I really didn't like TNG, or it's spin-offs*, but I loved Discovery and I love Patrick Stewart.

This new show will work for me if it's like Discovery, but a bit further into the future.

*First Contact was good, though.

Really liked it. Marvel just keep cranking out the 4/5 movies, their formula shows no signs of failing.

"Superhero fatigue" is something you think you get if you watch more than 6 minutes of Batman vs Superman, then realise isn't a thing as soon as the next offering from the House of Spidey comes swinging around.

That is one impressive cover.

Books & Comics / Re: Requiem vampire knight

I quite like Requiem, especially the early ones.

Volume 12 (and the subsequent Panini collection of 11 and 12) aren't expected until next year.

Mills tends to write stuff he can spin out for ever and ever, so I'd be quite surprised if this has a finite running length.

Loves the whole series. The Klingon war resolved the way it had to resolve.
The Federation weren't about to start genocidally wiping out planets. Burnham had to get pardoned, as otherwise without Lorca's protection she was heading straight back to the glasshouse.
The highlight for me was Michelle Yeoh. She was a bit meh as the good Phillipa, but totally amazing as her own evil duplicate.
So pleased she survived the episode.
The end of season cliffhanger.
Not really a cliffhanger, more a semi-promise that Spock is going to be in season 2.
I liked it.

Oh yeah, and
BRING BACK LORCA!
Books & Comics / Re: The PARAGON comic thread

I feel your pain, Davey.

One of the big reasons why we decided to call it a day on Massacre For Boys was that it was obvious that interest was tailing off. Was hard to tell if the problem was specific to our comic or a wider decline in audience for the small press, but I strongly suspect the root cause was a little of both.

Personally, I felt the quality of our last issue was the highest ever, but that virtually no one was prepared to read it any more.

I wish you better luck with Paragon, which has been a major player for years and years now and has a really strong roster of talent.

Film & TV / Re: Doctor Who (13th Doctor)

I didn't mind it, I have only two complaints.

1) It wasn't as good as Day of the Doctor.
2) It was another missed opportunity to bring Paul McGann back (actually several missed opportunities).

Genuine question- was Moffat's stint on Dr. Who generally perceived to be sexist?

I fear that this has become accepted wisdom, and this has led to somewhat ridiculous assertions, such as that a scene that Moffat didn't write or have any control over - a scene that shows The Doctor regenerate into a woman, by the way, after years of Moffat patiently building up to it - is conclusive evidence that Moffat is a misogynistic bastard.

My view is that he's not sexist, but that he did fail as a showrunner to write to the consistently high standard he set for himself during the RTD era.

Surprised no-one moan about
Klingon Porn
!

That was the best thing in the episode. And it had lots of good things in it!

Going to be a looooooooooooong, hard wait until the series comes back after Christmas.

Film & TV / Re: Red Dwarf XII

I did watch and moderately enjoyed Captain Butler. Seem to recall Robert Llewellyn guest-starred as an admiral. Craig Charles was also awesome in Takeshi's Castle and Robot Wars, although latterly, inexplicably  replaced by white men.

Red Dwarf I and II are by far my favourite. I'd probably go for X next, that was pretty strong.

Roll on XIII, and - I guess - the live show.

Saw the series XII finale yesterday on catchup.
It's got Holly in it. And Captain Hollister.
Pretty strong, really. I just hope to goodness this isn't the last ever episode.
A bit too much like the way Peep Show finished - which I hated - for my taste.
I think if we can live with constantly reprinted coloured version of V for Vendetta we can live with "new" coloured Halo Jones.

That is a good point. Will be interesting to see how Gibson reacts to this announcement.* If he's okay with the new colouring then basically I have to concede there's no problem.

Had forgotten, until ebay reminded me, that there was a Quality Comics version, so it has already been done once before. Although that was apparently terrible.

*I presume Moore won't react at all.

However, as always I actually take the Raymond Chandler position on adaptations: the originals are still on my shelf. And if colorised work draws in a new reader, or gives added pleasure to an old one, great.

The accusation of elitism did sting a bit, so perhaps you have a point on this.

Your point is still bollocks and I'm disappointed but unsurprised that you've chosen to double down on the stupidity and elitism rather than just step back, take a deep breath, and acnowledge that "artistic vandalism" is a ludicrous way to describe this.

Same old abusive nonsense, although at least you haven't demanded an apology yet.

Rebellion, like DC are a business and as such will try to exploit their properties in ways they believe have value (commercial that is).

True enough, and it must be somewhat difficult to keep endlessly rehashing the same four Alan Moore books so as to keep the income stream alive. Personally I believe the better option would have been to give Moore & Gibson the rights to Halo and let them finish it. But that ship has sailed.

it's a book you don't have to buy that has zero effect on the original version.

And you could say the exact same thing about Before Watchmen.
