While I appreciate the Samaritans number . . . its like the whole thing that used to be said about a chinese meal, "In half an hour you feel hungry again".

For those unaware, Samaritans aren't trained counsellors (trained, yes, but not as counsellors), which is why they don't give advice (individual volunteers might, inadvertently, but it isn't the organisation's policy and is actively discouraged).

As Jade says, 'you feel hungry again' half an hour after (which can be true for a lot of callers), but the point of Samaritans is to be there for callers in the moment.

Out of curiosity (and coming to this thread far, FAR too late), but did anyone contact John Byrne regarding 'Judge Death Lives' Part One, page 5? It's hanging on his studio wall, behind his left shoulder.

Reminded yesterday it took me thirty years to realize there is an actual reason why 'La Isla Bonita' is so titled because that's what Madge sings and not "lucky stars for Nita".

There are loads of things that don't quite make sense but it's nothing that can't be sorted out.

Well, quite. Oh, sure they're GM gingers but why even have bio-chips when GI exceptionalism basically means they don't have to suit-up.

As long as the Traitor General somehow survives.

He does exactly that in Progue 238.

For the casting, I just think Ben Foster could be perfect

Bit short, nu?

When I was actively involved in a charity I used to carry a donation form for said charity folded in my wallet for just such occasions. By the time I finally had a chugger say she'd reciprocate, the sodding form fell apart when I opened it.

Throwaway comments do not a saviour make. But this is the problem with the two new movies, exemplified by that bollocks in THE LAST JEDI about using mind tricks to lift rocks. "Hey! That thing we jokingly mentioned in passing, earlier? No? Well, hellOHHHH anyway!"

Just completed my first rewatch and overall I didn't mind the stuff that grated in the cinema such as:

Luke throwing away the light sabre, his overall attitude - basically that's where he's at

Didn't work for me simply because the movies at no point depict Luke as being the acme of Jediliness. His fall from grace felt anti-dramatic because it seemed an obvious ruination given his weakness as a character in EMPIRE and RETURN. I doubt this was THE LAST JEDI's intention but I can see it being justified in hindsight.

As much as I detest THE LAST JEDI I must concede it's a fitting tribute for Luke. He was crap a Jedi despite a promising start but he came through in the end. Bit like his dad.

A certain 1995 Sylvester Stallone movie gets a nod among the various references.

They read the opiate of the masses, comics.

Truffaut had it drawn in Greek to elicit a genuine reaction from Werner.

Formulaic but fun. And probably the best Bond film since THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH.

In fact, now that I think about it, one of the things the Marvel movies tend to have in common is how well put-together the action set-pieces are — it's incredibly rare to not know who everyone is, where they are and what they're doing, even in big, multi-character action sequences. I've seen plenty of big budget action films in recent where that very much isn't the case.

Sadly, my local Cineworld remains clueless when it comes to picture contrast. I very nearly walked out during the jungle rescue because it was an effort sometimes to discern just what the fuck was happening. Ditto the casino and the subsequent car chase. And the various cave-based ceremonies. Likewise the final battle on the train track. So basically anything underground or at night. Which pretty much amounted to half the fucking movie.
