To all forum members,

It is with a sense of great sadness that I must announce on the 17th of March 2010 I will be leaving the 2000AD forums and my position as System Administrator, as well as my position of web goon at Rebellion - for on the very next day I will be boarding a 747 headed for Australia.

I've had both a great time on these forums, helping you guys out, fixing issues and tweaking features, as well as working at Rebellion and helping with their websites, and I hope this place doesn't go to hell without me.

I don't know if you guys will get a new goon to replace me, or if W3bz will be the one keeping an eye on this place, but to help with moderation we've finally decided to hand some of the responsibility over to a group of volunteer moderators - and they are:

Bolt-01
Emperor
His Lordship rac
House of Usher
Mike Carroll

These guys will be making sure you don't wreck up the place, will be taking out the trash in regards to reported posts, and helping out W3bz and Wake with the current moderation load.

I wish you guys all the best for the future [spoiler]and I'm still here for 3 days so don't go all lord-of-the-flies just yet[/spoiler]

Wiki / Problems when editing pages / permissions
20 January, 2010, 10:10:22 AM
Anyone having trouble editing pages on the Wiki, or who sees a permissions error:

You need to logout and log back in again.
You may also need to ctrl-F5 the page, to force a refesh.

Edit: Also fixed an issue with IE8 where the subdomain independant cookies weren't being shared.

Thanks to Paul for pointing this out.

If you're still having problems, post below.

Yes, we now have a Wiki for the community to fill up with all things 2000AD!

It doesn't feature on the front page or have any links to it on the flashy banner, but thats a technical issue rather than laziness. While it's in beta and contains hardly any original data it'll stay off the front page.
Hopefully you guys can adopt the Wiki and before long it'll be up there alongside the News button.

The stickied thread explains the majority of all things related to interaction, so give that a read if you've never used a Wiki before, or want to know whats special about this one.

Where we're at

I've spent the last week setting up a converter to grab all the data from the Vault and jam it into the Wiki - 99% of the data make it unharmed, but there are still some sketchy elements. If you spot any, feel free to fix them.

Progs, Megs, Creators, Characters and Series all use templates to organise their data. You can see this by going into a Prog and hitting the "Edit" tab.
I'd like to keep all progs, megs, specials and graphic novels using these kinds of templates, so please keep using them where possible.

All articles are missing data, or have terribe, terrible images. Feel free to browse through characters and series and things and update their pictures, or fill out their statistics and whatnot.

Stories, all 3,319 of them, are missing a synopsis and list of character appearances.

Speaking of character appearances, feel free to name or create articles for not only main characters but bit-part characters and villains and things. The Wiki, unlike the Vault, has room for everyone.

Progs and Megazines all need their Captial field filling out, which is the prominent themed text line that features on the front of the cover.

All specials and graphic novels need adding, even by name. If you happen to have a 2000AD graphic novel set next to you, type in the title into the address bar and create a new page for it.

Finally..

Don't get angry or moan about other peoples utilisation of the Wiki - its a collaborative effort and anyone can edit it, including you. If you spot claring mistakes, feel free to change them.

Be civil, be patient, and report any problems you can't fix yourself.

Have fun guys, I hope you can make something good out of this.

Wiki / 2000 AD Online Wiki - It hungers for content!
12 January, 2010, 10:00:51 AM
2000 AD Online Wiki

Getting Started

Q: Whats all this then?
A: A while back we decided that the collective community has a wealth of knowledge that far exceeds our own (we only work here), along with a willingness and dedication to make the sites horde of information better than it already is.
To that end, we've set up a Wiki for you guys and gals to get stuck in to.

Q: How do I login?
A: The Wiki is tied into the 2000AD forum software for its logins - clicking the Login button on the Wiki will bring you to the forum, and it should send you back to the wiki once you've logged in.
If you get banned from the forum, you get banned from the Wiki.

Q: Oh god I'm unsure about this, what if I break it?!
A: It's a wiki, you can't break it. Go hog wild! Make and modify as many articles you feel appropriate, and others will come along and fix your mistakes, correct your facts and rearrange the place to be more organised.
If you're still worried then load up the sandbox article and try out anything you're unsure of there.
It is far better to contribute and have your contribution modified, than not to contribute at all!

Q: But I've never contributed to a wiki before...
A: That's not a question. Secondly, wikis are incredibly easy to navigate and edit - simply browse around by clicking on links and when you spot something you want to change/edit/add, hit the Edit tab the top of the page.

