It occurred to me that Squaxx who are now facing an axe-wielding-barbarian-shaped hole in their comic reading might want to ask their favoured purveyor of funny books to procure them a copy of Vault's Barbaric #1 — a 3-issue mini-series which might scratch that particular fantasy itch.

You can find a preview of #1 here.

That looks hugely entertaining- consider me sold.

That looks a slice of fun. I'm in.
An old-school, no-bullshit, boys-own action/adventure comic reminiscent of the 2000ads and Eagles and Warlords and Battles and other glorious black-and-white comics that were so, so cool in the 70's and 80's - Buy the hardback Christmas Annual!

I picked up the first two issues of this last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Did anyone else get it?

Vault's best-selling #1 by some margin, I believe. Also writer Mike Moreci's best-selling creator-owned book to date, and now on its third printing, so someone's been buying it. ;)

Indeed, I couldn't get hold of it during the original print run!

Mike's a terrific writer — I'm mildly surprised that his long-running Vault SF series, Wasted Space, hasn't got more traction in these parts. Imagine if Star Wars and Preacher got drunk in a sleazy bar and had meaningless, animal sex — the offspring would look a lot like Wasted Space. Currently nearing the end of its planned 25-issue run, but available in a series of trades. Well worth a look, IMO.

Sold, on this description and Barbaric being a good read. I've ordered the first trade.

Good man. Also, Hayden Sherman, the artist, is insane. As the series goes on, his designs and page layouts just get wilder but, somehow, always readable. ISTR, the description in the script for this spread just said something like 'maybe multiple images fanning out', so Hayden decided to draw sixteen concentric circles and seventy-five tiny panels with artwork in them...

(Nothing spoilery in there, BTW!)

Just reporting back to say that Jim was right about Wasted Space, it's a cool comic and I'm now onto the second trade.
I've done a little reading around it and seen some criticism of the art style, but I like it: the concept is cool and the story moves at a real clip. Thanks for the suggestion dude!

Wow, never heard of Vault Comics before but they've got a lot of top quality intriguing stuff on their list, will have to do some sampling. That page of art is proper stunning comics, reminds me of when Frank Miller was doing Ronin. Thanks for sharing!

Some quality horror stuff, too. Both 'The Plot' and 'The Autumnal' are excellent, in very different ways.
