Dreddbelly prefers Le Musee d'Orsay.

I'm with you there. Beautiful building. My wife and I invented 'Speed art' there.

Fond memories.

Events / D'Israeli coming to Sheffield
14 September, 2010, 06:07:54 PM
Hi,

Matt  Brooker aka D'Israeli is doing a talk as part of Sheffield wonderful 'Off the Shelf' annual festival. Thursday 28th October from 7pm in the Showroom. Any Sheffield board members fancy using it as an excuse for a meet up?

Anybody else welcome of course but Sheffield (or other South Yorkshire based) folk seem to be the practical option:

He's also doing a two day workshop at Hillsborough College but its for 15-18 year olds so even at my most optimistic I ain't making that!

Big fan of Dean Ormston. He might not have made my list but that's testament to the strength of Dredd's artist history rather than any reflection on the fella's talents. All added a lot to the strip and did some stella work on Judgement Day. Draws a mean Johnny Alpha too. Those eyes!

Aaagh! I can't boil it down to ten!

I find myself torn between choosing the artists I prefer (artistically) and the artists who've had the bigger impact on the character and the series. Sometimes the qualities coincide. Sometimes they don't. Confused? Me too!

Surely as a professional artist, who'd I'd guess knows some of the people on your liast (or who don't make it) who might punch the hardest you must be a factor?

NORM BREYFOGLE, NORM BREYFOGLE,  NORM BREYFOGLE....

Mind I'd also love to see a Pete Bagge Dredd. That'd get some comments I'm sure and would be genius.

Uhh and finally that Adam Hughes picture is lovely

News / Re: ROMITA JR. DRAWS DREDD

Its not bad, and good that it'll draw attention to JD in the US so all good.

The thing with John Romita Jr is he works best with a strong inker. His best work is his Daredevil stuff inked by Al Williamson and when inked by Klaus Janson he's pretty fine too. If either of those had inked this fella it'd have much better as it is it looks a bit insipid and half hearted.

Defo not. The 6 movies tell a complete story of Anakin Skywalker's rise, fall (by fall I of course mean the bits when he was really cool) and redemption. Leave um there I say. Also the new three are pretty horrible and have made me lose faith that adding to the stories has any worth.

IPete Milligan's run on X-Force / X-Statix was one of the greatest things Marvel have ever published. Don't be put off by the surface connections to the X-Universe - it's effectively in its own continuity.

Oh man yeah that stuff is gold, some of the best 'superhero' stuff out there. The Mike Allred art art is glorious as well.

A while ago over on 'Everything comes back to 2000ad' podcast they interviewed Keith Richardson (name?) the bloke in charge of 2000ad's trade programme and he said that reprints of 'Casefiles' were a priority, over and above other reprints, as they sell so well. To that end it will get reprinted at some point, can't say when however.

Yeah I do know what you mean Grant, though to be fair I think Batman and Robin has been pretty easy to follow. All you need to understand is Dick Grayson took over a Batman as Bruce Wayne
seemed to die
and it reads as good Batman stories?

At least that's my take though to be fair my view is off a little as I know most the stuff going on. I haven't yet read the Batman issues and I'm doing fine.

Alas and criminally the Alan Grant Batman stuff has never been collected. Its discussed here

http://www.2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,29599.0.html

Fair to say that John Wagner only wrote about the first 5 issues with him so don't get too distracted by that. Its wonderful stuff and the Norm Breyfogle art is still definitive to me.

Without wishing to put you off the Morrison Batman stuff, well it depends how far back you want to go. Personally I'd pick up his 'Batman and Robin' run (first three issues with Frank Quitely art) available in hardcover only at the moment but the single floppies should be easy enough to get hold of. If you enjoy that work back from there?