Q: Wiki syntax is horrific, how am I supposed to remember things?
A: I know it's terrible. Here's Wikipedias cheat sheet for syntax, which out wiki adheres to. That should make your life a lot easier.

Q: Are there any rules or guidelines?
A: Yes! Be sure to give them a ganders on the about page.

Contributing, or, how you can quickly help

Stub Articles
We have a number of stub articles, which is extremely short articles that have been marked as stubs. These pages desperately need more content, so see if you can add to them.

Short Pages
Just like stubs, short pages badly need more content. Have a look through the list of short pages - if you know anything about the topic, feel free to add more content, otherwise you might want to mark it as a stub and move on to another.

ToDo List
We have a number of large and small tasks on the wikis ToDo List as well as a number of categorised tasks big and small. Take a look through and see if you can help sort out any of those issues.

Wanted Pages
There are a lot of articles which are entirely empty and require content. These are known as wanted pages. Go through the list and see if you know anything on those topics.

Editing

As well as contributing we need a whole lot of editing to be done.

Recent Changes
Check out the Recent Changes for a list of articles people have just updated, then go over their changes and correct any issues or mistakes.

Citation Needed
If during the course of reading an article you come across something you're not sure is factually correct or has no basis, you can make it as [citation needed] by including the following code:
{{citation needed|text=reason you think citation is requied here}}
Be sure to change the next and supply a reason for the citation, such as "when did he travel through time?".

Dead End Pages
When an article doesn't link anywhere else, it becomes a dead end page. You can better the wiki by editing in links to other pages, even if those pages don't exist.
For instance:

Dead end article:
Dredd lives in Mega City One.

Good, linked:
Dredd lives in [[Mega City One]].

Creative Common / 2000AD Smilies: Make your own!
18 December, 2009, 05:01:33 PM
You might have noticed I've fixed the smilies - we now have a consolidated smiley set (the phpBB3 style, as voted in by you guys).

What this means is we can now add some custom smileys to the forum. Seeing as this is the official 2000AD forums, I don't want to just add any garbage willy-nilly, so there are a few rules.

what rules?

Can't be offensive.
Must not look hideous.
Must be of the same style as the current smilies.

Same style?

Yeah. Basically we want the smilies to all look similar and not a mish-mash of different head styles.
To help you guys out with that I've made a .psd file (zipped attachment) with a bunch of different facial features and a blank face for you to work from. I've included my attempt at a Judge Dredd smiley so you get an idea of what to do.

Once you've made the smiley pixel-by-pixel, resize the image by 50% (from 40x40 to 20x20 pixels) and you'll have a nicely aliased smiley, with soft edges.
Save this as a .gif and attach it to your post.

Go hog wild!

Some of these rules are obvious, some of them not so much.
These rules stop people getting ripped off and keep this place a little more organised, so ensure you've read them before you make a thread.

These rules augment the existing Forum Rules unless stated otherwise.

Fraud and Accountability

We take no responsibility: None of us take any responsibility for ANY transactions that take place here. If you don't get the item you paid for, that is your problem. If you get an item you paid for and it is broken, that is your problem. If somebody does not pay you money they owe you, that is your problem. We simply do not have the time, resources, money, or know-how to investigate every so-called "fraudulant" transaction here. You are using this forum at your own risk.

We won't hold people accountable: There is NO way for us to determine if PERSON A or PERSON B was ripped off during a sale between the two. It's simply one person's word against another's, so we are unable to conclusively determine who's lying. As a result, do NOT complain to the mods about somebody ripping you off because we have no way to figure out if you or the other person are telling the truth.

Paper Trail: Don't respond to emails or other forms of communication off this forum unless they have posted in your thread. IE: if you get emails or aimed about an item, make sure that you have them post in your thread.  If they don't and something goes wrong it makes it very difficult to take any action against them.

Banned Items

No illegal items: This includes guns, drugs, warez, murder squads, various other obviously illegal items.

None of these:

  • CD Keys.
  • Ebooks or electronic texts, unless you own the copyright.
  • Beta software or Beta keys. Just because it's beta doesn't mean you own it.
  • Mod chips or modded equipment. This includes services to mod devices, be they games consoles, set to boxes, etc. Anything which allows pirating or theft of goods/services.
  • Loans or other types of money exchange.
  • Payment for signing up to a service of any kind.
  • Payment or trading of essays, research or homework.
  • Accounts on other services. This includes WOW accounts.

Etiquette

This isn't a discussion board: Try not to start a discussion in threads which which are purely for buying or selling. If you want to discuss that particular game/comic/film then take it to another subforum.

