Finishing off the sorry tale, exactly the same thing happened today and I had to cancel the order and ask for a refund on the grounds of blatant taking the piss.

Waited in all day for City Link. Got nervous at around 3pm so called and was told the delivery would definitely be made by 5pm. Come 5pm with no delivery I phoned them again and was told the item has been stuck in Carlisle since last night. We're in Birmingham.

It's not the general incompetence, or the having had to wait in all day which I most object to - but the fact that the info from the 3pm phone call was a lie.
