Definitely Not Mister Pops

It looks like there are a lot of Supermarine themed programs on BBC2 tonight. Is there some anniversary of which I am ignorant?
It is a Very Sexy Plane; it's between this and the Blackbird.

According to Wiki, the Spitfire's first flight took place on 5th March 1936, and it's 75 years since then. A late in the year for a birthday party, though, so that may not be the reason.