All sale threads must have an asking price: ALWAYS include an asking price when you create your sale thread. Any items without an asking price affixed will assume to be on sale for 1p. If you don't know the value, look it up or post a valuation thread.

Tell people where you're based: Sometimes it's easier to collect an items than to post it, and sometimes you'll be selling someting in the USA while someone who wants to buy it is in Lithuania. If you don't post where you are then people don't know if buying that life size granite Judge Dredd is feasible.

Proof of high-value items: If you are selling an expensive item then you should post a picture of said item. This MUST be an ACTUAL picture of the item you are selling (not a stock photo), and if you can include yourself and your username in picture then that's a plus. If you don't do this then it's perfectly reasonable to expect to be asked for it before people put offers down.

Q&A

Q: How many times can be I bump my thread before it becomes silly?
A: Bump your thread a maximum of two times before assuming nobody is interested. It's your choice when you bump the thread, and don't get indignant about it.

Q: I don't know how much this stuff is worth, what should I do?
A: Depending on the item you can check either Ebay and/or Half.com to get a good idea of how much stuff is going for. If you can't find anything on those, post a valuation thread before following it up with a sale thread.

Q: I've been ripped off, what do I do?
A: Firstly, contact a staff member about it so we at least know whats going on, although we can't take any real action. Secondly, http://www.trollhunters.com/ is a good reference to start from. I can't stress enough how important it is to keep track of your sales here and keep the other party in the loop. When in doubt AT LEAST send an email to one another if there is a problem. Be responsible; don't neglect the other party just because you got the money and will get around to sending out what you sold when you feel like it. Same thing with buying, you say you are going to buy and end up changing your mind - say something quick. We will not tolerate wishy-washy buying and selling.

Thread Types

Here are some thread template/examples to make everyones life easier:

Buying

Title: "BUYING: [insert item name here]"

[b]Looking For:[/b] DVD of Random Filmname
[b]Asking Price:[/b] £6, £8 with case, £10 with everyhting good condition
I've been looking for this thing for years.

Selling

Title: "SELLING: [insert item name here]"

[b]Item Name:[/b] Some figurine
[b]Location:[/b] Oxford, UK.
[b]Price:[/b] £10 ono.
[b]Description:[/b]
Picked this up a while ago and it's just been sat on my shelf.
Some minor scratches on the base (pictures by request) but otherwise untouched.
Both arms rotate and you can even pose the character.

Valuation

Title: "VALUATION: [insert item name here]"

[b]Item:[/b] Almost complete collection of Comicname, issues 3-607
[b]Description:[/b]
Been collecting these for years but run out of room and need to drop them
off to a good home, but don't have any clue what value these are, though.
As best I can tell, 50% are in mint condition, wrapped in plastic,
while 20% are quite faded and a few are dogeared.
Have issues 3-607, missing from that batch are issues 245 through 256, 123, 78 and 4.
Are any of these high-value? I can post pictures of ones that might be on request.

Thanks!

Classifieds / Prospective Classifieds Rules thread
07 December, 2009, 10:30:17 AM
Over the weekend there was a post in the Website subforum asking about a set of rules for the Classifieds subforum, mostly due to all the new people signing up.

Because of this I've copied and modified some rules from a similar forum. I figured I'd make this stickied thread open to discussion, because I don't actually use the classifieds forum or spend much time here - so you guys should probably have a little input on these.

So, here we go.

Fraud and Accountability

We take no responsibility: None of us take any responsibility for ANY transactions that take place here. If you don't get the item you paid for, that is your problem. Website and Forum / Forum restriction on member signup
30 November, 2009, 02:54:21 PM
So I had one of those crazy ideas again today. How about:

- When a guest (logged out user) browses the forum, they can see all the forums.
- When a new member signs up, they can only see the Welcome board until they have posted once (in the welcome board).

I thought this would cut down on some of the 1400 members who have signed up but not posted, ensure people at least walk past the Forum Rules post, and maybe centralise fresh spam.

Please post below to tell me how much of a bad idea this is.

Website and Forum / Pick your favourite smiley
16 November, 2009, 09:58:13 AM
As discussed in this thread, we're considering adding 2000ad themed and other custom smilies to the forums.

Some of you might not be aware of this, but you can actually select between a choice of three different smiley styles right now; SMF, PhpBB3 and SA. If we start adding custom smilies I don't really want to maintain 3 different lists, and I'd prefer the custom smileys to be of the same "theme" rather than having hodge-podge of different appearances.

