fight the wurms, using historical knowledge of their incursions. This did all get a little lost in recent series, however.

Now there's a dilemma. I haven't read the Meg for a while but really want to read Dreadnoughts. But the last Lawless I read was the musical one and I'd rather wait for the last series to be collected before starting the new one next month. Maybe I should just hang on for both to be collected...

General / 1500 old progs to charity
15 April, 2023, 09:04:32 PM
I started reading 2000AD around prog 150, reading my brother's copy each week. When he left home I bought it for myself and have done ever since. Eventually the piles of progs got too much, and after a couple of house moves they ended up in crates in my roof. And there they stayed. I never read them, as it was too much hassle to fish out the ones I wanted, even though the boxes were labelled, and I think that I found the sheer size of the collection intimidating. And besides, I just buy the collected editions when I want to relive an old thrill. Eventually I decided they should go to a good home, but for ages I wasn't sure how to do that - far too many to sell off via eBay bundles - even a year's worth is a big heavy parcel. So they stayed in my attic. Then a couple of weeks ago I spotted a few progs in the local Oxfam shop, and got talking to the lad behind the counter, who, it turns out, knows his comics. "I have about 1500 2000ADs, could you take them?". "Sure, no problem." And so six stupidly heavy crates containing virtually every prog from 1987 to 2017 ended up in the charity shop. I have no idea how they'll shift them!

So if the size of your prog collection is preying on your mind, give a thought to donating it to a good cause. Now it's gone I feel it's a weight off my mind. I now only have about six years worth lying around (so I can figure out what's happening in The Order before the latter series are collected) so I think I'll be fine for while!

Quote from: hellscrape on 31 March, 2023, 04:38:51 AMOh man, if these have the colored pages intact, this would be my fourth version of some of these tales!!!
What are you, some kind of amateur? I used to have some of this in original progs, some obscure hardcover, phone books, UC, deviant edition and more recently Heresies. I did think it too many, however, so all I have now are the Heresies (and Deviant, for the colour variant) which I think should do me!

Prog / Re: Prog 2323: The Out

The Order has been in danger of falling into the same trap as a lot of other series, such as Slaine, where entire series are basically just one long punch up, with little plot development. I'm pleased to see things resolving themselves finally.

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 15 March, 2023, 09:15:04 AMIt'd be interesting to see how The Order hangs together on a straight read-through. Red Seas felt like a mess – albeit an intriguing one – due to big gaps and loads of narrative threads. Then I read it in the UC and it came across very well. I hope that'll be the same for The Order, when I get time to do the same.
Think you're right there. I enjoyed The Order UC, and it all made sense. It was possible to get a handle on the characters, some of whom disappear for years in the prog. I'm very much hoping we get a second collection to wrap it up.

Woohoo! The Xmas prog has arrived at last! And the one after it! That's me finally up to date (obviously no sign of this week's, but I wouldn't expect that normally anyway).

My goodness! 2310 has just dropped through the letterbox! Already got 2311, so maybe I'll get the Xmas prog some time this month?

I'm just back from a week away. Lots of post, but no progs! I'll have to give up on 2310 I think, and source elsewhere, but is anyone still waiting for 2312 (Xmas prog)? Should i hold out longer? (Strangely, 2311 turned up before Xmas.)

As a general rule (not just progs) I stick everything on iCloud, so it's easily accessible on all my apple devices. Extra storage is fairly cheap if you need it.

That's 2311 arrived today (Perth) but no 2310 yet. I'll hold out a bit longer I think. Did read the free digital versions last week, though. Be nice to get the Xmas prog this side of new year but I'm not hopeful.

After e-mailing the subs office, their response is basically that if we don't receive anything by Friday, then you should contact them henceforth in order to for any and all replacements to be sent in the post and in your hands by Christmas weekend(-ish).

Yesterday and today were strike days so I doubt anyone will have got anything by today. May wait till Monday.

(Ok that was meant to be a quote from up thread but you know what I mean!)
