Tieran Trevallion or Colin Wilson - Artists Ryder Cup Current vs Classic - Tie 2

Current Team are edging this at the moment, though its still nip and tuck. Classic Team could do with a big week ... do they have anything in their bag to pull out this week.... well let's see.

Entering the fray today a second artist suffering the name Colin of the tourney and another personal favourite. Has any artist mastered the glorious rending of machines and vehicles the way Colin Wilson has? His world's look so functional and real but he also captures the energy and gritty grace of humanity like few others. No wonder we haven't seen too much of him as he's been snapped up by continental markets. He crashed out in the first round of the Classic Tourney much to my fury!

Mind Tieran Trevallion did the same in his tourney. Though he drew the irreplaceable Henry Flint. Tieran is a modern master of horror and the macabre. I posed the question had anyone mastered horror in Tharg's organ quite like Nick Percival and maybe our answer is here? Who do you prefer thoug?

Wilson's Dredd circa Crime Files,  plus Rogue circa All Hell are among my favourite 2000AD artwork of all.  Magnificent grasp of SF gubbins and mechanised wotsits. The early 2000s stuff I like but I'm not so completely crazy about,  and I'm not allowed consider his very best work in other venues.

Until recently TT would have had no chance against CW, despite his excellent Absalom and entirely admirable Mignola/Craig Russell leanings. But the most recent Fiends changed that for me: absolutely wonderful,  pulling that excellent McMahon Sláine trick of somehow looking like it was drawn at the time, despite being in no way being any kind of archaic pastiche.

It amazes me that I'd ever even think it, but I'm going Tiernen 3 : Colin 2.

Colin's work leaves me a bit cold, even though its precision is amazing. Tiernan has been brilliant on Absalom, Fiends and Ratfink.

This is a toughie. They're both under "awesome" for me. I do though have a soft spot for Tiernan's style, also being a fan of Mr Reardon who is very approximately similar style wise (at least to my mind).