For this reason, I now invite you, if you knew you could choose or not, to pick your favourite smiley sets from the following list.
You can pick up to two, and the one with the highest results will become the default.

>:(^-^:D8):'(:-[>:D;D???:-*:-X::):(:o:):P:-;)

Classifieds / Classifieds - Spice the place up a bit?
25 September, 2009, 12:32:48 AM
Hey guys and girls, I've been looking around the classifieds and wondering if a few modifications couldn't help the place out. Please give the few ideas a read and post your comments below.

Rules

It might be about time we had some rules regarding these threads as sooner or later I can see someone getting ripped off (if it hasn't already happened) and the fallout being troublesome.

I havn't given any thought to the rules we might need in here, but other forums seem to have success with the following batch:

Quote
1) Nobody takes any responsibility for ANY transactions that take place here.

2) Do NOT start a thread selling something that you don't plan on selling. If you create a thread like "SELLING MY LOVE!", then you will be suspended.

3) If you want to ensure a safe transaction, use http://www.escrow.com/, a site which makes sure both buyer and seller are protected.

4) There is NO way for us to determine if PERSON A or PERSON B was ripped off during a sale between the two. It's simply one person's word against another's, so we are unable to conclusively determine who's lying. As a result, do NOT complain to the mods about somebody ripping you off because we have no way to figure out if you or the other person are telling the truth.

5) NO SHADY ILLEGAL ITEMS MAY BE SOLD! This includes cd keys, beta software, guns, drugs, warez, murder squads, various other obviously illegal items.

6) No type of Money exchanges. (PayPal for Neteller, etc).

7) No trading of Ebooks or electronic texts you don't own the rights to.

8) Safe money transactions include mailing a bank check, cashier's check, or money order. This may take a couple days, but you will at least have the transaction on record. NONSAFE methods include sending an envelope full of cash.

9) If you're not interested in purchasing or selling something, then don't post. The discussion should stay about the item being sold. If it begins to spin into a "Wow, I like that too!" or "That game sucks, because xxxx" take it to another forum/PM/email/somewhere else.

10) Please do not reply to threads with links to places where you can find what the seller is selling cheaper. I.e. if someone is selling a game, don't reply to thier thread with a link saying people can find the game cheaper there. If you feel the need to tell this person they are asking too much, contact them OFF the forums and they can decide if they want to lower the price.

11) Do not deal with anyone that hasn't posted in your thread. IE: if you get emails or aimed about an item, make sure that you have them post in your thread. If they don't and something goes wrong it makes it very difficult to take any action against them.

12) If you are selling an item for £25 or more, you must post a picture of said item. This must be an actual picture of the item you are selling (User name in picture is a plus) not a stock photo.

Trusted Users Only

Perhaps we should lock down this forum so that only "trusted" users can buy or sell from here? This would stop shady types signing up to purchase or sell in the classifieds area and rip people off.

I'm suggesting that you can only see/post in this forum if you've posted, say, 10 posts. This might at least help us guage the person we're dealing with.

Thread Tagging

It might be worth introduce a system whereby we request threads to be prefixed with the text of either "BUYING" or "SELLING" to indicate the purpose of the thread.
IE: "BUYING - All progs from 1987 onward"

Pay it Forward

I don't know if anyone else has been on major forums with Pay it Forward threads, but they are threads were items of little value can be advertised and traded freely, without any monetary exchange.

The system is simple - you must advertise an item to give away in order to request an item from another user. The item you give up should be of relatively the same value as the item you're requesting.

An example:
User A offers up some playing cards, a cup and a hat in the thread.
User B offers a necklace in the thread.
User C requests the playing cards from User A, and in exchange offers a stuffed toy in the thread.
User B requests the stuffed toy from User C.

User A offers a bunch of items up for grabs, while user B spots an item he wants from User A and requests it, while offering another item in its place.
User C has already offered up an item, so can request an item from user B.

The cycle should be self-sustaining so long as people are interested in making these free trades. You can charge the recipient the cost of postage if you wish, and shipping details should probably be sorted out over PM.

The only way these threads fall down is if someone doesn't/hasn't offered up something of equal value - such as requesting a music CD and offering back a pencil.

Welcome to the board / 2000AD Online Forum Rules
08 September, 2009, 10:59:30 AM
Alright folks, here lie the rules to the 2000AD Online forum.

These rules are here to improve the quality of everyones forum experience, so please give them all a read as they need to be followed if you want to keep your account. If you break a rule you will likely be punished for it [see "Punishments" below].

