New Comic Book Day Megathread

Im starting Animal Man as of this month, but that's purely from a Swamp Thing completist point of view rather than any particular love of the animal man character. He turns up in swampy #11 and my question is, does swampy appear at all in animal man #11, even in a single panel?

Can't remember if he turns up but I think he might do, or he's at least referenced. It's definitely a "we have to go meet Swamp Thing" ending anyway!

I am a month behind as I wait for the digitals to go down in price, so I'm only up to issue 10 in Animal Man and Swamp Thing, so I'm unaware if Swampy makes an appearance yet. (He has been forecast for some time.) I didn't even know that Animal Man appeared in Swamp Thing #11.

[spoiler]There was short scene with Constantine and his group last issue of Animal Man. (Justice League Dark, I assume. Incidentally, I much prefer Zatannas old outfit, cheesy though it is. Girls in hats are cute for one thing.) Not to spoil anything much, but there was a prophetic utterance from the other female character concerning someone else AM's family need to meet who isn't Swamp Thing, suggesting that meeting will be a little while yet. I guess the events of the two comics aren't quite concurrent.[/spoiler]

Oh, and much as I'm enjoying Animal Man I wish Buddy would put on a shirt.

Some of them seem like they will be a really good idea, some not so much so. So ending Resurrection Man (if it has to) revealing his origin good, some of them seem unnecessary, so All Star Western bad. But we'll wait and see what they do with them I guess.

At this point I'm only reading Legion of Super-Heroes, Legion Lost, The Shade, and Resurrection Man. And with Resurrection Man cancelled, and The Shade ending things are looking kinda thin on the New 52 front for me right now. I don't suspect Legion Lost to survive the year either.

The #0s are an interesting idea, but they aren't really energizing me to read anything new.

EVERYBODY LOVES TANK GIRL #1 - Still my guiltiest of pleasure. Interesting to see Jim Mahfood on art duties. When Rufus Dayglo left I was saddened, such an incredible artist. Mick McMahon was NOT a good fit. But, Mahfood? That might work.
20TH CENTURY BOYS GN VOL 21 - Still one of the most incredible comic series I've ever read.
NEAR DEATH #10 - My last issue. Just... not working for me. BUT I'm giving Point of Impact a shot, so I don't feel so bad.
PROPHET #27 - Yup. Its Prophet.
RESIDENT ALIEN #3 - Really good series if you're looking for something different. Sort of glad its a limited series, but I really want to read more.
SPACEMAN #8 - This series has slowly lost my intrest. Gonna finish it off, but if there's a follow up, I'm out.
THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS #5 - Oooh this series. How I love you. Let me count the ways.
THE NEW DEADWARDIANS #5 - Both kinda drawn out, and totally cool at the same time. Another really different series. With rather pretty artwork.

I kinda agree with you there but do wonder whether that's to do with its monthly (or less so some times) nature. I'm looking forward to giving it a re-read in one go and thus not having to jump-start my 'future-speak' motor each month when I pick it up. Maybe once I get into the language and get some momentum behind me I suspect it'll be a very satisfying read?

As far I can remember, Brian Azzarello mentioned he offered Eduardo Risso a choice of projects to work on - he chose the science fiction one - Spaceman. There may be a sequel or they may choose to work on one of the other ones.

I'm not enjoying Spaceman. Risso's art is lovely as always but the story is very much lacking. I like the central character and I like the concept, I just don't think Azzarello pulled it all together in good enough fashion.

Only picked up last week's today - Millar and Gibbons' Secret Service was the only thing for me (Phoneix and Adventure Time for the kids).  The first slightly disappointing issue of Secret Service tbh.  Found Millar's diary from his trip to Manilla at the end of the issue more interesting.  Pretty sure Hickman's Secret was due last week, looks like it has missed a month 

Tomorrow I have:

Manhattan Projects # 5 - last issue was one of the best IMO but still not sure where this series is heading.

The New Deadwardians # 5 - bit up and down this series - needs to pick up a bit.

Prophet # 27 - best title available at the minute.

Resident Alien # 3 - OK this title, tailed off a bit so am expecting big finale

I'm not sure if I'd go THAT far, but its definitely Top 5 material. Perhaps even #2.

Forgot to mention the final issue of Secret History of DB Cooper. Not sure if there were distribution problems as I had to order all issues online seperate from my local FP. I was thinking of selling the collection as it didn't get me that excited over the previous 4 issues, but issue 5 brought the story to a good end. The art by Churilla was great throughout.

Stevie's just returned from the Adelaide Comics centre with a whole two band new progs tucked under his arm woo hoo!

Dig this crazy jive – invoice read Progs 1782 & 1786. The latter being our backorder for our no show back on 12 July.
When the boxes were unpacked however the second prog had in fact been magicked into Prog 1783. Which  is still yet to appear on any Diamond Shipping Forecast.

That's some real quantum juju going down there & no mistake.
