Spinnies noms...

Best writer: John Smith. Really did a lot of the heavy lifting for a prog which had seen better days. Firekind - Slaughterbowl - Tyranny Rex - each of those were the highlights of the progs they appeared in and then we also get the best 2000Ad Dredd of the year: Roadkill - even if Dredd is a bit much in the ending.

Best art: Glenn Fabry. Stunning, just stunning art combined with great storytelling.

Best story: Firekind

And I know these aren't Spinnies awards but:

Strangest editorial decision: asking Fabry to commit to a multi-book, fully painted epic (Whilst he's working on Vertigo covers, whilst he's committed to Dredd/Batman) was never going to end well. Had they got him on some shorter Slaine tales - such as the Swan children - then we'd have had a real highpoint of the prog to rival the Horned God.

Missed opportunity: So this is how the mighty Ron Smith sees out his days at the prog: some of the lesser Dredd tales and a handful of Future Shocks. Ron deserved better than this. It would have been great to see him really deliver on something like Slaughterbowl or Mechanismo part 3.

Best year: 1986

Meggies
Best writer: Alan Grant or John Wagner
Best art: John Hicklenton
Best story: Anderson or Taxidermist

Colin YNWA

My spinnies nominations:

2000ad

Best writing:

1.   John Smith
2.   John Smith
3.   John Smith
HM – John Smith

Its pretty easy this year!

Best Art

I'm tempted to go Rian Hughes as I really get on with his style and love the work he did, even if some of the strips aren't the best. I'm tempted by Shaky Kane, but did he do enough in the year? In the end I'm going with Nigel Dobbyn in the main 'cos I don't think he gets the credit he deserves.

Best Thrill

If Tyranny Rex had more momentum behind it that would feature more in my thoughts. Revere is also up there. In the end though I'm going for a first and second only.

2nd Kano – it gets a hard time, but I think its brilliant
1st Well its Firekind isn't it. All sorts or superb.

Best month

I'll go April as when you have Kano and Firekind who cares about the rest... except April has the best of the rest so I guess I do!

Best Year

This is going to stay 1986 until 1999 so I don't know why I do this!

Megazine

Best Writer

Predictably its John Wagner for Mechanismo, Taxidermist and other bits and pieces.

Best Art – Frank Quietly for landing with such a BANG!

Best Thrill – hard to look past The Taxidermist isn't it

Richard S.

I keep doing this - providing the list of nominees and then not actually getting around to saying what I like myself.

In case I don't get around to it (and I did have a scan but there are so many hard decisions) I'm going to nominate Ron Smith for lifetime achievement / whatever that best thing* award is.  While the last five years didn't treat Ron with much to work with, the quality that was put in to it never faltered.  Imagine the painted style of Fr1day on Wagner / Grant Dredd!