Posting Rules

English Only: Just as we expect you to be able to read these rules, we expect to be able to read your posts. Do not use "txt spk" or "l33t sp34k" in your posts (unless theres a good reason, such as satire).

Account Accountability: Please don't create more than one account or create "gimmick" accounts. Likewise please don't share your account with other people.

Hazardous Waste: Don't post anything which can screw up the forum or mess with other forum users. Posting mallicious links (spyware, annoying code in websites) will get your link erased and your account suspended.

Spam: There is absolutely no place for any kind of spam anywhere on this forum. If you run a shop and wish to advertise your services here, contact a staff member and we'll work something out.

Repeat posting: Don't double or triple post on purpose - theres an edit button for a reason. If the edit timer has expired then wait until someone else replies before adding your next point.
Repeat posting offences, especially ones that are just to reiterate a point you've already made, are the fastest way to get yourself suspended.

Necroposting: Generally, don't do this. And certainly do not post to a very old thread unless you have something substantial to add to the conversation AND it's relevant and timely to resurrect such an old thread.

Spoiler Policy: Spoiler tags are [spoiler] or use the button . They're used like any other forum tag to surround text. Spoilers are sensitive information, events from any recent books, etc.

  • Anything inside the forum "Spoilers" category, such as the review boards, are exempt from the spoiler policy. Spoilers need not be used in those boards.
  • If you're talking about a comic that has been out for less than a month or the following issue hasn't yet shipped please use spoilers. If a comic has been out longer than a month or the following issue has shipped then don't use spoilers. You can still use them to be polite, but don't stress over it.
  • Known future events should be spoilered. If you work at 2000AD and you know Judge Dredd is going to grow another arm in prog 1697, spoiler it.
  • Speculation is a special case - speculation based on spoilers should be spoilered. Speculation based on nothing in particular doesn't need to be spoilered.
  • Try to lead into your spoilers so we can tell if we want to know the subject matter before we start reading them:
Good: The bad guy [spoiler]got away[/spoiler] because Dredds [spoiler]gun fails to fire[/spoiler].
Bad: Judge Dredd [spoiler]dies[/spoiler] when he gets shot.
Bad: [spoiler]See, you had no idea what may have been here before you moused over it.[/spoiler]

Member Conduct

Respect the Staff and 2000AD Creators: The staff keep this place nice and tidy and habitable, while the 2000AD Creators provide extremely good insights and are nice to have around. Do not harass or intentionally annoy either of these people.

Disagreements: From time to time you will disagree with eachother on certain subjects - please try to respect other peoples views and if you wish to enter into debate, provide reasonable arguments for your differing viewpoint and do not resort to personal attacks, flames, harassment or insulting.
Sometimes you may not be able to win an argument through the sheer stubborn nature of your opponent - it's their perogative if they want to believe that the earth is flat. Rather than get worked up about it or insult them, it may be better to just walk away.

Ignorance is Bliss: If you really can't stand someone there is always the ignore button , which will hide their posts from view.
You can easily un-ignore a user, or even view their posts content while they are ignored. Try it out!

Forum Drama: If someone is harassing you on the forum then please attempt to resolve your differences over PM or email rather than in a thread. We don't need personal disagreements clogging up and derailing threads. If the problem persists, you can try to ignore the user or report their harassment.
Do not enter into flame wars, personal character attacks or threaten others users, post peoples personal details (addresses, phone numbers, emails, etc.), and please keep in mind there is a distinction between the internet and real life.

Hate Speech: All kinds of offensive terms may or may not be rule breaking depending entirely on the context they are used in and the staff member reviewing your post. Use these words at your own peril.

Images and Files

Keep all images work safe: Do not post anything pornographic, illegal or disgusting. Ask yourself "would my boss or mother be happy viewing this image?".

Image Sizes: Please keep all images to below 800 pixels in width. If you wish to post an image larger than this, either link to it or attach it to your post.

No Warez: Please don't attach or post links to anything illegal or shady, such as warez, cd keys, serials, cracks, copyrighted material, etc. You may post links to legitimate downloads or "audio sample" clips 45 seconds or less.

Signatures: Keep in mind that each time you post your signature shows up. Try to keep these to a sensible size and non-irritating, otherwise it will be deleted by a member of the staff without notification.

Punishments

Softly Spoken: In most instances of rule breaking you will simply be contacted by a member of staff and told not to do it again, and we will clean up any mess that has been created. You'll get off scot free, so count your blessings.

