Don't be intimidated by all the DLC for it, you don't need it but some of it like Way of Life do add some cool features.
Having just failed a few times at a pain-in-the-ass FPS mission, I begin to appreciate the joy of a nice mellow game, one where you can just explore a bit, or it's fun puzzles, or there's nothing much to worry about.
Oddly, I hear good things about "Euro Truck Simulator 2" in this regard, and I have it as part of a HumbleBundle from ages ago, but can anyone recommend a good mellow game? Perhaps one of the "Civilization" or "Sim City" games on the easiest setting?
Quote from: Mardroid on 28 June, 2015, 10:11:36 AMwhat spec is your pc?
After a long download I started playing the first game yesterday.
I have not got very far yet but the mechanics seem okay. It was a bit weird to start with as some of the controls were not set so I could only move back and forth and strafe sideways but couldn't seem to look around. (Weirdly when I played it again briefly this morning I found the mouse pad allowed all that which is much more intuitive, but I don't think it did that yesterday. I spent a while setting specific keys.)
But it seems okay now, although I wil probably change a few things to make it more comfortable.
I downloaded the sequels overnight. Decided to try them this morning (just to ensure they work, I don't plan on playing them until I finish the first game, or at least make good headway). After ages doing Visual C++ confiuration on Bioshock 2 I get the message "Your video is lower spec than required." (Or words to that effect.) They still gave me the option of continuing, but I thought it best not to. I doubt anything would be damaged, it would probably just crash or run very slowly and look terrible, but anyway.
If Bioshock 2 is above spec, then I guess Infinite will definitely be.
Still, £7.99 is still good for just BioShock, when you consider it's over £13 through Steam directly (although I could probably buy it on disk for less nowadays, particularly if I want to go the second hand but even so. Benefits, a charity this way too...) And I've got the other games if I ever fork out for a gaming PC. (I'm not sure I'd do that though. The hardware is so expensive, although if you do a lot of gaming - which I don't - it might prove cheaper in the long run.)
I was sure my laptop would manage them all though. It's not that old, and didn't even Infinite come out a couple of years back?
This venture illustrates what I like about console gaming - if it's for your console it should work. Although they tend to cost more than the PC equivalent. And you don't get the cracking Steam deals. At least, in this case, my mistake did not prove too costly. And I've got one (hopefully great) game to play.

When money's tight, you sure can't beat a console you have to upgrade every six months and which might not run your games anyway.

20 years later.... in alternative universe where the aliens have won and we are living under their rule.

Got Sunless Sea in the sale as well. Very enjoyable weirdness!
Very atmospheric, but I always screw it up every time not very long into the game lose my boat. Interesting story that reminds me of the works of H.P. Lovecraft with a story that gets mosre interesting the deeper I get into the game.
For those that like Game of Thrones combined withX-Com. Then Massive Chalice is for you. Stylised graphics that seem like the regular quasi-medieval settings at first, then they get stranger when you realise that your vanguard of Hunters, Alchemists and Caber-Smashers defending your kingdom by entering the Massive-Chalice that is also treated as some male & female deity. Yet, sometimes I got the impression I was looking at some giant privy overflowing with what ever or some Time-Lake featured in a well known property of 2000AD.
I 'm on third game and this time playing at lowest difficulty at Medium. The first two attempts with disasterous results. Your kingdom sinks section by section as the mysterious Cadence. Rythm dancing monsters that has wondering what ever happened to the regular crew of rural banditry, wolves, bears, and goblins that I was used to. Yet the animations are very charming.
Worth playing is you like those two genres' mixed together....
Quote from: Keef Monkey on 16 June, 2015, 10:02:26 AMThat's cheaper than the steam sale but I guess console owners will have to continue to pay their Live and Plus subscriptions if they want to play it.
I probably wouldn't be able to figure out the levers!
This has gone early access on Xbox One now - https://store.xbox.com/en-GB/Xbox-One/Games/Elite-Dangerous-Game-Preview/5d1a6afe-0a59-4121-b23d-aefa0915c90c
Early access isn't something I've ever been fussed about and have no interest at all in playing a game before it's finished (do enough of that as it is!) but the fact they're selling it at a discounted rate for people who buy it early access means it'd be silly not to really. Reckon I'll make the purchase and then sit on it until full release!
Quote from: Goaty on 12 June, 2015, 07:16:48 PMNot as good as Homeworld, Child of Light and Wasteland 2
I notice Wolfenstein: The New Order is on Steam sale for £9, is it good game? As I got Wolfenstein few years ago and didn't finish play it. Find it bit dull late into the game.

Oh christ....The Steam summer sale is nearly here.
Quote from: Keef Monkey on 09 June, 2015, 10:50:13 AMThis makes no sense, you can't roleplay an unemployed Picard with a gamepad
holding out for a console version.
