The poor standard displayed in recent future shocks

Of late I have noticed a sharp decline in the quality of future shocks. They have a tendency to repeat storylines and endings which have seen print before. While reading the latest copy of 2000 AD's sister publication the Judge Dredd megazine I noticed a reference to " the testing ground for new writers " that 2000 AD supposedly offers.

I put it to you then Tharg that the recurring themes which have proved to the detriment of your publication can be attributed to the repeated usage of the same small group of writers used in the production of scripts.

With many eager fans only to keen to see their work in publication for no fee whatsoever it seems unusual to me that you have not made use of them. Granted their offerings may not be as tightly scripted as the work of the professionals but I am sure my fellow readers are willing to tolerate this, if only to reassure ourselves of the fact that we too have a chance at seeing our names in print in your sterling publication.

I thank you.

and now back to my 250 page Dredd epic - here's a quick peek...
" CHIEF JUDGE GOODMAN: Good work Dredd! Since you've been patrolling section six of the city crime has dropped drastically! The people are in your debt. "

" JUDGE DREDD: Thanks your honour! "

I don't know...

Take my future shocks.  They all end up with the hero finding out he's a crab.  Now that would make a great one off, which obviously Tharg has failed to do, but would you want to see my crab antics every week, up close, in yer face?!!

Huh?!?  Well, would ya!??!

No, much better to print one crab story (crabby birthday to you) and then let me have a special crab series.

Cheers

p.s. it's not true that I stole my ideas from Guy N. Smith.

p.p.s.

Seriously. I think readers are best served by good future shocks, wherever they come from.  Favouring a poor script by a new writer, surely couldn't do them any favours.

p.p.p.s

Except if it was crab based.

"Take my future shocks. They all end up with the hero finding out he's a crab."

Sounds a bit too similar to the Hell Trekkers ending to me! :D

Do not underestimate the power of the crab.

Mr Wagner and Guy N. Smith may attempt to curtail my activities in the lawcourts, but my crab minions with seek out and destroy them.

Crab ho!

Someone here mentioned it a few weeks ago, that if Tharg were in a tight corner he'd employ Steve Moore instead of a decent ametuer.  Steve Moore needs less editing and help.  It may not be of high quality, but he doesn't need help and ideas like a newbie would.  Effectively, Steve Moore gets so much more work than he should.