Suspension: If you fail to heed a prior warning about breaches of the rules, or break a particularly strict rule, you wil temporarily lose the ability to post for an amount of time suited to the offence.

Bans: Intentional repeat offences or particularly bad offences (illegal activity, spam, etc) will lead to an outright ban from the forum, both posting and viewing.

Forum Etiquette

Here are some rules more related to specific posting points.

Someone said my opinion was stupid!
While flaming and straight insulting people is more or less against the rules, if you do have a rediculous opinion then don't be suprised if someone calls you on it. If you find yourself using any of the following phrases, you may wish to stop and re-think your position:

  • "If X does Y, I'm giving up Z comics forever."
  • "X is abusing my childhood/nostalgia/history/favorite character."
  • "Anyone who likes X is a moron."

That guy has a stupid opinion.
Feel free to call him out on his opinion, but don't insult him. Flaming is against the rules, so explain why his opinion is stupid.

This guy won't stop flaming me!
Use the report button. Flaming back will only get you in trouble as well.
If you don't report it, we won't see it, and nobody gets held accountable.

Nobody is posting in my thread!
People may find your post to be of general interest and not feel the need to reply. Please don't bump your thread more than once, and don't be indignant about it.

Those guys should be banned because ...
Don't backseat mod in any thread, it'll get you suspended. You can still give people a friendly warning that they may be breaking the rules, but in most you should PM a staff member who can forward it up the chain or use the report button and cram your reasons into the tiny box provided.

I wrote a fanfic, can i...
You can take it to the Creative Common, but pray to god it's good.

Things That Annoy the Staff

  • Thread titles that don't summarise the subject of the thread
  • Backseat modding
  • Reports that don't explain what the problem is
  • Quoting the entire post directly before yours
  • Quoting the entirity of a large post for no reason
  • Forum Drama

Final Words

Crazy Catch-all: Don't try to be clever and circumvent the rules or their wording - these are guidelines for the staff and as such are very flexible, both in and out of your favour.

Exceptions: Each rule has its exceptions and enforcement of the rules is entirely at the discression of the staff. If you think you have a thread worthy of being posted but think it may break one or more of the rules, please contact a member of staff first and get it authorised before posting.

Futureproof: These rules may change at any time without warning.

We try our best not to punish the innocent or unitentional offences, and we expect most people will never have a problem with any of these rules.

New to the forum? Post a new thread and introduce yourself to the other board members!

To the current board members: I can't think of anything else to say here, I just want it to be a quick easy read and encourage new users to post. Anyone got any suggestions for additional things to say?

News / Ban-tastic Friday: Scojo Appreiciation Station
04 September, 2009, 11:32:10 PM
While its true that the scurge of Scojo is a blight to any community, there was a lot of drama today which could have been avoided.

Firstly we've had the Cursed earth story thread, which slowly dribbled down the drain due to a small prank and a few spikey remarks.

PeterWolf and King Trout were temporarily banned by w3bz for 24 hours (the sortest time we can do), which has now been liften, in order to let them settle down. PeterWolf maybe got the short end of the stick here as he hadn't really done anything except retaliate, but King Trout seemed to be calling out the mods to do something about him.

Problem Point: We are not here to settle disputes between boarders or to take sides. This is why you were both "suspended".

If two people get into a heated argument on the forum and start throwing insults, its not part of our job to work out whose right and wrong. You can bicker and scream and insult eachother all day long for all we care, so long as no threats are made.

Problem Point: We don't, however, appreiciate back-seat mods, or having our jobs dictated to us.
This is the reason the suspension came down, and it was across both accounts to ensure no mistake about not picking sides. We prefer broader measures over false favouritism.

I apologise for the fact the temporary bans were not made clearer to the users who were suspended. W3bz has a much shorter tether when it comes to settling disputes than I do.

As I said, both accounts have had their bans lifted, that thread has been locked, and unfortunately PeterWolf appears to have unregistered his account. I'll be disabling that "feature" from now on.

Problem Point: Remember that you're arguing on an internet forum.
If you're getting angry then you're using the forums incorrectly. Know when to walk away from an argument and don't try to get the last word in, because you can't.

Scojo, for those who don't know (like me about 6 hours ago), is a name of a person who was on several communities and plagued them quite badly.
His posting style is fairly unique, and he tends to have a negative disposition even if he likes the core subject matter.
He has a tendancy to both post and praise his own work, even if its quality can be questionable. This leads to his being criticised (constructive or otherwise) and more often than not he fails to heed such criticism, resulting in yet more criticism and goading, until insults start to fly.

