I played RE6 in Co-op and was the secondary character.  Those secondary characters fucking suck and the co-op is utter shit, especially Jake's campaign.  What's-her-face in his campaign had all her agency removed.  It made me increasingly more angry the more I had to wait for my friend to do everything so I can move forward.  The end of the campaign summed it up when she finally looks like she's going to do something and - wait, no, no forget that, Jake has to do it for her.  The little lady can't be trust to pull the trigger of a gun.  That's my biggest complaint with the game, but it's one in a horde.

I played with AI, so i can't speak for co-op, but I find co-op xperience more rewarding if your partners knows his/her shit. But that is another complaint I have against the game. Whole partner xperience is uneven. You might battle a b.o.w, while your partner who is in the another room, awaits for you to open door. I find Jake true gentlemen, doing all the hard work lol. But i like when he says to Sherry at the end "you saved me". But i was glad when Sherry was left briefly alone to fight Rasklapanje. I hate those self-reassembling nasty buggers.
Reyt, you lot. Shut up, belt up, 'n if ye can't see t' bloody exit, ye must be bloody blind.

My friend enjoyed playing Jake.  Because he got to play the game.  We played this game off the back of our first run through of RE5 which is the polar opposite.  The co-op in that game is fantastic and I am so happy playing the secondary character that we haven't switched roles in the two times since that we've played it.  I really like playing as Sheva.  We take turns doing things and we're developing roles to suit our play styles.  My friend likes to run head long into everything with a shotgun and I like to snipe.  So he assaults and I back him up.  RE6 was just an exercise in frustration that got so much wrong that anything good about it gets lost in sea of shit.

RE6 made a wound that will never heal.

Yeah, RE6 does give very scarce possibilities for sniping.

Quake 2 is turning out to be interesting.  There's some cool stuff, like the effort put into enemy animations, the flies, the level structure, sliding down slopes and the machine gun giving kick-back that affects aiming.  I forgot about most of this stuff.  There are objectives!  Not that they seem to make much difference, but they are there.  I'm going to need to learn some keyboard shortcuts for the items.

It looks pretty decent once I turned the brightness up so I could actually see things.  I had the same issue with Quake.

dying light - which after it's release in 2015

is still doing neat updates, like the recent zombie easter egg hunt

for someone that doesn't really like fps, this is the exception to the rule for me

I messed up with that game.  I played it enough to get all the way to the old town area and I really liked it.  But then I stopped playing and when I got back to it a year or two later I didn't know what I was doing and was stuck in a corridor with a big zombie and that was me done.

Great game while I stuck with it though!

The Enigmatic Dr X

I just started Dying Light today, for the first time. I find its area of attack hard to measure compared to other melee games, especially Skyrim, but I am enjoying it.

Regarding co-op, Dead Space 3 was my best experience. There is one section where a character goes mad. One player sees a series of demons attacking - which you have to shoot. The other player sees their co-op partner wasting a SHIT TON OF AMMO before a boss fight.

I was the mad one, and the experience of hearing my brother asking what the feck I was doing, then me saying "what are you on about? Shoot them! Shoot them!" was a true highlight of 40+ years of gaming.
Lock up your spoons!

I'm not yet finished the first level of Doom: Eternal, but playing on Nightmare setting is the most fun I've had with a game for some time. Halo 5, in comparison, feels like a repetitive slog.

Hang on a sec - you don't even have a brother.

I was a bit let down with Dead Space 3 at the time, and never went back to revisit it after completing the basic game, even after some lengthy DLC was released.
Could be I missed out without the co-op experience.

It's definitely a franchise I would like to see make a comeback - lots of potential.

One of the best games I've ever played. I recently finished the second DLC and all it's done is left me wanting more.

The only FPS that matches Dooms intensity would be Left 4 Dead 2, imo. And I've long since given up on the likes of COD and such.

In other gaming news - I'm currently replaying the first Doom game to get the Platinum Trophy. As good a game as this is it pails against the sequel.

Cheers

I don't know if any of you are familiar with a little film from the 70s about a spaceship that accidentally picks up a hostile monster, but they made a game based on it.

Started Alien: Isolation and bloody hell it's good. It feels like you're on the Nostromo hiding from the xeno.

I've said it before: possibly the best game I've ever played. Definitely in the top 5. Turn the lights down, turn the sound up. Enjoy. :)

I don't think I could manage this game in complete dark.  :o :)

Resident Evil 4

I got back at this older classic gem. While imo inferior to RE5, it's still miles away from dreadful RE6. One shortcoming though, I had to play original release for PC, instead of HD one (as I have issues with slow-mo and yes, I tried everything to fix that, to no avail) so I am stuck to 2007 version. I remember that I had the first time problems with control system, but I now plug in my gamepad and it works like a charm. I just passed the castle section, after defeating Salazar, arguably the longest (unnecessary)section in the game that takes 3 chapters; imo, it was a bit tedious and loosing momentum after splendid the village chapter. Horror-wise, I can see some chilling stuff here (Verdugo is a nasty fella and I haven't reached Regeneradors), but ultimately, this is just an action adventure game. A brief segment had me playing as Ashley, which diversified a gameplay s bit.

Definitely Not Mister Pops

I went back and played Just Cause 3. I know what you're thinking, you're thinking "Why did you do that, you handsome Genius?" and my answer would be "Just 'cos".

It is a fantastically fun game with a simple yet satisfying core gameplay loop:

1.Wreak Havoc
2.Unlock challenges like races and whathaveyou
3.Beat Challenges to upgrade your havoc-wreaking tools
4.Go to step 1

All of this on the absolutely gorgeous fictional Mediterranean islands of Medici. It avoids the stumbling block of appearing like a condensed theme park version of real place and actually feels like it could be a real place in the Med. Well it would if you ignore the lack of "lads on tour" that usually ruin these places.

My only gripe would be with the actual story missions, which, apart from a few cool set pieces, are mostly just escort missions. Even the novelty "Escort the Wine Barrels" mission gets old about 30 seconds into it.

However, this is one of the few sandbox games that managed to keep me engaged after the main story had been completed. By that stage you can get any vehicle/weapon airdropped in and then use your toolbox of tethers and rocket boosters etc to make all sorts of contabulous fabtraptions.

Then I played Just Cause 4, just 'cos I got it in a steam sale, and it appears that someone decided the previous game was too much fun and decided to piss all over it. Dull washed out colours, condensed theme park map and a core gameplay loop of:

1. Stay in this small area and shoot everything until a progress bar fills up.

I think someone must have realised they done fucked up, because one of the DLCs tries to bring back the fun from the previous game.
You may quote me on that.
