You could argue that Necropolis was the end of the original Dredd Golden age, the end of an era as old classic Dredd stumbled - we went through a period of change and when Wagner came back to the Prog to return the series to the heights of its powers it was a different beast. I would certainly argue that Tour of Duty is the pinnacle of Modern Dredd. A story that has a bit of everything which has made that new era of Dredd what it is at its very best, while retaining an absolute cohesion as a single story. All that matters now however is which you prefer...

Necropolis literally means 'city of the dead', but could it also mean 'zombified police?' Either way, it's better than ToD.
Kind of outrageous to have this epic ranked higher than Dead Man, mind!

It already feels like I'm backing the losing horse, but it's Tour of Duty for me.
Necropolis for Ezquerra and a great big dose of epic Dark Judges. And nostalgia.
But Tour of Duty is friggin awesome.
Ah, I quite liked Tour of Duty, but I gotta choose Necropolis. All the way.

Both great, but Tour of Duty is ultimately more of a polished story and less reliant on vaudevillian camp.

I have to vote for Tour of Duty. Why? Because since I voted for Necropolis in am earlier round I've been weighed down with guilt. The 20 year old me just didnt like it very much, and the 40-however old I was- me *did* like ToD very much. So I'm being "true to myself" in this round, despite warming to Nekky a lot over the years and not having reread ToD as much as I should have.

Colin, it would be nice if we could see a list of all who voted and for whom, in case an error is made in counting voices. Just a friendly suggestion :)

Well you can look down the thread to see who voted for what. I've not got time to do that alas, would be very interesting.
As it is I do I will make a mistake from time to time but when things are close I double and triple check so hopefully even if the vote count on my spreadsheet is wrong it won't affect (effect I never know which to use) the actual result.

Come up against Apocalypse War in the final to be declared Best Dredd Epic ever and the vastly superior to them all Tour of Duty has to slum it for 3rd place against Judge Child... they'd both probably lose against City of the Damned the way you folks vote anyway!