As best I have been able to work out, the above criticism led to his character being questioned and becoming unwelcome in many threads. This coupled with his frequency to post caused an alienation between him and other posters, and one day he went a step too far and made false claims about members and creators alike.

Scojo was banned from this and many other communities, a ban which stands today.

Today, Jim Campbell after watching user "planetoid" for some time, claimed that he (planetoid) was Scojo masquerading under another name. As Scojo has done this in the past, thus it is more than likely. Several other users followed suit in this belief and thus another thread started to spiral down the drain as arguments errupted. I was forced to temporearily lock that thread and edit some posts elsewhere to stop the issues spreading.

Problem Point: If you have an issue with another user on the forum which extends past simple arguments, please contact us directly rather than shitting up a thread.

I started reading up on Scojo and checked out planetoid. Thus far planetoid hasn't made any posts which would lead me to ban him - he's made good attempts at participation in threads and despite showing a slightly zealous attitute towards his beliefs and denying criticism of any degree, theres not a good reason to fault him. For this reason he has remained an active member.

Problem Point: Planetoid never actually posted anything particularly volatile, just snide.
You guys let the issue wind you up simply by his suspected presence than due to any real threat to the community. If I signed up an account called Scojo and made a few pleasant posts you wouldn't be commending Scojo on his reformed posting style, you'd be crying for his ban and running for the hills.
Strong communities are only as strong as their members.

Inversely to planetoids civility, I've been reading up on Scojo's posting habits on the 2000ad news groups and the more planetoid posts on these forums, the more his posting style reflects that of Scojo's in the past.

I've been very cautious about risking banning innocent users, and there is no solid proof linking planetoid and Scojos many accounts.
It was over 100 posts by planetoid before Jim called shenanigans, and planetoid has only made the odd snide remark, rather than posting anything insulting, despite many people goading him.

However, as Wakes ban for Scojo still stands, planetoids posting styles match Scojos so heavily, and so many users are crying out for the ban to be effected, I've decided to ban planetoids account from the forums.

Planetoid, I take no joy in banning your account and I do so under request of the community.

You've been banned as your posts are in the same style as Scojos and quite frankly I would be suprised if you're not the same person.
In the likely event you are Scojo, I'm sorry the community did not feel they were in a position to give you a second chance as a regular poster, but I can tell you why this is:

  • You don't listen to other posters, accept their criticism or point of view.
You might think you've listened to their point, but you really need to take it on board and not just discard it.
They're people like you with their own reasons - you need to understand those reasons in order to supply a counter argument. Failure to understand a person results in conflic.

  • You post way too much about things people are not interested in.

  • You reply to your own threads multiple times even when nobody has shown interest in them.
Apart from making the forum a mess and bumping worthless topics, this shows way too much interest in yourself rather than in participating in the community.

  • You masqueraded behind a new assumed identity.
You were bound to be found out eventually, and attempting to assume a new identity was an abject failure.

  • You have not attempted to endeer yourself to the community.
Sure, you try to post nice, but the previous events on other forums which have made you so incredibly unlikable have not been apologised for. The collective community do not want you around as you cause trouble.
The only way you can ever expect to rejoin the community is to come right out, apologise for any past misdeeds and accept any previous misunderstands. You need to ask for the communities forgiveness and acceptance. If the community decides not to give you a second chance, you should leave the community alone. If they give you that chance, you should tread carefully.

Your lack of honesty and willingness to accept responsibility and repent your sins on these and other communities are the reasons nobody likes you.

This is now the home of all conversations related to todays events.
Any threads derailed by discussions relating to Scojo, planetoid or the temporary bans will be locked if further discussion continues along those lines.

No further bans will be enacted and a general rules thred will eventually materialise somewhere at some point when I'm not seemingly working my weekend.

Stop shitting up this forum with drama and discuss something nice.
Like kittens.

This thread is for reporting data issues with the 2000AD Online Vault. You can also post additions here, for things that need adding.

Please inclue the URL of where you saw the issue, and describe the issue as it appears, and how you expect it to appear.

Example:

http://www.2000adonline.com/vault/megs/203
In Meg 722, the story "Judge Dredd: Supergalactic Superstar" says its episode 3, and has the writer listed as "Johnny Saveloy".
This should be episode 1337, with the writer as "Ronald MacDonald".

I'll try to spend some time fixing these, but again I expect there to be a lot of issues and I've only got so much time to spare.

