Only fair, since I've been on such an unrelenting downer where the Meg is concerned, to post this ...

I really enjoyed this issue. Dredd was fun, I've always liked Armitage and I'm glad to see the miserable old bugger back, Bob is new to me, and Tempest is interesting enough for a first episode with nice art.

I'll certainly go back and work my way through the Grant interview as well.

That's quite a turnaround, and it would be churlish of me not to acknowledge it. Good work.

Cheers!

Very nice meg, and nice tie in to events in the Prog.

In fact probably works better read just before.

Nice start to Tempest as well.

Anyone spot the changes in Bob?

Is that a Ninja Judge? Dear God.

The only thing that would complete this cover is Dredd jumping a shark.

"Is that a Ninja Judge? Dear God."

You know what they say about covers? And books? And the not judging of the one by the other?

The series may turn out to be shite, but with Al Ewing writing, I have a feeling that it may be foolish to try and second guess the direction of the story ...

Cheers

Against Prog 2008 this stood no chance, but Dredd was good fun. Armitage looks like it'll keep me interested - I've not really seen much of this character before, but it's a welcome change.

Tempest? A bit ho hum, though I was enjoying the story until the last page when the title character actually showed up. Next month we'll probably have a better idea of where it's all going.

The rest of the Meg was same old same old, really (and not in a particularly good way).

COMMANDO FORCES

TEMPEST "To destroy is to enjoy!"

The byline for next months Tempest is "I sex you in the eye!" Oo'er missus.

Well that was a light year ahead of recent Megs. I'm hoping that the strip content stays the same in terms of page count. Three strips with a 10, 9, 9 format seems to work better than 10, 6, 6, 6 which didn't allow for satisfying stories and seemed vaguely satanic.

The Alan Grant interview is the most interesting one to date and I hope it's a least three parts. Even that wouldn't give full credit to the amount of work Alan has done for Tharg over the years.

Dredd was fun but I was convinced it was going to end with a startled P.J. waking up and complaining about Rarebit dreams. Any half decent Judge should be able to pin these crimes on 'Ambrose' so perhaps it'll come back to haunt him.

Dave Stone really impressed me with his last Bernice Summerfield audio and I was looking forwards to Armitage. There were some nice moments and the last line was very Dave but it's still too early to tell what's really going on. A better return than the last time round.

Tempest got off to a glorious start. I was really impressed by the story telling, and the art seemed a perfect match for the script. The moment when Kierkegaard leaves the bank was brilliantly well played. More like this please.

Bob was new to me but I enjoyed it, though after Ribos I was imagining Ian Carmichaels voice instead of W.C.Fields who would appear tbe obvious inspiration. Micawber, I presume? But great fun and I look forward to seeing what Lobo is turned into.

The Lost Girls review was interesting and the sort of thing I'd happily read more of. Big Bearded Transformer, eh?

Great Meg, back on form. Let's hope it can maintain this. Skipped the movie reviews though.

The Alan Grant interview is, indeed, three parts - and even that's only scratching the surface of his career. Still, some good stuff in there.

Excellent Meg - with more laugh out loud moments than you could shake a stick at.  And shaking sticks at things is easy.  Brilliant turnaround - long may it continue (or "Satanus is dead, long live the Meg").

Excellent Meg - I can't get enough of Mayor Ambrose,  in quite a bizarely touching story (his love just wanted him to be happy- awww...), and was pleased to see mention of him in Prog 2008 - I love the fact the Judges approve of him!  PJ Maybe is a great villain and every time you think he's been overused, Wagner proves you wrong.

I quite enjoyed Tempest right up until the ninja judge turned up, though maybe I'll warm to the idea once it gets going and his background becomes a bit clearer.  Finally, I have never been a fan of Armitage, but this episode made me want to keep reading.

Wasn't sure what to make of Bob the galactic bum, but it's Wagner, Grant and Ezquerra so I am sure it will be worthwhile.

Apart from the Grant interview, the rest of the text articles were left unread.  I hate all movies so wasn't interested in the reviews, the Lost Girls I have very little interest in despite liking both porn and Alan Mooe, and I already have my own opinions of all the dredd strips - I'd much rather see the space those articles take up used to reprint hard to find Dredd stuff (even if it's awful) such as the 2 Dan Dare annual stories filling up those pages, but it's not as if i didn't get a great Meg this week so I'm not complaining.

I agree. Although I found Armitage rather confusing (presumably I'm failing to understand a lot of the backstory) this was the best Meg for a while. The art on Tempest - particularly the peachy white cityblock backdrops - deserves a special mention. Has this lad appeared before?

Every thing that Jim said... only to add my poor heartsy sank when I saw that last panel/page of Tempest, it had been so good up to there.
