News / Re: Christmas Prog line-up revealed
« on: 25 November, 2022, 03:13:49 PM »
When Garth Ennis took over from John Wagner on Dredd / Gronk duties, I really hated that he was in the prog.  Now, he's kind of like Santa Claus - I get excited about his rare visits and the goodies he brings.

I'm glad it's him who'll accompany the last Kev O'Neill work that will ever grace the prog's pages.  Also, although I haven't hugely enjoyed a lot of Pat Mills' stuff over the last few years, it's a weird thought that this will probably be the last time we'll see him in the prog too.

Looking forward to the Christmas prog.

This ^^^ plus a GRenniedroid Dredd, oh my poor heartsies

Fish once really pissed off my mum by taking far too long in front of her in Haddington Post Office.

He's known for that. JK Rowling once got the last couple of pieces of salmon out the fishmongers when in front of me... it must be a fish thing.

The source material is vastly superior, as it the way with these things.

Just by way of counterpoint, I’m on record as not really being a fan of the comic but found the TV series surprisingly entertaining. My wife, who very much doesn’t do comics, loved it despite having zero familiarity with the original material.

I wish that I knew what I know now
When I was younger
I wish that I knew what I know now
When I was stronger
The can-can, such a pretty show
Steals your heart away
But backstage back on earth again
The dressing rooms are gray

Agreed, I bought Predator on a recommendation, and it is funa straight forward quest, but with the promise of action ahead.

Marvel Comics' Alien

Anyone else getting this? The first couple of story arcs were fine: on-board research station attacked by anti-corp activists, a religious cult world as a practice run for weaponised xenomorph, but the latest series reads like its been written by a fourteen year old Fantastic Four fan. One who hasn't seen the films or looked at Giger's original artwork. The characters are straight out of Small Soldiers but without the subtlety and pathos, while the dialogue is like an AI's cut and paste attempt at storytelling. The xenomorphs are easily dispatched by our heroes and they even meet (yawn) a group of young hip survivors.

No, no I didn't like it now you ask...