With a new respectable front page and the index back up, we can expect some teething problems and future updated to be needed.

Please report any issues (inaccuracies, additions) with the vaults data in the "2000 AD Online - Vault Database Issues" thread.

Known Issues

Firstly here's some stuff that is implemented but doesn't work right.

  • Some of the data isn't entirely correct. Unfortunately these issues are the least likely to get fixed as there are so many, and don't affect the sites functionality.
  • Clicking on "Interrogation" links doesn't take you anywhere. They lack an associated series, thus appear broken.
  • Clicking one a letter in the progs or megs view, to filter the progs and megs by title, reduces the list to zero results. This is because the data (titles) does not exist currently.
  • List of Character and Series appearances inside stories is extremely limited. More data needed.

Missing Features

Next up is all the stuff I can think of off the top of my head that needs to be done at some point, but currently hasn't even been looked at.

  • Graphic Novels and other Reprints data and their associated pages are non-existant
  • Series View doesn't list creators of that series
  • Series View doesn't list appearances of the Series on Covers
  • Series View doesn't list appearances of the Series in stories
  • Text items, such as interrogations and reviews, can't be viewed or have had their links broken and are disassociated with their relevant prints.
  • Reducing all the lists from showing every result to showing, say, 10 results, with a "more" link to view the entire list.
  • Creators View doesn't show the Series they've created, when credited for a series.
  • Next and Previous buttons on a Prog and Meg View pages

So yes, lots to do, a lot of data still to convert. If you think you've come across an original issue with the site, feel free to post about it and I'll see what I can do.

A cautionary footnote to the Brian Bolland tutorials ... clearly they work just fine for Bolland, but almost no sane person working in comics today would replicate that channel-based workflow for colouring ... it's what Layers were invented for.

This forum is for all you creative types to exchange ideas, post your works, how-to guides, ask about things you want to learn, and generally create cool stuff.

These rules augment and modify the general 2000AD Forum Rules.

Critique Rules

This is fairly new board so don't be suprised if it takes a while for anything you post to get a response.

If you ask for feedback, you better be ready to get both positive and negative comments. Don't start crying your eyes out because your work isn't accepted as a masterpiece from day one.

With that in mind, if you're giving feedback, you should be trying your damnedest to make it constructive crtisism. Negative feedback which is just abrasive will get you thrown out pretty sharpish.
That said, we aren't the gestapo, so as long as you're not just being a jerk you should be fine.

Writing

Be aware that anything you post here will become public and free for anyone else to read or edit, or build on.
It would be unwise to post lengthy excerpts from your big novel idea before it's published as someone else could publish something similar and theres nothing you can do about it.
Additionally, posting "this is my work and nobody else can use it or anything like it" does not make it so.

Images

Don't post images wider than 800 pixels. You can attach multiple images to your posts, so there's really no excuse for breaking this rule.
Most good image hosts also allow you to post thumbnails, so take advantage of that feature.

Don't Plagerise

If you steal someone elses work outright then there's a high probability you'll be found out, so please spare us the drama. If you need to steal someone elses work for you to feel an ounce of self-worth on a no-name forum on the internet, you need more help than we can offer.

This doesn't include things like tracing, script re-use, recolouring, or building on someone elses work if you have a cool idea, it just means don't rip some Judge Dredd art of Google Image Search and post it as your own.

Business and Money

Please don't hire, lease, sell or buy stuff in this forum. You've got the classifieds forum for that if people are really interested in your work.

Further to that, this is not a recruiting zone endorsed by 2000 AD or Rebellion. Posting your work here does not qualify as a submission to 2000 AD, although you can find details of how best to do that on the 2000 AD Submissions page.

Final Word

If you think someone is breaching a rule, report it and we'll get around to it, don't wreck up their thread.

If you think your post might be mistaken for breaching any of the above rules, either clear it with an mod first via PM, or just PM a mod and hope you don't get squashed by another mod. We're not terribly organised.

As with all forums, the moderator or admins word is final, and we enforce the spirit of the rule, not the wording - so don't try to weasel around the edges.

This thread is for feature requests only.
Bug reports belong in the Bug Reports and Issues thread

Before you post

Please don't just put any idea that pops into your head in this thread.
If you have a great idea for this forum, create another thread in this subforum and post your idea there. This will give other forum members a chance to make comments and suggestions of their own, letting the idea be refined from a lump of coal into a shining diamond.

Once you have a thread backing up your wonderful idea, post a copy of the idea in here, and link to the thread discussing the idea.
