Prog / Re: Prog 2381: A grizzly fate

I'm also disappointment in the end of Dredd. Seems strange to follow up the death of Maitland with a story that introduces and kills off another female character. Two if you count their guide!

Having said that, I really enjoyed this story up until the end. The art has been phenomenal and I hope we see more of Guero soon. The page with him digging the pit ending with the line "You dig a mean grave" is great.

Brink is great as ever. Abnett's use of dialogue to build tension and intrigue is so good. To quote the quote quoted by Le Fink above "We're close, I know all his codes".

Does the Another Dawn graphic novel cover everything up until now? I get the feeling it doesn't.

I was the same when jumped in at "the shadow chancellor" then when it was collected with "another dawn" I got the digital version and everything made much more sense and now it's a story I look forward to when it's on a run.
I'm currently at the same "lost" feeling with Brink!! I will get round to reading it as a continuous run and see if it all clicks

I have no problem with Brink. I read all the previous books before getting back into the weekly prog.
And it was a big reason for me returning to 2000AD too.I highly recommend reading back from book 1.

I was actually a bit worried I wouldnt enjoy this series as much as it'll be the first Brink I read in weekly chunks.

So far so good though.

Looks like I'll just have to remain confused for now. Jake Lynch's art is fantastic on this so still plenty to enjoy.

While it's true that whatever a person takes from a work of art is valid, its still hard not to feel annoyed when people misinterpret the intention of the authors in some cases.
The obvious one is how some people interpret Dredd as a template for how policing should be done rather than a satire.

I have Kill or be killed digitally here but have never read it. Just had a quick flick through and the Spiderman connection looks obvious to me...because I've just read your write up. If I just went into it cold I would probably not have made the connection at all.

I much prefer Murray's cover too. Dredd's bike looks tiny on Bisleys.

Terrible that Ian's family have to go through that at such a difficult time.

Quote from: Dash Decent on 19 April, 2024, 09:21:33 AMThere's something about that 'young' Anderson that reminds me of the 'why can't they all be nice "2000AD, It's not for girls" advert.
Wow! I just looked it up and you're right. Never seen that before. Very 90's.

Judge Anderson in 2127 (aged about 50):

Anderson's daughter in 2145 (18 years later):

The only thing that baffles me is that we never saw the story in which Anderson gives birth (or conceives a daughter through other means). Her daughter looks like she just graduated from the academy, so there's some missing tale left to be told.

Intriguing!

Ander-daughter!!!

Rouge Trooper

Rogue attempts to conceal his blue skin with makeup so he can infiltrate enemy base unnoticed.

Unfortunately pun does not work as majority of readers do not realize the misspelling of Rogues name.

Kids generally want something that's new for there own generation. Isn't that what attracted youngsters to 2000AD and Action back when they came out? They were kicking against the the previous generations stuffy old comics. Or at least that's the narrative as told by Pat Mills and others involved at the time.

With first hand experience of that, why would Pat Mills now think that kids would want to revert back to the older style.

Spacewarp looks like it would have far more appeal to old folk who don't get on with modern comics, are big Pat Mill's fans and are nostalgic for early 2000AD. Not many 10 year olds would fit in this category.

It's like trying to convince your kids that they should be listening to your Jethro Tull records instead of that K-pop noise.
