A great side-effect of the realtime thing is that when Dredd sends someone away for 10, 20, 30 years, we have the chance of a sequel when they get out - I wonder if any Dredd writers have trawled their back progs and added a list of perp release dates to their calendar - so that anytime in the next few decades they'll get a pop-up to say so-and-so is due for release next month - instant story idea generator!

I want to do that now!  [/geek]

Though now I'm wondering - does life mean life (and ten years mean ten years) in the iso-cube, or can people be released early on parole?  Can't remember if it's ever come up...

I for one want to know more about this top trumps set - what other characteristics were in it?

Yes!  It worked!  (and so did the subtitles)  Not knowing the format - does this mean that
there's no point watching Friday's episode?  I won't be able to watch tomorrow's episode as I have a prior engagement
Right. Has everyone remembered to set their series link before they go to bed? Remember for the following four nights YOU can come home to the Buttonman. Please keep your trousers on at all times - I'll see!

And I was going to wear a kilt (though actually I'm not in iPlayer land either).

Having said that - I wonder if I can view it on work computers (during breaks, obviously).

Mind Wars reprint - I believe it's next month - looking forward to it getting a wider readership.  I thought Starlord SD was better than the first 2000AD SD story, though obviously the strip has gone on to greater things.

Sensible, centrist, fully transparent think tank beloved of impartial BBC political editors The Adam Smith Institute has a solution to Britain's housing crisis, you guys - and unsurprisingly, it's a doozy.

This reply was good:
QuoteYou know, the more I read this organisation's content (blog posts, research reports, policy recommendations), the more I become utterly convinced that you must all live in some strange, cloistered, unhealthy place so far removed from reality and other, normal, people that rubbish like this seems sensible. There is no better case for democratic socialism that spending an hour or two reading this ridiculous waffle. What are you thinking? What is going on in your little heads? Do you ever hear yourselves?

p.s. I certainly remember knowing in the mid-eighties that Dredd was based 122 years in the future, and that the years in Strontium Dog also increased in line with our own (unfortunately it appears that Grant and/or Wagner forgot all about that later as it went right out of the window).

Cellular senescence, leading to an accumulation of changes in a human being over time, encompassing physical, psychological, and social changes :-P

They're making a Venus Bluegenes movie too?  Brilliant!
Was that in response to the comment about lead characters spending the film topless?

I think if he was wearing a gilet that would look ok.

Overall I am not sure that many changes to the uniform are needed. He has fairly regulation army  trousers, boots and helmet (biochip slot apart) anyway, so he looks pretty much like the soldiers in a load of war films. Apart from being blue, which is  the one thing I assume they won't change given Jason Kingsley's comments about that being a red line.

Blue characters would never work in a film - just look at Avatar, The Smurfs (and Smurfs 2), Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men...

He was only ever called Cal in the strip.

The real Caligula went completely nuts, possibly the result of lead poisoning since all the pipes were made of lead.

We don't even know if he really was a madman.  The whole idea of insanity and sexual perversion was a common trope at the time when muddying the name of unpopular politicians.

Pretty sure I've heard that about Nero (and King Herod isn't quite as bad as the Bible says - just got a bad rap from that "killing all the babies" thing).

That's very cool news. At least now this thread can be more than:

"Any news yet?"

"No, sorry"

"Damn that means its not happening"

"No they said it's be a while cool ya boots"

Rince, wash, repeat.

We have the Rogue thread for that now....

Cool - I look forward to the next news in 14 months time! ;-)

Seriously though - I know how long it can take for films and TV to be made, and better to take time than rush something out.

So, the decks are being cleared in the JDM for Meg 400.  Any word on what's going to start in 400 (other than Storm Warning)?
