"Zombie luvin', had me a blast(gun)
Zombie luvin', happened so fast
I met a zombie, crazy for meat!
Met a survivor, cute as can be!
End of days, drifting away oh oh ... oh those zombie niiiiiiiiiights!

I have finally recovered after the festive period and thought I'd start a new thread, as the old one was getting a bit long in the tooth (heh, geddit?)

The End is Nigh continues apace! The articles and scripts are coming in, so within the next week I shall be farming out stuff to artists to draw, writers to write and dribblers to dribble!

But we still need:

http://zombies.monstrous.com/a_believers2.jpg"> humourous articles and short pieces - think Cosmopolitan or J17 ... but for zombies!!!!

http://zombies.monstrous.com/a_believers2.jpg"> Ideas for the Zombie Survival Guide!

http://zombies.monstrous.com/a_believers2.jpg"> Spot illustrations for articles

http://zombies.monstrous.com/a_believers2.jpg"> A serious look at whether zombies would signal the end of the world!

http://zombies.monstrous.com/a_believers2.jpg"> Biblical/religious verions or references to the undead i.e. do they herald the end?!

http://zombies.monstrous.com/a_believers2.jpg"> ANY advice on where we can get permission for the use of copyrighted photos from movies etc etc

Sendmail with your ideas - we need all the help we can get!!!

Cheers

I heartily recommend the End is Nigh to everyone. Before, I was a rotting zombie, trapped in a cycle of feasting on the flesh of the living and shuffling. Now, well .... at least I don't shuffle anymore ..."

Re: the old movie photo problem...

It's been my understanding that it's perfectly legal to publish stills taken from films, of which there are plenty on the internet and which are not to hard to get hold of, as long as you credit the studio or company/individual who holds the rights to the property.

longmanshort

Aaaaaaah, interestin'. Can anyone confirm this, just to be safe?

(lovely work on those features BTW Byron, any recommendations for particular films we should have images of to go with it?)

Personally, I'd go for the most interesting visually, and names/films that people would recognise, so a rough list might be:

-White Zombie (1932)
-I Walked With A Zombie (1943)
-Plan 9 From Outer Space (1958)
-Santo Contra los Zombies (1961)
-The Last Man on Earth (1964)
-Night of the Living Dead (1966)
-Dawn of the Dead (1978)
-Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979)
-La Invasion de los Zombies Atomicas (1980)
-The Evil Dead (1982)
-Re-Animator (1985)
-Return of the Living Dead (1985)
-Evil Dead II (1987)
-The Serpant and the Rainbow (1988)
-28 Days Later (2003)
-Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Also, viz the zombie/apocalypse link:
have you considered the contrast between zombie films and the ever growing public concern with plagues and epidemics. Much like the vampire/sex metaphor, you notice the switch in the use of zombies in films: from simple voodoo slaves of some evil genius, far away from civilisation; to the post 'NotLD' [Night of the Living Dead] zombies, which really are shambling reanimated corpses, obeying no master, their only compunction to eat flesh and prolong their meagre spark of life.

The most interesting disease comparison is the fact that, with modern zombies, they pass on their infection with a bite of physical contact in which bodily fluids are exchanged (much like the aforementioned vampire). Most obviously, you can see these influences in films from 28 Days Later [man-made chimp virus kills off most of Britain] to Night of the Living Dead [man-made sattelite 'probably' killed off America]. Even in Return of the Living Dead, the cause of the outbreak is American soldiers dumping weird, man-made, chemical 'ooze'.
In the wake of the supposed 'superbugs' like MRSA and HIV, the public has been whipped up into a hysterical shitstorm, the likes of which we haven't seen since people started to realise that unsightly boils weren't the only effect of the Bubonic plague that swept Europe, and might go some way to explaining the recent ressurgence in interest in all things zombie.

Similarly, given the recent tragic events in India, Thailand and Indonesia, you might want to look at the zombie phenomenon as a natural disaster - a huge plague overtaking the world in an almost Biblical sense.

You mean this ISN'T a thread about necrophilia?
I feel cheated.

Might also be worth using some pictures of the Amicus produced portmanteau horror anthologies:
Peter Cushing as Grimsdyke in Tales From the Crypt, or (if you can find them) some shots of Amicus' 'zombie hand' that was reused in many of their films - off the top of my head, it turned up in Dr. Terror's House of Horror, Tales From the Crypt, Vault of Horror, and From Beyond the Grave, but may well have been in more as well.

Italics off ... was that my fault?

MY IDEAR OF SURVIVAL AGAINST ZOMBIES.
TAKE ALL TINNED FOOD UPSTAIRS.
KNOCK OUT THE STAIRS AND TURN CLOSET UNDER STAIRS INTO PIT SO THE ZOMBIES CANT CLIMB UP THE STAIRS. WHEN A ZOMBIE FALLS IN HOLE LOOSE ROPE AROUND NECK AND DRAG UP DESTROY BRAIN. CONTINUE TO DO THIS AND DUMP BODYS OUT WINDOW THEN SET THE BODY ON FIRE USING GAS BOMBS MADE FROM BEER BOTTLES, CLOTHE, AND GAS TO DO SO BECAUSE IN SOME FILMS ZOMBIES ARE SCARED OF FIRE.
AND CONTINUE TO DO THIS UNTIL RESCUE OR ZOMBIES DIE DOWN. IF YOU WERE TO STUPID OR JUST WERENT ABLE TO GET FOOD USE ROPE TO CLIMB OUT WINDOW SCOUT FOR FOOD AND COME BACK. IF PERSON IS BITTEN BY ZOMBIE CHOP OFF BITTEN LIMB IMMEDIATLY, IF HE CONTINUES TO BE SICK KILL IMEDIATLY EVEN IF ITS YOUR MOTHER. AND THATS BASICALLY MY IDEAR OF SURVIVAL.
