Right tried both last night and still nothing. I've completely run out of ideas. I've run all the windows up dates done a malware scan etc etc and for whatever reason any page starting 2000adonline.com will not load whatever way I try to approach it but everything else seems fine.

Have to say I'm completely flummoxed. So both machines work fine. 2000adonline works fine but the two can't 'talk' so something inbetween isn't working? Could it be something to do with my ISP? Does anybody else who O2 broadband or any I completely off the mark thinking that could be the problem?

Caught up with this last night after being away for a week and what a fantastic entry. While I don't share your opinion on 'Bec and Kawl' , which for me it never got going, the point you make about a regularly reoccurring strip does lead to some interesting debate.

While 'Nikolai Dante' and 'Sinister Dexter' I think really played a significant part in David Bishop's rebuilding of the comic (as I've asked before was he brilliant in finding them, or lucky to get them?) They came about at a time when they were needed. 2000ad was at a low and there wasn't the depth of quality to sustain the comic. Aside from Wagner's return to regular Dredd duties, week on week it was all pretty hit and miss. Dante and S&D helped form a foundation that meant that normally there were at least 2, or even all 3, reliable very strong strips in any given Prog. This gave David Bishop the time and space to start to build up the reserves of talent to develop other stories and experiment a bit.

Today we have a very different situation. There is a massive pool of talent so the comic has no need to depend on any one creator and his work. One week it might be Kingdom, Flesh Shakara, Red Seas. The next Zombo, Savage, Ichabod and Damnation Station. Now how much you like these strips will vary from person to person but hopefully even if we don't like them ourselves we can all see the quality in them?

That seems like a far stronger position to be in if Ian Edginton sets up shop in the X-Men, so what we have Al Ewing doing his thing. Back in the 1000s if either Robbie Morrison or Dan Abnett had decided to up sticks... well let's just say thank god they didn't.

That said there's a difference between thinking the comic is in a stronger position for not having a regular 'number two strip' and wanting it to have one, which if I'm honest I'd really like.

On a side note as well I think both Dante and S&D have suffered from not still be that semi regular strip (or in fact strips). Particularly S&D which I'd happily see in the Prog every week and think is a strong enough strip to support that (I know others disagree there!). Shame Mr Abnett is so damned popular State side

What sort of error do you get? Does the page time out? Or do you get to the forum but are blocked? Are all computers in the household acting the same but you can access it somewhere else (if I've read that right)? Have you tried both http://2000adonline.com and http://www.2000adonline.com, can you access either?

The page just times out. In Chrome you don't get much info, just 'Opps can't load this page'a diagnostic on IE just ends up telling you it can't detect the problem.

Yeah both computers do the same thing at home but I can access it fine at work.

I haven't tried http://2000adonline.com will do that tonight and get back.

Okay started a thread about this in the Help section but this might be the place to ask. The new forum worked fine for me all pretty and stuff on Friday and I posted from home no problem. Since Saturday morning (about 6.45 damn that child) I simply can't get access and the error message I get suggests it can't get access to the website. So something changed somewhere between Friday evening about 7pm (when I last posted from my laptop) and Saturday morning.

I've read some of the bits here and cleared by cache etc.

I use Google Chrome by choice by also have tried IE7 which my wife uses and tried downloading Firefox last night. All of which work fine on all other websites (that I've tried) but just don't get a response from anything starting '2000adonline.com'.

The same is true for my PC upstairs in the attic (except I've not tried Firefox there).

Using Window 7 and have an O2 broadband connection. Not sure if any of that is relevant?

Anyway doesn't seem to be the PC settings as the same on two machines. Doesn't seem to be the browser as different browsers act the same? Doesn't seem to be a problem with my internet connection of other sites work fine.

So I was wondering can anybody suggest what i might try I'm well and truly stumped?

GENIUS!

So like the Planet of the Apes rose due to the desire for knock off 42 inch flatscreen TVs... I really hoped Caesar had loftier goals and all that!

Yeah I'd echo the call for Lobster Random any time. The strip would be knocking on my top ten of all time in 2000ad and may well barge its way into that exclusive club (I always avoid doing it I suspect I'd end up just hurting my head).

I personally love to see whatever happens to Tyranny Rex. The recent(ish) short story while not very good by John Smith normally immaculate standards seemed to promise more to come that never materialised and I've always loved the character and like the idea of John Smith have a regular strip in the comic. Though of course Indigo Prime could become that I always thought Tyranny was the one I'd like to see.

Gawd knows what McKenzie's thoughts are about the character. Clearly, he's at odds with Rebellion, which puts it into that limbo situation Zenith's in; but unlike Morrison—who you know full well would be able to sell a fuck-ton of Zenith on any publisher who printed it—can you really see Luke Kirby troubling the charts as an indie project? Far better to release it as part of the Rebellion 2000 AD books line.

Yeah that's the bit that confusing me about Luke Kirby is what does Alan McKenzie benefit from holding it back. It might of course be a matter of principal, but given he was the editor at the time (and I'm completely on the outside saying this so could be completely wrong) he'd be on rockie ground there?

Ultimately its sad that this stuff doesn't reach the audience it deserves but you gotta figure that each party has its case to make.

Help! / Unable to access from home?
08 August, 2011, 09:44:15 AM
Okay this is a bit weird. I don't seem able to access the site or forum from my home PCs. Been on holiday and when I got back Friday got into the site absolutely fine on our laptop. All good.

Then Saturday morning both the forum and the main site just timed out whenever I tried to get in on both Google Chrome (my preferred browser) and Internet Explorer. Okay so later I was up in the attic doing so stuff and tried the stand alone PC up there again on both browsers and nowt. Same problem Sunday so just assumed the site was down and with it being the weekend no one was about to pick it up.

Back in work today and just checked and its working absolutely fine and appears to have been all weekend? So I thought no problem just check it when i get home tonight. The trouble is I can't for the life of me think were to start checking why I can't get in from home? As i say two different machines and one of which I was able to use fine on Friday and I'm not aware of any changes having been made in the meantime?

Any suggestions?

I didn't realise that Brigand Doom was lost in right hell as others are? Makes sense when I think about it just never heard it said before.

As for Hilary Robinson's work there's some great stuff there, okay some comfortably miss the mark but Medivac 318, in particular the first book which is quite brilliant at times and Zippy Couriers is really good fun. As with Brigand Doom I didn't realise this was tied up as well?

Books & Comics / Re: skizz

I bloody love Skizz and certainly think its the best thing Moore did in 2000ad. Ranks  very highly out side the Galaxies greatest too (though Watchmen is long overdue a re-read).

Sure as people have said it wears its influences on its sleeves but when its influences are as good as Boys from the Black stuff who the heck cares. Some beautifully realised characters

Also a fan of the sequels, different, not at the same level but fun and heck who doesn't love some Jim Baike art.

send me a screenshot my man - w3bz@2000adonline.com and what browser you're using

Apologies for not responding to this. Been away. All good now anyway so hopefully all good?

Edited to add: And should say it looks bloomin' great as well. Love the new look.
