Pang's great - I had the Speccy version which I liked well enough at the time. No idea how it stands up.
Has anyone played the much earlier Speccy game (which I think Pang basically ripped off) Bubble Buster?

I'm not actually aware of Bubble Buster. But here's a fun trivia factoid: The ZX Spectrum version of Pang was actually my first choice to review ahead of the Gameboy version. But it just suddenly and abruptly stopped working!

I still want to squeak that one out at some point, though. It's a pretty good port.

Quick update!

The show now has a Facebook page. So if you're active over there, feel free to give it a follow. I'm scheduling posts over there, and while it's mainly being used as another outlet to hopefully get some fresh eyes on the videos, I'm also planning to add some behind the scenes stuff from time to time.

A further update!

Quite unexpectedly, I happened across something I'd been after for a while. And there's a bit of talk of technical trickery I can use it for to do some stuff for the channel. Here's a link to a video I prepared for the show's Twitter account to explain in detail.

Bright side just copied a video made by Vox 2 years ago. They are literally the exact same video except bright side drags it out with shitty transitions and a 4 minus wiki reading about great whites. Shame on you bright side. what to do ??

After MUCH grunting, heaving and exclamations of 'push! PUSH!' I've got another video up on the channel. This one's skewed more toward current gen gaming, but it still has an eye on the old days, as I take a considered look at the 2016 PS4 remaster of ASSAULT SUIT LEYNOS.

It's got big robots! Fighting! In space! And more explosions than you'd find in Michael Bay's out-takes!

I've just belatedly uploaded the last video in this run. Being without a proper internet connection for almost three weeks threw a spanner in the works, but here's the latest - a review of ALTERED BEAST for the Sega Megadrive.

Now that this block of content's done, I'll be taking a few months out. Still got some odds and ends to come, though!

Regarding Pang, the Amiga version was excellent.  I did play the Speccy one too.

There's a PS4 game that's kind of similar.  It's called The Bug Butcher.  Pretty challenging but very fair.  I think I ended up platinuming that one.  It was very good.

Hallo, chums and pals!

I hope everyone's managing to hold on to their sanity during the coronapocalypse. Just ducking my head in to update this thread with news that I've just launched the third season of my Totally Unoriginal Gaming Show over on YouTube. So if any of you need something else to watch during isolation or an unproductive work-from-home day, here's the latest video. Herein I take a look at JETPAC, an old home computer classic, running on hardware that's ludicrously overpowered to run it.

Heads up, folks! In between lettering comics and managing family meltdowns during lockdown, I've been trying to get more stuff together for folks to watch if they feel so inclined.

So, here's the latest video on my gaming channel. This one's an oddity - a conversion of an old Namco coin-op that apparently never made it out of Japan, with a mythological feel. It's PHELIOS for the Sega Megadrive!

Great review of a pretty obscure game.
I have similar feelings to you about this one. It's an enjoyable game, well worth a play, but there are so many other great shooters on the MD that it struggles to compete.
I have to say I really like the graphics though. The colourful blockiness just looks great to me - and there's some nice parallax scrolling going on too. Most importantly the enemy bullets are easy to see.

Glad you enjoyed the review, James!

It's one of those cases where I wish I could have had some proper experience of the original arcade machine to make a proper comparison. Something that I couldn't really get to the bottom of, even though I did go looking for it in my research, was whether the blocky look of the graphics was an intentional downgrade.

From what I gather, the Megadrive / Genesis was able to shift things around much quicker on screen if they were lacking in detail. And this game really does ramp its pace up to a fair lick at times - all without screen flicker or slowdown. That's always a big deal with 8 and 16 bit action games.

Really pleased I was able to get my hands on this one to cover. It's an unsung gem!

Enjoyed the Jetpac review. But it also left me aching to see Sabrewulf and Knightlore in action again.
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

Enjoyed the Jetpac review. But it also left me aching to see Sabrewulf and Knightlore in action again.

I've hit a bit of a bump in production at the moment, but I've been weighing up how realistic it is to cover some proper home computer content for a while now. Those games aren't on my review pile as yet, but now that I've got a swanky new ZX Spectrum Next, I might see if I can crack into them for a full-blooded Speccy flavoured review when the timing's favourable.

Ah well, if you have a new Spectrum, is it worth doing an extended episode that covers the 8-bit 2000ad games? I really enjoyed listening to the history of them on the recent Thrillcast - would be great to see them in action (unless the YouTube version of the Thrillcast showed gameplay).

Btw: I bought and played SUBSURFACE CIRCULAR On the basis  of the review upthread. It was great... And what an ending!
Be excellent to each other. And party on!
