The opening pages from The House of Daemon by Jose Ortiz is the first grail page pick by Jim Campbell. The reproduction in the Hibernia comics collection is superb.

Andrew Stringer joins the book club to introduce me to DC Thomson's rough, tough action comic from the 1970s. And we discuss why Bullet managed to dodge the intense media scrutiny that Action attracted.

Red Dagger: The Blitz Kid - not saying it's a swipe, but interestingly similar to Prog 19 (the first of Bolland's Supercovers):

I enjoyed that podcast a lot. One thing that flagged up for me was the dissing of the Blade Runner voice-over, which resonated with me. Years ago, probably in Empire, I remember reading the thinking behind removing it (for the first Director's Cut). It's just that it had been plastered on there by the studio because in test screenings people had complained of being confused. Most of it is objectively unnecessary because it's just saying what we can already see happening.

I suppose my point is that we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water - there are plenty of great uses of voice-over, and even an interesting Gruniad article.

I wonder if the VO in the Sandman series' first episode is aimed at introducing the character so that when he shows up in flesh and blood (?) he's less of a stranger. Thanks for the thought-provoking podcast.
